For what it's worth, I think that it would be great to have a monthly hair contest here. It would all be in good spirit and some lucky soul would get the pleasure of knowing that his hard work and dedication has not gone unnoticed. I know Bill and some others that work on this site are probably cursing me right now, but it would be totally exciting. Any feedback?
I was wondering what you mean by this? Do you mean a "theme of the month" type thing? One month, longest hair (which probably is pointless since the same guys would win every time), another month, fastest growing hair, another, "wackiest hairdo" (this might be fun) etc.? I actually did make a post a couple of months ago asking people if they felt they had the fastest growing hair of the guys here(I even pointed out 3 contenders from various updates) but only got about 3 or 4 "entrants". I believe someone recently posted looking for the longest hair here, which most regulars here know is a toss up between Absalom and EdG, with Trolleypop close behind.
David
Well, I wasn't necessarily talking about the longest hair, but the hair that you like best. In my twisted opinion that would mean the sexiest hair, but that's just me. I'm crazy, ya know. You would vote your conscience, etc... You would vote as to what you liked best, if I may be so bold. Let's do it! Yeah!
Hey as long as everyone knows its in good fun and no one gets their feelings hurt if they dont 'win' its sounds like a good idea.
I don't think there would be any hard feelings. I know that I wouldn't win, but I am considering some people that I might vote for. [evil grin].
I'm all for a "hair contest", as long as it's run by a total dictatorship (ME!), --- that way, I can win every time!!!
I can take a photo to "prove" that I already have the longest hair on the board (if I lower my head and sit cross-legged, I can even touch my feet - lol!!), --- which is waaaaaaaaay longer than Trolleypup's or Absalom's!
Then after I win 1st place in every category I can think of, we'll simply "wash - rinse - reapeat"... No need for a vote, since I'll get to make all decisions unilaterally!! WOOPEEE!!!!!! I can't wait to compose all my acceptance speeches, --- just like at the Oscars!!!!

Noooooooo Please, we had that happen already with bush. And look where it's gotten us.
Just kiddin' Ken.
Nah, he doesn't have enough oil. Bushie and Dicky aren't interested unless there's a lot of oil to grab, or a chance to make a lot of money for some corporations. OTOH, he has a lot of hair and Dicky might get jealous of that.
And once they grab it, all interest ceases. Just look at poor Louisiana. B&D's logic must be that throwing more money at Louisiana would be a waste, because the oil companies are sucking all the oil out of it already, so money would be better spent on Iraq. ;-)
Hey there, Urban Cowboy (KEN) I never got a chance to tell you since I'm gone so much and the messages fell on down the line, but, there was a pic that you took a short while ago that was fabulous. Seriously, that should be framed. Anyway, I just thought the contest would supercharge the site and make someone very happy.
And I know one person who will listen with rapt attention, just as long as you don't break the mirror!
When I was in high school, in the early fifties, a buddy and I had a "hair contest" to see whose hair would grow the longest in a year...in those days most of us had longer hair on top but short on the sides and back...both of us had a difficult time in getting the barber not to cut the top hair...well, to make a story short...my buddy won...his hair grew over seven inches from one summer to the next...while I struggled to grow a bit over five inches...ah, those were the days!
Heres my entry for weird photoshopp'ed pic of the day. Its me anime'd. I know I've already lost to Mr. Congeniality but I've got a fightin spirit in me.
I don't know why, but I like it.
Thanks, I only made this picture because when I looked at myself in it I thought it looked like I had anime style hair. Heres the original one with my real mug.
From working with these photos I figured I have a fairly androgynous face shape. Take a look at the photo below to see what I mean, I could easily plug a anime girls face in my head and it dont look so bad. Im actually prety hot as a anime girl, haha.
That is really cool! I have never see anything like that before.
sounds like fun!!I have no idea who I would vote for though lol...that's gonna be a tough call!!
It would be tough to decide and I suspect that there would be a different winner each month. I know whom I would vote for, but, that's just me. It's a secret. Shhhhhh.....It would be a lot of fun.
..I think I have an idea of who to vote for...but he's not a member of this board. Is that a problem?
