Hello!
I went to a salon last week to try some simple but formal updo. I
wanted to see how I would look like with my hair up. Well, click the
"pictures" link to see the result for yourselves. I also put in some
pictures to describe my hair loose. I liked the formal look myself.
It was very neat although quite feminine...
Hi.
This is very nice indeed. You have beautiful hairs, is it your natural colour?
It may look feminine but that doesn't matter much to me. Why would something pretty be only for women? After all many women now wear what use to be men style haircut.
I am tented to have mine style this way for the pleasure of trying it (they are just a few inches longer).
Yours
Jean
Hi,
Yup, even the highlights. Took almost four years to grow with trims
twice a year.
Yeah, I thought I'd have some fun with my hair since it requires so much taking care of. :-)
Jarkko
You have great looking hair. I commend you on trying something different. The updo is fantastic! Did the stylist use rollers to help in creating your coiffure? There are so many ways that you could do your hair with your length.
Thanks for the excellent pictures, I will be anticipating your next installment.
TA
Quite surprisingly, the do was made on clean and dry hair. The stylist used a brush, a comb, two hairbands, quite many hairpins (I counted 38 later), some gel and a lot of hairspray. The result was quite durable. :-) She needed over an hour to create the style. And yes, it was quite expensive. I payed something like 43 USD for it.
That may take a while...
Jarkko
that was a great style, what was it called? I have found much luck with a french twist for formal occasions. please post more pictures of braids, buns, other styles!
A simple loose and curly high bun with a right parting? :-)
I might try the twist sometimes. But here's a picture of an "indian" hair style...
Jarkko
Hey, thats pretty cool!! I Will be trying it.
Justin
It was excellnent ...verry feminine
actually u have taken quite good care of your hair
i am very jealous.
maybe it would possible for me some day or the other
(in india its quite conservative to have boys have long hair )
anyway keep posting pics i enjoy it
Hi, Jarrko--
Thanks very much for sharing your latest pictures.
I am very glad that your hair is continuing to
grow and look totally gorgeous!
My black hair is about the same length as yours.
I find that using small plastic fork clips to
form two "pigtails" for the "American Indian"
look works better for me than just a single
pony tail secured by a cloth-covered elastic
band.
I consider you a kindred spirit and a source
of new hairstyling ideas. Thanks again.
Best wishes,
--Loren
Beautiful. Just beautiful. I couldn't be more jealous. Thanks for sharing.

Holy cow, Jarko! Your hair is totally beautiful (if you don't mind my saying that)! I dug up a couple of pics you posted last year of you with a great chin-length bob. It's really grown out nicely. You look better with an updo than any guy I've seen with one (though, I haven't seen many). Why should women have all the fun? I admire your guts! I think the world would definitly be a better place if more young guys were spent time having fun with hair!
That was really neat.... could you tell us more about how the look was actually achieved. What was the stylist reaction and anyone else in the salon.
You've got guts but it was worth it.
Mike
Thanks. I cannot tell you much about the do, it was done on the back of my head. :-) I had told the stylist to create a simple cloud shape like bun from my hair. She made two partial ponytails on top of each other on the back of my head. The rest of my hair was combed away. She then took small sections of free or ponytail hair, teased them with a comb, made loops that she pinned to my scalp and finished the "curls" with hairspray.
About people's reactions... I was a bit nervous about the do but had decided to be cool, pertinent (businesslike?) and keep a slightly humourous and relaxed attitude. So there was no trouble with the stylist at all. I said that I want to try my hair in a simple and stylish high bun in the case I need to present myself in a very fine occasion (just wearing a ponytail or braid gets a bit boring after a while). I discussed the style with her so that in the end she knew exactly what kind of style to create. Just before she was done she said to be a bit unsure of if the result was indeed what I wanted. :-)
Well, it was. There weren't many employees or customers in the salon. I kept my confidence and took the humourous side of the situation. I didn't pay much attention to other people and received no negative or positive feedback from them. So it wasn't too bad for me, especially because I'm quite comfortable with wearing pigtails or braids in public.
