At last, I can finally say I made it six months without a haircut. My last cut was sometime in July, so I might be off by a week or two, but close enough. :-)
I started with a 3/4 inch buzz cut on top with the sides slightly shorter and the back short enough to feel like sandpaper at the bottom.
I've had short hair for so long that I have no memory of ponytails, braids, or proper long hair care. This site has been a wealth of information as well as a source of daily support to patiently wait-out the awkward phase. Thanks, guys, you've been a big help.
Mouse
Hi Mouse,
lookin good!!(quite pretty too :P).Your hair is behaving very nicely in the awkward stage!!!at that stage my hair was doin all sorts of weird stuff.Take care!!
Nothing like tucking all the stray ends in and then getting the angle for the photo just right. :-) Actually, it behaves reasonably well most of the time, but I am having to adjust to the fact that it's not going to stay in the same position all day.
Thanks for the support!
I think that you look very nice, I bet that with longer hair that you would look even nicer.
Why would you cut your hair at 3/4 inch? that is way too short for a cute gal like you.
I hope to see it long past your shoulders.
Later,
Chris
The reasons behind the 3/4 inch haircut are many, but sufficed to say I've had short hair ever since I was five or six (a bob of sorts), and it just kept getting shorter. When I discovered I could cut it myself about three years ago it got even shorter. I do like how easy super-short hair is, but I also really like how the longer hair is coming along. It's been an adventure. :-)
Thanks for the kind words, Chris.
Hey Mouse
Your hair is looking excellent. It looks quite healthy and has a nice texture. Long hair will definitely compliment that beautiful face of yours. :-)
Wishing You The Best,
Chris
Thanks, Chris. I do my best to keep it healthy (no blow-drying, hairspray, heat, etc), and I like the waviness. I'm curious as to how the texture will change when the weather goes from dry and cold to hot and humid this summer.
Looking really great, its gonna look even better in a couple of years.
Keep growing, glad you find the board helpful - so do I!!!
Thanks, Dave. The board really is wonderful. If I hadn't have found it I'm pretty sure I would've been getting maintenance trims every few months or something (my family's suggestion), or [gasp!] casually ripping through tangles.
Keep it wild!
Congratulations on the great progess, looking great, can't wait to see you with really LONG hair!
All the best,
David
I'm looking forward to LONG hair too, but I'm content to enjoy the journey. Thanks for the kind words, David, and when can we expect an update from you?
Hi Mouse,
I plan an update in the next week or so, 33 months from last cut, 3 years from start of growth. My hair grows slowly. and this will be the first update since I joined in October, maybe I'm a little nervous about posting it LOL! (I thought I had reached terminal length hair at the time I joined in October but I think I have accomplished some growth once I started learning how to care for long hair)
David
I'll look forward to it!
Well, Mouse, it is wonderful to see an update from you. coming from as short as you had it, it must feel LONG to you! Wind moves it (as do roundhouses), and you can pull it down over your eyes....imagine it by next Christmas!
I love the multi-faceted auburn colour!
Keep it growing, Mouse.

It does feel long, especially in the wind and in martial arts class.
I'm surprised you could pick out the color from the photo; it looks so dark. I'll have to get some pictures in the sun sometime.
Thanks, Shawn!
Hi Mouse,
Great progress! I'm so glad you're growing your hair out - it's going to look amazing.
Thanks Jason! I can't wait to see it in another six months.
Some of us that do have those memories date ourselves by doing so. My last ponytail until recently was almost 31 years ago; about the same time I grew my first mustache that someone else could see!
Good luck; you will enjoy the journey. You have so many more options that most of us don't have (my wife would not approve of me having pink bows and an updo!) that you should have a lot of fun along the way.
Big George
I don't know about pink bows, but I've played around with some headbands. I tend to think I just look silly in them right now, though, but maybe later. I'll consult with my sister when the time comes. :-)
Thanks!
Look s good Mouse! It's going to look fantastic long!
Enjoy the journey!
Bruce
Thanks, Bruce! Adventures are meant to be enjoyed. :-)
Congratulations Mouse! The next 6 months will be even more exciting - at least I found it so. I think you will definitely suit long hair.
All the best.
Thanks, Pablo. I'll look forward to the excitement, probably most of it from all the interesting things wavy hair does as it grows.
Mouse
Hey Mouse, it looks like you're coming along just fine. Your hair will be absolutely gorgeous the longer it gets. A year from now will show excellent results. =) Keep it growing!
-James
I'm looking forward to a year from now (I'll probably be able to comfortably ponytail a good portion of it by then), but I really take things day to day.
Thanks for the kind words, James. I like to see your updates since you're only a few months ahead of me and your hair is wavy too. Of course not two people are going to have their hair grow out exactly the same, but still, I feel like I get a preview. :-)
Mouse
Progressing along mighty nicely there, Mouse!
- Oren
Thanks, Oren, I'll get there eventually. :-)
Hi Mr Mouse,
that's an excellent hair color. You'll look awesome with longer hair, and I'm looking forward to seeing 2007/8/9 length updates!
All the best, and, happy growth!
Hans-Uwe
Hi Mouse
it should have been mr"s", shouldn't it?
Sorry about the mistake
Hans-Uwe
Yep, it's Ms. Mouse. :-) My computer sometimes does strange things too.
Thanks for the support. I can't wait to see how it looks six months from now!