I don't know. Perhaps you could get him to join. There are several members here that I have thought about voting for. Actually, I have one in mind. I think that they would have to be a member, if they ever have such a thing here. I just don't see how it could hurt anyone's feelings. I would never want to do that. When my Grandfather was 86 he had much better hair than me and I never felt bad about that. I am happy for people that are blessed with such things and I know that I am blessed in other ways. It all works out, however, you have now got me curious. Who is it? Curious minds want to know....
lol!!you might not even know who I'm talkin about,he's posted here a few times in the past, but you might have missed his posts, due to your obligations as a truck driver or what not.but I'll go ahead and tell you anyway...you have e-mail? :)
Yes, let me know. I wanna see a pic too. johnpew@sbcglobal.net
Dang! Not allowed to leave it empty!
I do?awwww...thanks!!I wasn't expecting any votes!! :P
But when it was suggested about a year ago on gaylonghair.com, one man's brief but succinct comment, mostly agreed with, was, "No friggin pageants, man." The consensus over there was that having sash queens was not the longhair thing to do. It's interesting to see this mostly straight crowd going the other way (at least for now) on this!
Bill
I think that gay-long-hair has more to do with relationships than with hair, but I could be mistaken. I really can't see a thing like this on that site, but, at the same time I think that it would be cool here. I'm not really sure as to what the difference is. But, I know that you have the technology and the awesome power to make it happen if you wanted to. And it would be fun. Nothing, but, pure clean fun. It would be especially nice if we all knew whom voted for whom. I certainly wouldn't mind. That way the person that you vote for would know that you like their hair, I guess????:) Hummmm????
Contests don't really wind my watch and flip any switches for me, sorry. I'm not the competitive type.
I will say that I don't think this is a good idea at all. While some of us can grow fantastically long and stunning hair, there are those of us who cannot, and yet to those who cannot, their hair is as special to them as it is to any other among us who has the long-hair bug. For an award to be bestowed on one or the other does not create a feeling of brotherhood when this one or that one is vying for an award and personally, I feel that some could have their feelings hurt. Someone, like me, with receded, thin hair would never win, and while I could not care less, perhaps there are those among us who take things like that to heart and detrimented as a result. Who can say?
The world itself is a competition - dog eat dog and so on. This little corner of the web is a place for all us guys having, wanting, or growing long hair here on a non-competitive footing exchanging information in an atmosphere of fellowship.
My opinion, Bragi
Good point there, Bragi. I have to agree that I am not "follicarly blessed" like some guys who immediately come to mind, but nevertheless, my hair is as important to me as it is to those who are blessed with great genes. I'm not of the opinion that there should be a "beauty contest" here, that's not gaining anything, and really only deflates the egos of us not so lucky. The purpose of this board is to support one another.
However, I don't mind contests if they are more comically inclined, things like "wacky hairdo of the month", etc. If this is something that could give us all a good laugh, I'm all for it.
David
Well, I am not cursing you Jeffrey, but what would this be based on? If length is the issue, then Elizabeth Regina (who is on the left) has the longest hair. If it is limited to guys with the greatest length then it would be myself, Ed G., and Hair Religion. All three of us have hair nearly identical in length. If it is based on overall appearance, then Jason would come out at or near the top.
Anyway, what attributes would be in this contest? It would have to be a combination of things. It might be an interesting thing to do. Maybe you could have something like "longhair of the month". That might be cool.
Absalom
...very colorful!!!
What attributes would be in this contest:
Democracy. Thats about all. The attributes, whatever they are, would be in the minds of each individual. It would not be based on hair length, but, on a multitude of things. Basically, who do YOU think has the best hair. I think that would interest most people.
As far as winning some kind of award: I wouldn't stand a rat's a** of a chance, but I would still vote and enjoy doing so.
How bout a "best picture" contest instead? This would even the field for those of us who still have "short" hair and for those of us who may not be as genetically blessed as others. People could vote for whatever they wanted, be it creativity in the pic, an interesting hairstyle, or a funny facial expression. This would also encourage people to post more pics, which is my favorite part of this board.
Thanks, Gregor! I like this idea way more than a "best hair" contest (although, quite frankly, if it involves more work for the moderators or tech crew, we've already got a lot on our plates).
- Ken
...we may be asking for "LONG HAIR QUOTES" submissions, so start thinking up some of your BEST quotes and write them down
for next month's submissions.
The only reason I mentioned this is becasue Justin and I ALREADY had
a Hair Quotes 'submissions' MONTHS ago and we didn't want you guys to think that we got the idea from this post. We didn't.
Stay tuned for details.
some that I've seen tossed around here on this board in the past (hehe..I don't take credit for something that I haven't done! \m/)
"us long hairs occasionally have a bad hair day.for the short hair though,EVERY day is a bad hair day!!" (too long, perhaps?)