Jarkko
I too have work pig tails and braids in public
and have alot of fun with the style. I also
like wearing different types of dangling earings
with my sytles. The combo of the styles
and earings go well together. Get some looks
and comments but take them in stride.
Post some pictures of these styles sometime.
Very lovely, and very feminine. Congratulations on your wonderful hair and the great style. That is what men's hair should look like.
>I'm a Str8 Guy but, Yes..your hair is Very gorgeous!!!:) I'm sooo Jealous!!
I thought your hair looked wonderful. have you tried any other updos . bob
I think I've probably tried most of the simpler hair styles or dos during my growing process: ponytails, simple buns, pigtails, bunches, braids, and accessories like headbands, hair grips or barrettes. It has been interesting to experiment and to find out which look works and which doesn't. I have had bad hair days and have worn bad hairdos. Growing hair is not just dull waiting for two years. There are different options and different looks for all lengths. I think it is good to have a growing plan and neaten the hair twice a year. That way the growing is much more fun. This was my first fancy updo. Better try things late than never!
Jarkko
I love the style of the updo. Please show us some more of your hair styles.I like to put mine in french braids, buns, and I will try a updo very soon.I love girls hair styles a lot. Please dont ever cut your hair, let it grow to waist length.I plan to let mine grow to about 42 inches long. lynn.
I think it looks great!!!!! You mentioned in you other post that it was "durable". How long did you wear this "do" and where? What kind of reactions?
I had the appointment in the salon before noon and wore my hair up until past midnight. The do caused slight pain on my scalp since I'm not used to wearing a hair-do all day long.
Generally, I didn't notice much reactions from strangers. I think people mostly ignored me, some smiled at me surprised and bewildered. Only the people I know made some comments.
I walked a kilometer home from the salon. That took about 10 minutes. Saw some people but that was it. Saw my flatmate and later my girlfriend came for a visit. She thought that my hair looked great. Ok, she loves heavy metal music and my hair. :-) Later in the evening we went down town to see a concert in a music club. We met my friend in a bus and he laughed at my hair. In a positive way, I think. :-) We stopped for drinks in a rock bar before the concert. I didn't pay attention to my hair during the trip and neither did anybody. I would have expected some feedback, good or bad, but I guess going out in a group kinda isolates one from strangers. Before going to bed my girlfriend helped me to take my hair down. :-) It was fixed quite tight.
It was a fun day but not something I'd like to do every day. I was on vacation. I hope my answer appeased your curiosity. Btw, what brought you here?
Jarkko
I think it looks great. I love men who have long hair, and know how to take care of it. I wish more guys would grow long hair, because it is so sexy. And especially when you do an updo. Don't ever cut your hair.
I must have seen the pictures 100 times by now
its so sexy
You should never cut offf your hair
try some different updo and post it
it is indeed a pleasant site to watch
Luck
Great pics, Jarkko.
The updo looks fantastic. It's very feminine, but I think that's just because we're not used to seeing updo's on men. As for the pigtails, I really liked the way you wrapped them up.
I'm only just now growing out my hair and can't wait until it's long enough to do something with. Right now about all I can manage is a "rabbit tail" that someone described elsewhere on the list. Time will solve that problem.
hiii jarrko
u look beautufl , sexy in ur hair styles
i would be verrry interested to see more and more pics of yours . I wish i could have able to do it ...but surely i'll do it one day or the other . you have really inspired me. anyway post new pics may it be old during growing phase. It will be quite interesting to see and share some experiances during growing stage, comments from people around , family members etc Please post as soon as possible
Hi all!
I have been quite surprised about the positive comments I have received about my updo pictures. My being an aesthetic probably helps in this. I guess if anybody had anything negative to say they would be bothered to bring it out here. Maybe people who do not like long hair don't look for a long hair site from the Internet. :-) Anyway, thanks for your response. I'll try to answer to some of your messages later...
