I have been contemplating to buy a compressor and an airbrush... however there are some dilemma I have to consider... first is the compressor might be too loud (I wont use an airbrush compressor because I want to be able to spray T shirts and an airbrush compressor that can do the kind of psi required for T shirts are very expensive, but they have the advantage that they are very slient) and if I want to use it at night... then it might wake some neighbors up.
Another thing to consider is that I noticed I have a short span when it comes to hobbies... unfortunately hobbies costs money and I need to save some money each month so that I can be ready for graduation (I will need a new job after graduation so I need the money to help myself during the periods of unemployment) and I dont want to buy something that 1. won't use it much due to lack of advancement in skills, and 2. will result in spending even more money. I do enjoy artistic things and I took an art class in high school that did involve the use of an airbrush, and I really like it too. However something has to go because some funds needs to be freed up...
So the thing is if I am going to go ahead and buy this setup, I can do it 2 ways. I can either forget saving anything this month and buy both the airbrush and compressor, or get the compressor first, then buy the airbrush next month. Or should it be the other way around? an airbrush is practically useless if you can't power it but I can think of other uses for the compressor such as blowing dust off my computer (it is VERY dusty now)
Im sorry for the off topic post but I got 2 voices inside me telling me to buy and the other telling me not to buy because 1. I will use lots of my monthly wage and have to cut back on other things, and 2. It will result in spending more money. So you know I keep thinking over these things and I might lose hair thinking too much... who knows?
No, you're not going to loose hair thinking about guitar stuff. Learn to play like Jimi Hendrix and it won't matter if you loose hair, or, not. You'll be $$$$$$$$$$$$$
Tai Fu;
You have obviously given this issue a considerable amount of mature thought, particularly with your future finances. That said; you have also shared your very artistic talents with us. If you can afford this equipment now, there is a very good chance that 1. You will blossom in even more artistic directions and 2. You may be able to use your talents to bring in an income to offset your expenses while you are having fun. While it is certainly wise to be prudent, don't let a life experience pass you by. I would think you can do some on-line shopping for a good deal or check the bulletin board in the Art Department of your school for used equipment. If no postings, talk to some of the art students and professors.
I say go for it !! (and don't you dare tear out a single strand of that beautiful hair of yours !! HA!)

I dont think I can bring in a sizable income however when it comes to art... there is an old saying, an artist dont become famous until many years after he dies. That is certainly true of alot of the great artists we have known and loved... like Picasso, Van Gough, and possibly Leonardo. I just want to get my hands dirty (so to speak...) but as far as equipments goes... I think 200 dollars is the minimum I gotta spend (airbrush and compressor)
I have a small, 15 gallon air compressor on hand, and I can attest, it is NOT quiet by any means. It peaks at about 130 PSI, and it has a regulator. Something like this probably runs around $200-$300 or so (not sure what this is in your currency). If you want quiet, you'll pay more. Don't forget maintenance costs, etc. Also, some of these compressors require oil, and some are oil-less. This might be important, as you probably want an oil-less compressor.

Yea problem with oil less compressor is that its VERY loud... I used to have a 99 dollar compressor that was 1/7 hp, oil-less with a 1 gal tank. When the thing turns on it sounds louder than one of those jackhammers they use to bust up concrete. Ones I am looking at is around 99 dollars but they do require oil... one guy said its about 67 decibel when it turns on which is probably not too bad...
