I meant to post it sooner, but I had my hair straightened by my sister.
almost everyone there said something good about it, I just regret not taking more pictures.
the lighting isnt all that great though, but its better than nothing I guess.
heres another pic
It certainly looks very good right now...what method was used to straighten, and are you concerned about any long term damage?
My sister used a flat iron, I'm not really worried about damage because it isn't like I do that everyday or every other day.
Does anyone know if using a flat iron every few months does any serious damage?
Does anyone know if using a flat iron every few months does any serious damage?
Personally I do not think a flat iron used in moderation and on the very lowest setting will do any serious damage. I have a teflon coated, ionic, flat iron that I use on the ends after shampoo/deep condition (and completely dry) just to tame the frizzies...not actually "straighten"(about once a week)...just a couple of "swipes", followed by some jojoba oil.
What do you think? DavidN??
Good Luck

Hi Walter,
I don't think what you're doing could do any harm, sounds very mild. I was much more "brutal" when I used these things, and used them FAR too frequently, my problem is that I got hooked. I would not worry in the least.
David
It's really nice, your hair are really beautiful
i think we would like yo see you before you Straightened your hair
Bye
Hi Caesar,
Your hair looks wonderful, both in your pictures with the straightened pictures and in your avatar picture with it unstraightened. I don't like to be "preachy" here but I do hope you straighten with discretion, and only infrequently, as you have fantastic quality hair. I caused considerable damage to my hair when I fell ino the straightening trap and I would hate to see you damage yours.
All the best,
David
It looks pretty good. I'm not too much of a fan of the straightening iron, personally, but as long as it's an occasional thing, more power to ya! =)

dude.wow...what a transformation!!!it looks superb..
now,for the damage..as long as you do it infrequently, you should be fine.
I'm actually you brought up this subject,I recently purchased a straightener.I don't know how to use it though,so I'm afraid I might damage the hair :((straighteners are pretty much "unchartered territory" for me..(I'm gonna hot-oil treat my hair first cause it's kinda dry,the straightener is gonna make it worse :( )
I forgot to ask:for how long did the straightened state last? :P
it lasts as long as you don't get your hair significantly wet
when I get it done I would have it for about two days, since I would then wash it. It probably can last a bit longer than that though, I dunno for sure though
Hi Jacob,
Sorry to interupt, but I was surprised you mentioned buying a straightener. I know you take the best care of your hair, so I assume you will only be using it infrequently, and only after putting in something to protect it from heat. (I would really hate to see you damage your hair, your hair is so awesome the way it is) I did considerable damage to mine (and REALLY regret that now), before I stopped using these "tools of the devil" four months back, however, I knew very little about hair care before discovering the MLHH, and straightened almost daily with little protection to my hair. The length the straight effect lasts depends on the weather, in humid weather, it lasts almost no time, in dryer weather, somewhat longer.

Hey Dave,
yeah...I bought the straightener out of impulse.one of my woman friends told me it would look better straightened,so I went ahead and bought it :(.I didn't even open it yet.needless to say,I regreted it the next day :(I don't know what to do with it..maybe return it..or give it to some freind as a gift :)).
I don't know what to do...my hair looks like crap :(it's very dry too...I went to Wal-mart yesterday but they didn't have any hot-oil treatment..oh well..I guess i'll have to order off the internet or somethin (sorry for the rant)
I've been meaning to ask you...do you have any photos from your 1999 hair?did you used to straighten it back then?
Hi Jacob,
I would just return it myself, My daughter used to straighten her hair and really damaged it to the point that she had to get a short haircut.
As far as the hot oil treatment, I tried some yesterday and my hair is not as dry as usual, it is very soft also. Try the drug store CVS, Right aid, even K-mart.
Chris
Hi Jacob,
Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of my 1999 "Jason" hair (it really did seem that good, in my mind's eye, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me!), I wish I did now. Ironically, I took better care of my hair back then without even knowing it, I never straightened, and got by on one good wash a week. The first time I ever touched a straightening iron was about 9 months into my regrowth which started in 2004. My hair had been making great progress to that point (good growth rate), and looked healthy. The first time I straightened, I thought the hair looked so much smoother that I became TOTALLY hooked, I straightened almost daily until I discovered the MLHH in September. The sad thing is that every time I straightened, I could see a few hairs in the sink, why I didn't have the intelligence to stop, I don't know, someone here actually said that straightening irons are like crack. I still don't know if my thin hair now is due to early MPB or overuse of irons. That's probably why I was so concerned when you mentioned buying one, I really didn't want another guy to go through the grief I went through.
David
Looks good before and after! I wouldn't risk the damage though since you have good hair to begin with.
Bruce
Hi Caesar,
your hair looks great as always. Glad the straightening turned out well! If your sister used a flat iron, let's hope she didn't go beyond the medium heat or "wool" setting, even that may be stressful for hair. The "cotton" or "linen" setting would probably singe or destroy your hair (or did I misunderstand the term "flat iron"?
All the best,
Hans-Uwe