"I'm the mane attraction around here" (or something along those lines..)
and one that I made up:(kinda lame though..)
"I long for long hair" :)
That one's from "On Being a Longhair", where it reads, "For the shorthaired, every day is a bad hair day!"
Good one!
Bill
"Not A Day GoesBy That I Don't Grow Hair" ~Bill
And it's already on a mug in the Shoppe!
Yeah, that one was my doing, too. [grin] It's a good "in your face" quote to throw at people who might have harassed you about your hair. It reminds them that every day you grow hair no matter what they might do.
My "bad hair day" quote is a general quote to assert that long hair looks better than short.
Bill
Give 3 awards, one for the healthiest hair, one for overall appearence and one for length if you can think of anymore then post em. LOL you need to make it a poll though
Hi Jeffery
Thank you very much for your suggestion. Much appreciated.
There is just so much going on now as it is to keep this wonderful Hyperboard up and running you would never believe. I am sure this suggestion of yours at some point in the future will be addressed, but
I have no idea when as there are other matters that need tending to. (ie: monthly bills to pay on time so that all can remain a free site for all to enjoy.) We have our hands full with a host of things as it is just to continue to bring all to you guys without interuptions of any kind the MLHH Hyperboard which is our 1st "top priority" for all. This priority HAS to remain a number one objective!
As far as the Gift Shoppe venture is concerned, Luckskind and myself have been "working" on a number of different future "ideas" together, NONE of which are yet to the point to be "final enough" to present. (We have to get all just right for all of you guys before anything is presented in the Gift Shoppe.) Each and every new item has to be thought-out very throughly so that when it is time to announce a "new" something it has been brought to its highest completion. And this takes a very long time! Luckskind has merely given some "hints" of ideas for the future of the Gift Shoppe..........perhaps enough to span a years worth of time!(None however are written in stone at this very moment so to speak.) There is MUCH work left to figure-out. Luckskind is an exceptional and well known artist, but he does have to earn a living. He has devoted hundreds of spare time hours for free so that this Shoppe is what it is today. WE are both in touch on an almost daily basis always passing thoughts and ideas back and forth. There is more work here than most would ever realize........and all done with the idea of helping the Hyperboard out with only things of the highest quality offered to its members. (We would NEVER have anything but the best offered to any of you guys.)
I know Luckskind has spoken in such a way that one may think that the Gift Shoppe will always be here. This will probably be the case for another year thanks to a wonderful couple who desires to keep the shoppe alive for everyones enjoyment regardless if they desire to make a purchase-donation or not. However, the Shoppe IS due to end on Jan. 14th of this year when it is suppose to expire. But, thanks to this wonderful and loving couple it looks as if the shoppe will not die afterall. Most likely all will go smoothly when all new info has to be entered into Caffe-Press just before the shoppe is due to expire.
I myself will ONLY MAKE THIS THIS ANNOUNCEMENT to all when I know for sure that all is in order and that the Shoppe IS indeed going to remain with us for an entire year.
Again Jeffery, thank you ever so much for your suggestion.
With all good wishes-
Justin~

Only if we can opt out. But then, if people opted out it might make others wonder why they never win. You could make it a one-shot opt-in, or even set up your own little web site for it. Personally, I wouldn't want to enter such a contest. To some extent, not wanting to "enter a beauty contest where people evaluate me according to a set of arbitrary standards" is why I'm here. What's "best"? The longest? The shiniest? The most consistantly trimmed to length? The straightest? The curliest? As another suggested, you could have categories but we're a small site so you'd end up with 2 or 3 people in some categories. Also, we're a support forum. Competition has its place, but it's not a supportive endeavor. I think you'll find getting us all to agree on something such as this is like herding cats.
First, would such a contest further our main mission, support of longhaired men? We have men here from all generations, races, nationalities, religions, etc., united in one purpose - to support those men who wish to grow their hair. Some activities can be divisive or be seen as unwelcoming by some who need support - an example of this is having personal ads and the inevitable comeons and drooling that would come along with them, and that is why we don't have them here. As for a contest, it would be supportive of the winners, but along with winners always come losers, and do we want to tell people who've come here for support that they are losers?
Second, someone would have to do the work of managing the project. This is a lesser issue, because any project which has interest will have people interested in managing it. It need not be the same people who manage the web board. The Gift Shoppe is run by Justin and Luckskind, for example, not by the MLHH crew.
