Hi everyone,
I found this website a couple months after I decided to start growing my hair out in June. I've been lurking the site for a while and its been a great resource, but after taking a good look for the first time at the overall condition of this head of hair, I am kind of distressed and freaked.
I am at about 6 inches overall of growth now, and I have always been told "how much hair I have" every time I went to get a cut. However, lately (for months now) I have been somewhat worried about the amount of hair I lose. Almost every time I comb my hand through my hair at least one hair comes out with it. Often times it is not a healthy looking hair as it looks kind of bent, thin, and sometimes not as long as it should be. I decided to take a close look at my hair and here's what I found :(
Balding! I think... and I'm only 20. I've been on the Conditioner Only Showering regime for about 4 months now and it seems to work better by not stripping natural oils that protect my thin hair. Also I've been taking several vitamins including ones with biotin going on 3 weeks. I apologize for the long post, thank you for reading - I appreciate any advice you guys can give me!
If you are in your 20s and have experienced hair-loss then you need to see a Dermatologist. Since you are young I feel strongly that Propecia will stop your hair-loss. You can get Finasteride fairly cheap nowadays, ask your Doctor about it, or, get Proscar and cut the tablets into quarters. You have very nice hair and I think that you can keep it with today's medications. I am not being rude, I just don't want to see another young man loose his hair if he doesn't have to. BTW, your hairline looks a lot like mine.
Being distressed causes stess and stress can trigger hair-loss, so, don't be distressed! Best wishes, Jeffrey.
Thanks all for the encouragement
That is by far the most unappetizing sandwich I have ever heard of Luckskind, but being the health nut I have become, I think I might as well try it, haha. I've been taking One A Day Mens and a Hair Skin & Nails everyday, but I doubt I've been getting ALL of the vitamins and minerals a body needs.
As far as preventing baldness, having healthy (long) hair is a priority so I will be visiting a Dermatologist soon for some professional advice. Time to wiki Propecia.
Take action now to prevent and reverse any hair loss. You have great hair and it's obvious you care about it. If you see a doctor now, you could really see a difference.
My dad started losing his hair when he was in his mid 40's. Is there anyway that this doesn't happen to me.
We are not doctors so tere is no way to tell if you are actually 'balding.' It might be your nutrition. Check with a doctor or dermatologist to be sure. If it is balding there are products that can help.
If you are into high powered nutrition here's a recipe:
* 1/2 small can of tomato paste (no spices--just the tomatoes--not the Italian style one).
* 1/2 cup cooked and mashed carrots.
* 1/2 can of tuna (in water--not oil). Drain water out. (Fish canned in oil is not as good as the one packed with water becasue the oils tend to absorb the Omega oils).
Mix all three ingredients together to make the filling for your 'sandwich).
Then put filling between two slices of 100% whole wheat bread OR inside of a 100% whole wheat pocket bread.
This 'sandwich contains huge amounts of anti-oxidents! The tomatoes contain lycopene which is epecially good for men and their prostates. The fish contains tons of selenium-a powerful anti-oxident that many foods do not contain. Plus there are plenty of minerals.
Along with your sandwich, have a cup or two of strong tea. Not the herbal kind--just regular tea (like Lipton).
*Take vitamins A (25,000 units of beta carotene, E (1000 units of NATURAL E and C (1000 mgs.)
The above recipe may not stop balding but it will make you the healthiest guy in town!
Good Luck!
A diet that is very high in Vitamin A is a known cause for hair-loss. Too many carrots, etc...
That doesn't look like a very tasty sandwich... I really like tuna when mixed with mayonaise and eaten with potato chips... probably not as healthy by a long shot but does contain a lot of good protein... Any idea how do I know if a bread is actually whole wheat bread? I heard alot of the so called wheat bread is just white bread with food colorings on it. I wish there was a way to make food that is not only healthy, but tastes good too. I think life would really suck if we had to eat nasty food in order to stay healthy or alive... I'd rather live a shorter life if that means I can eat tasty food I enjoy every day.
By the way I do take a multi vitamin every day but it hasn't seem to affect hair growth.... I heard you have to take it for a long time to know.
But I suppose you could add stuff to it--just as long as you keep the main ingredients.
I agree with Jeffrey, you should see a doctor right away. Medications such as propecia have been found very effective in stopping MPB, especially for the young, and the earlier you start the better. I'm 53, have just been diagnosed with early MPB, and have started taking propecia in the last couple of weeks.
My prayers are with you here. Remember, we are here to lend you support at any time, be sure to keep us updated.

I lose a goodly amount every time i shower/condition, and I always think, wow it took me all that time to grow it and it's falling out!!
But I guess thats just normal and I can't honestly see any difference to the overall amount.
And so would I be. Well understandable.
If I were you, I would see a Dr. this week to take a look at this. It may be something or it may be nothing. But, at least rather than the anxiety of continued wondering you would be given an opinion by an expert, or perhaps refered to another Dr. for evaluation.
Good luck to you, and may all turn-out to be nothing to be concerned about. Be SURE and ask about Vitamins however. Yes, they have their place so often, but sometimes too much of a certain Vitamin gives the body a real work-out to try and rid itself of.
