hi folks,
I've heard the "hot-oil treatment" term beeing thrown around here from time to time..can someone be so kind as to explain to me what this is?is it beneficial?and how/where can I get one of these?thanks in advance..
-Jacob
Hi Jacob,
I have seen these sold in the hair section of most stores. They are apparently a "one use treatment". I have never tried one myself, although I've been tempted to, as my hair has been really acting up the last couple of days with all the humid, mild weather, it's been really frizzy and BIG. (posted about it below) I've also been wondering about the various oils people have been putting into their hair. My hair seems really dry lately, and conditioner doesn't seem to help.
David
do they sell it at walmart?maybe you should try it...maybe it will solve your problem :)
I have seen it at Wal-Mart, I think its around $5-10 for one treatment, seems kind of expensive, but I don't have any idea how long a treatment is good for, or how one actually does a hot oil treatment. I've heard of some guys here putting various oils(jajoba oil, olive oil, etc.) in their hair (small amount rubbed in palms and rubbed in) in lieu of leave in conditioner. I guess I find it a bit weird putting oil in my hair but maybe it would help.
I'm still wondering if the reason my hair has been acting up lately is due to the humidity, maybe it'll settle down when the weather becomes drier. Perhaps I should consider shampooing less often.
David
hmm..do you remember what brand you saw at the store?I think I'm in dire need of something like this...my ends now are in splitsville lol!!
this is a little bit enlightening, try googling..maybe you'll come up with something better :))

I'm pretty sure it was Alberto VO5, think it was in a tube or something that you heated up and then put in your hair for half an hour or so, I didn't look at it really closely before, seemed gross at the time, but now I'm thinking about having another look. Thanks for the link, think I'll go visit it now.
I use an Herbal Hair Oil that I bought at a Whole Foods Supermarket. I would recommend people buying hair products from regular supermarkets to look at the labels before buying it.
I use the oil when I want my hair to be more manageable.
I've used this stuff before and the effects were noticeable as soon as it was shampooed out. What you do is put a little tube filled with the oil in a cup of hot water to warm it, then twist off the top of the tube and apply it to your hair before shampooing and conditioning. Let it sit for a minute or so and then rinse and shampoo it out. It's that simple. :)
I stopped imto my local Wal-mart this AM on my walk and picked some up, not as expensive as I had thought. It's $3.96 CDN and there are 3 tubes in the box, so $1.32 per treatment. It's supposed to be put into wet hair, before shampooing, so I'll try it on next shampoo day. (I'm still not sure how often this should be used) I'm not sure if I should still condition after the shampooing, as usual, afterwards. I also plan to go back to Aussie Moist conditioner. I had switched to Pantene Pro V, and am not sure if this was drying my hair too much.

Hi David,
I bought some this afternoon, $3.50 for 3 tubes, but all they had was the "strengthening" formula in the blue box. I did some research last night and found that they had 3 formulas, the other 2 are for frizzies or moisturizing.
I just tried it but my hair is still wet, I won't expect miracles for my frizzies though. I'll keep you updated on the results.
Later,
Chris
Hi Chris,
They had two types in my Wal-Mart, strengthening and moisturizing, I bought the moisturizing as my hair has been dry lately. I plan to try it on my next "shampoo day", which will be in the next day or two. (I only shampoo twice a week, any more and my hair is even drier) This will be VERY interesting.

Hey David,
After it dried it got really frizzy but seems a lot softer and shinier. I had to squirt on some Infusium to tame it down.
But I still will use the rest of the bottles and see what happens in a few weeks.
P.S. I did use conditioner after the oil and washing.
Chris
the link I showed you yesterday said that you should do it once a week...I'm not sure that doing that often is necessary though..:)
I've been using Doo Gro oil for the past month or so, and I've been very pleased with the results. The specific stuff is called "Stimulating Growth Oil," but I'm under no illusion that its going to make my hair grow any faster. :-) It was simply the stuff the local Target had, and since it had sweet almond oil in it I thought I'd give it a shot.
I've just been putting a couple drops in my palm, rubbing my palms together, and then smoothing the oil over my hair, especially on the crown area where I'm prone to dryness. I don't use it every day, but I do use it if my hair's feeling dry (especially on shampoo days), and it seems to do the trick.
It did take me a while to get the amount right, and more than once I've had to shampoo two days in a row because I overdid it.

Hey there Jacob. My mother uses alberto V05 hot oil treatment. You can find it at walmart , Kmart, Target , Walgreens , Meijers , CVS , Publix , Sams Club......sorry i got carried away. Well , Its a bummer to hear your hair has a severe splits. Perhaps a very small trim might help. I was thinking about getting one my self because my hair is in splitsville as well. BTW , I never knew you were greek. I read your post on a previous thread saying you were born in the islands of rhode or something like that. Well my mediterranean brother , Kali tihi!!
Thanks Chris.I'm gonna go get me some today,as my hair (ends particularly)seems damaged by the blow-dryer.but then again, even as a shorthair I still had split ends,I dunno,I guess my hairs are prone to splitting!:( a trim is out of the question of course,it's bad enough that my hair is growing so slowly even without trims,a trim now is gonna set me back even more.I'll just wait until the 2-year mark or maybe even longer...anyway,yeah man...I'm mediterranean, but I wasn't born in Greece...i was born in the states, then moved to Greece when I was 12,came back here (St.louis) when I was 20 (college).kali tihi...LOL!!I didn't know you knew Greek...yeah...good luck to you too!!! :))
VO5 does work nicely and the stuff that Mouse mentioned should work nicely as well. Since many people use olive oil for their hair I am beginning to wonder what hot/warm olive oil might do, but this could be risky. The heat will open the scales, or, plates of the hair shaft allowing the oil to permeate the hair shaft. Olive oil can be difficult to get out under the best of conditions and if it really penetrated the hairshaft it might be around for a very long time. I do know that VO5 works very well and is simple to use.
At one point I was using Hot Oil with quite good success. Might as well give it a try and then you will know how it does for your type hair. (Quite helpful in the knots and tangles department...........as long as these are not the result of some split-ends.)
