Today was only the second time in my life I've worn one and the first time I've ever worn a french braid in public. A friend and I went in a crowded Starbucks and I noticed a few glances. It was a pretty young crowd in there and one of the employees had very cool blond dreads so I probably didn't stand out as much as I would have other places. I couldn't care less, of course. I highly doubt I'll ever master the technique to french braid my own hair though.
It looks great! And yeah id have trouble doing that braid to someones hair, let alone my own! lol. I think braids look great. My hair's not long enough to do one yet but I'm getting there! But yeah, your hair looks great, and keep it growing!

Looks handsome Jason!
I think the French braid looks great - wear it with with pride!

That looks really good, especially since your hair is so dense, however, it does look like an incredible amount of work.
Looking superb there Jason. That must have taken a LOT of technique to do, the manual dexterity required is way beyond any ability I would have even if I had the hair to do it! Your braiding skills never fail to amaze me, beats a boring old ponytail any day. Did you actually do that yourself, or a friend help you? I see you actually got some SNOW in Massechusetts, we finally got a trace here in Halifax last night.
Keep it growing,
David
cool
it looks very hard to do by yourself
a.
SPECTACULAR! Now I'm jealous..........I can't do that one. :-0
My best to you Jason for a wonderful New Year.
Justin~
The only thing cooler than the braid is your self-confidence to wear it in public. Awesome!

Those pics are really sweet, Jason! It's good to hear that you went out in public with that style and didn't really give a damn what others thought. It just shows that you're strong-willed and very positive about yourself. Have a great new year! =)

Very cool. Starbucks is a great place too.
Jason,
Your French Briad looks great. My best friend is a 55 year old man with shoulder length pre-maturely gray hair. I wish he would let me post a picture but he is too private. He almost never wears his hair down in public. He is active, and for safety wears a tail, double or tripled banded, or sometimges tied twice, and then on the third tie not bringing all the hair through which creates a loose knot on the back of his head. He would never use a band with mental in it, and the continuous cloth ones are very inexpensive at the grocery or drug store. His hair has been growing a little more than two years, and now that it is getting longer his wife has been french braiding it, and he tells me that he gets no unusual looks in public. He also wears a moustache.
He had to spend an overnight recently in a hospital for some tests, which fortunately told him he would live another few years. He said one morning an older nursing assistant came into his room and said, "Are you the same lady who was in this room yesterday?' He said, "No I am the lady with the moustasche."
I have been wearing a silver, celtic clasp which I put in upside down, in pony tail position, and then fold it up, making my tail come down over the outside of the clasp. This creates a sort of curly ball at the back of the head. I never get bad feedback -- only good.
We are experiencing a slow but sure cultural evolution in which we are the vangard showing the way. Many men want what we have dared, and the more we can relax and go with it, the more fun we can have. Hair is natural, and it is also potentially erotic.
The way we wear our hair will not attract everyone, but it will attract those who affirm the way we wear our hair, so this is a win:win situation.
As a social scientist, I would also hazard some personality and ethical correlates of men with natural hair -- but it is too late for that tonight.

Hi Jason,
it's great you wore this phantastic style in public! It is neat, very presentable, and reflective of a man with a strong identity. It's certainly one of your many hair options.
Have a great 2007, and CU!

Hi Jason and a Happy New Year to you and another year of uninterruped hair growth!Your pics always are so stunning with the hair styles you display and the very cool back drops you use.Mostly outdoors with beautiful scenery. Its great that you don't mind going out in public with whatever style you choose but certainly you would get no grief at a Starbucks!LOL.I've never been adventurous enough to try braided or bunned hair mainly because I don't know how to do it so I stick with ponies or just loose hair(Indoors only on the loose!LOL).I havn't gotten a trim since Aug.'05 and am wondering if I'm at terminal as it seems I can't get past waist length.Reagardless you have great hair and I like how you experiment with styles.Mark
man,you reek of awesomness...I can only hope to learn how to do a regular braid...let alone a "french" one..:P.like mouse said, the only thing better than that braid is your self-confidence!happy new year!!:)
I should have made it clearer that I didn't do that french braid on myself. A female friend did it for me before we went out for the afternoon.
I really want to learn it but it just seems so much more difficult than the regular English 3-strand braid. Maybe next time I see her I can ask my friend to show me rather than just do it herself.
So I kept the braid in for awhile when I went out last night. Towards the end of the evening I just took the tie off so then it slowly began to loosen. It was a really cool effect as it gradually unraveled. It left my hair with extra body, shine and smoothness. As I was at the bar getting drinks for a group, I noticed this woman looking intently at me. I finally turned to her and she said 'do you mind if I stare at you?' LOL. That's a line I hadn't heard before. I told her in a friendly way that she wasn't really staring but then she said 'oh, yes I am'! Who knows, maybe it was the different looking hair that attracted her. Too bad she wasn't really my type. :(
Neat look! I wonder how it looked from the front and the side? Sorry if I missed that pic, I'm still reading through the posts and haven't checked your blog yet.
Braids are quite nice, though I also cannot do them myself (well, not any decent ones, and never tried a French braid before). It's a pretty bold move, as I see very few people (men or women) wearing a French braid, but I think it looks good.
My Blog
I think that is a good look and certainly uncommon. As well the scenery in the backgrounds is beautiful; New England is so pretty even in winter. I imagine any glances you received were more envy than anything else. I have known people who could do their own French braids perfectly; however, I imagine they practiced many times before it looked good.
It's always fun to see what new and different things you can do with your hair. It's a nice-looking French braid, although I must admit I've never been a fan of them (on men OR women). In my opinion, you should stick with the straight braid, which looks great on you.
And keep the update pics coming - you're definitely the best-documented long hair I've seen. It's fun to see the progress over the months and years.
I have to admit I'm not a big fan of the look of that particular hairstyle, whether worn by either a male or a female. Sorry.
Jason,
Sooner or later, she will be your type. Don't blow it. Just say, "Thank you."