Due to many requests, and as a challenge to Sergey's beautiful brown hair, I have created my own hair growing history gallery. It spans almost four years. Due to my love for girly updos most of the pictures are, well, updo pictures. I have tried to figure out the best use of my hair length at any given time. For guys and girls reading this board this may present some ideas how to fix your hair. Of course I have selected only those styles for display that I think "suit" best for my features. Beware, this probably isn't the best source for masculine hair-dos. :-)
Have a nice hair day (regardless of the length, colour and texture of your hair)!
Jarkko

good luck all of u who r growing their hair.........

I did most of them. It is not that difficult, except for (French) braiding and Fancy buns. I guess my girlfriend likes what she sees but prefers my hair free. I haven' t shown her the pictures but she has seen many of styles in "live".
Jarkko
That is pretty much what I'm planning. Two or three more years if everything goes well. It would be cool to have a long braid at that length. A bit like Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. :-)~~~~~o=
Free, ponytail or braid.
Brush, wash every four days, just rinse between washings on the second day, condition, air dry. Sometimes I ignore the conditioner. Basically, try to mess as little as possible with my hair. It grows best if not disturbed. :-)
Jarkko
Cheers
I dislike getting my hair cut. I enjoyed long hair as being part of a male lion, Tarzan, or Robin Hood (played by Michael Praed) image. I have always like the girls with the long, straight hair, especially, if they style it in diffent cute ways. I figured it would be fun to play with my own hair and see the result, if my hair were long as well.
Waist length would be cool but I'll see what my terminal length is. I don't want my hair longer than waist length because I think the hair would no longer complement my appearance but dominate it. And would also become very impractical.
That would be the double "Native American" braids. The cutest is of course the fancy curly bun. I also like high bunches or ponytails.
4) What advice would you give to someone weighing up whether or not to grow their hair?
Hmm. Try all hair lengths once to find out what is best. Then consider what kind of long hair image you want to achieve. Is it a rocker, biker, muscle warrior, nerd, intellectual, androgyneous cutie or something else? And then a reality check to see if the image is achievable. Bear in mind that good-looking long hair needs care, requires styling, must be looked after to avoid damage and accidents, is inconvenient in sports and physical work, and has an impact in work, social spheres, and dating. So, I think it creates a difficult balance. It is easiest to grow hair when young and careless - or old and confident. :-)
Jarkko
Bravo! Jarko
You are truely blessed with beautiful hair. Thanks for sharing your great pictures. My favorite is your French braid. Probably the nicest one I've seen on any man or women. Enjoy your hair.
TA
The signle Fench braid in bad fluorecent lighting (the image becomes greenish)? Actually I didn't like it that much. I think it was too loosely braided. By the way, I had been in sauna and taken a shower wearing the braid. It was still in quite good condition. :-)
Jarkko
HI! I love all the great pictures of your hair styles.I too love to wear girls hair styles a lot.Has anyone said anything negative about your hair? Do you plan to cut your hair?Have you worn any of these styles, the more girly ones out anywhere,or worn a french braid, pig tails,or had your hair curled or had a perm? Lynn
Hi, Lynn
I bet you look cute. I wish women didn't resort to cutting, perming and colouring their hair so much just for getting a new hair style (or should I write hair-do...). I guess I'm an old-fashioned semi naturalist.
If saying that my hair is too long and feminine is something negative... I don't get many "live" comments.
Hell no. I've still got some hair goals to achieve and styles left to try. Besides it is fun to have around.
Well, if anyone wants to know... I've worn about half of the gallery dos out of my house. I used to experiment more while still stydying. Now I'm too busy and lazy (and a bit more conscious about my appearance). I haven't tried real curls and really hate perms (natural or temporary curls are ok)!
Jarkko
wow i have to say ur hair is nice but it looks bad on you.... i really dont like long hair on guys but to have it in braids just looks like u are a very ugly female.... you did look ok with the short hair in the first picture
