I was wondering if anyone here has or knows anyone with one of these, and how good they really are? I was out for my walk this AM and stopped in my local Wal-Mart. I was surprised to see 4 of these things (60 GB version, priced at $659 Cdn) sitting in the locked display case in the store (NOT empty boxes), I thought they were impossible to get LOL! The clerk told me they originally had 10 and there hasn't even been a big demand for them, I think everyone assumed there weren't any around. If anything else, I thought they would be good as a relatively cheap Blu-Ray player, as other Blu-ray players are pusshing $1000.

I have a friend who got a PS3 about a week ago. He loves it. The first game he got was Resistance: Fall of Man, which is one of the most critically acclaimed and highest rated shooters of all time. I haven't been to his house in a while. I really need to pay him a visit =P
I thought Half Life 2 was the best shooter of all time? ;)

Most console shooters cannot compare to PC shooters. Compare Halo 2 with halflife 2. There isn't any comparison.
Except for the Xbox360 shooters that just came out whose logo includes a red circle encompassion a skull, can't remember what game it was though.
I think that's a bit of an exaggeration about Resistance: Fall of Man as one of the higest rated and acclaimed of all time. What i've read about it is that it's a good game, and the best game available for the PS3, but that's a far cry from "one of the best shooters ever". I think once Rainbow Six: Vegas comes out for the PS3, that will be its best shooter. (its already available for the Xbox 360 and I think that's currently the best shooter available).
Anyway, I would recommend to anyone that they get an xbox 360 over a PS3. Microsoft is really aiming at creating a great sysem for gamers and those looking for a complete multi-media system as well. I have yet to see any compelling reason to get a PS3. I have a 360 and I love it and use it all the time.
The PS3 looks really nice. Very powerful, looks like it has a good selection of games coming in the future. But it's $500 or 600! I think that's kind of extreme. The Nintendo Wii's $250 price point is a lot more reasonable. I just think $500-600 is way too much to spend on a game console. I'm probably going to buy the Nintendo Wii when the price drops (which will be quite a while from now), but I don't think the PS3's price is going to drop enough for me.
Just my two cents.
I plan to hold off for now. I was just kind of surprised to see that many in stock, the temptation at the time to buy was high but I realized that is not really money I want to spend right now, and generally, if a person waits, the price is going to fall anyway. And the XBox 360 is quite a bit cheaper.

Personally i wouldn't spend a dime on the system or the
games until a year from now when Sony proves to me the system
will still be around. I've had too many orphan computers over the years.
