Hey guys -
I'm headed to the salon for a split ends trim in about a half hour.
(Thank Goddess).
I'm in that "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
stage where my hair looks like something out of a really bad 1940's low budget science fiction B-movie that you'd see on MST3K. Hopefully it'll grow on to the next phase soon.
I've been going to the salon for conditioning treatements several times now, and I'm noticing that each time, my hair feels great, but then as I do blow dry it on occasion, and as it's gotten longer (don't know if that has anything to do with it), my hair really seems to dry out faster, (a noticeable difference within a few weeks).
I've pretty much stopped styling it other than letting it dry with a bandana on. And just because I hate the feel, I rarely use any kind of products on my hair any more, meaning gel or mousse.
Any ideas what could be causing the quicker drying out? Could it be because it is longer? Could the deep conditioning treatments actually be hurting the hair?
I've also been trying some different shampoos and conditioners bought from the salon, which is no cheap endeavor. Still haven't found anything too great.
I've been using Biolage shampoo mostly, and while it really worked well but now I'm noticing my hair's getting to feel more and more like matted, without any softness when I rinse it out.
The Biolage conditioner's $8.00 a tube, and only lasted about three weeks.
Can anybody with longer hair give me a simple regimen for taking care of my hair that will keep it healthy, shiny etcetera that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg, and that doesn't require lots of trips to the salon? I'd love to think that there's some way to keep it healthy and shiny without this much effort.
When my hair was shorter I never had the dry prob, and just used regular store bought stuff. Not that I'd ever go back to that short length again.
Also if it helps, my hair's a shade shorter than down to my s-blades, and really fine, but very full.
Send help!

Hey Guys -
Went to this new salon last night, for lack of finding a good one yet in DC.
Told the guy I was growing my hair all one length and as long as I could, and are you ready for this? He sat down with me for the better part of 20-25 minutes with books and pics of different long haired styles, pointing things out that would look good, how he could do them, what it would take, how long I'd have to let my hair grow, the whole 9 yards! I found the look I'm going for (finally!), and it's great.
It's about mid back, with wavier/almost curly style, and it's cut in layers only in the back to give it a fuller look. It's a really hot style!
He talked through the whole ends trim, (he only had to take off microscopic amounts - I thought my ends were worse than they were, and in worse shape than he found it to be), telling me about how a perm works, what it entails, what to do to keep it healthy and revitalize it afterwards, the whole 9 yards!
It's one of the best sessions I've had in a chair, and this place is TOTALLY men long hair friendly!
He also recommended a shampoo and conditioner for long hair. (He told me that if I was going to style it with a blow drier, get one with a cooling button, so that after you blow it with hot, you can cool the hair down - I actually have one that I bought at a salon.). He also said that if I was going to style it, this was good stuff to use, especially with fine hair such as mine.
The shampoo is Nexus "Therappe" Shampoo, and I used it this morning, (you leave it in for 3 minutes before you rinse), and the conditioner I'll have to get the name for, but it's by Nexus as well.
If anyone's interested, here's the hair salon info:
