hi I have curly or at least very very wavy hair. Its not long now because I have always been discouraged to grow it out by the poofyness of it. Anyway I would like to try but I need some suggestions on how to style it. I am a senior in college so I need to be able to look professional sometimes(like job interviews) but other times it doesn't matter. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike H.
Hey, I have been going thru a Very similar Dilemma as you..I've been growing my hair from a very short cut for about 9 Month's Now..Though, I Trim the lower back and lower sides Once every month just to keep it clean and not growing down my neck..When my hair is wet and I pull a strand, the top and back measures about (6) inches long..the sides a bit shorter..Until about a Month ago, I was using Lots of Gel and Slicking the top back..as a way to make it look straighter. But, if a strand of hair got out of the Trap of the gel, it would just curl up or stick out!! Well, I've finally had to admit to myself that I have "thick, wavy and curly hair" and to let it be curly and let it curl in any direction it wants..I Do however use "Mousse" to give my hair some body/fullness and to hold the curly locks...I've been patient enough to let it grow this long and I'm going to let it continue to Grow..Grow...grow...for as long as nature will allow:) I really do like seeing people with curly long hair!!! Yes, I like straight, long hair but, I think curly hair can give a person very nice Character and unique-ness that is interesting and sexy to look at...and I hope others will feel the same towards me when my hair gets long..Well, if anyone has found a Better Hair Product besides using Mousse for Curly hair that can possibly give it a more flexible/wet and flowing look..Please Post a reply and Let me know...
Thanks,
Marc
Hi Marc,
Thanks for the reply! I gave up on trying to gel mine down and have been just letting it curl up like you for a few days, its not as bad as I thought it would be =) Anyway, just a quick question. How are you going fixing your hair? Do you just put the mousse in and let it go nuts or do you try to comb it in all directions or what? Just trying to some ideas on how I am going put my hair once it gets to your length(not even close yet)
Thanks again,
Mike
Hi Mike, Well..how I style it is kinda crazy...I Never use a Comb or brush...that would just make it puffy without any curl definition..I apply some Mousse to my hands and run them thru my hair to seperate it into individual curls while my hair is still damp from the shower..I then tip my head upside down and shake my head back and forth to give it a free-stylish look...and to basically allow the hair to curl and fall where it wants to...Warning!!(doing this Method may give you a Headache) Just, what ever you do..Do Not Cut Anything!! I think the main focus with curly hair is..and from what I've seen in pictures..is to achieve the same length all the way around...I really regret that I did cut my hair short above the ears..It's going to take about another two month's before I'm able to do anything with it.. Well, good luck and keep us informed on how things are going with your hair..
Later,
Marc
Great posts, guys. I too have very curly hair and am trying to grow it out. It has been frustrating, but I'm beginning to get compliments on the curl and how luxurious it looks. As for styling ideas, I found a new (?) product by Salon Selectives called "loosely define styling crème" which is somewhat less stiff holding than gel but with more control than mousse. What I like about it is that it allows the curls to show, without a stiff look.
I apply a gummi bear sized drop, massage it through the damp hair, then brush it back from my forehead with a wide toothed comb or brush, then give it a quick shake to loosen up the curl. One of these days I'll see about uploading a pic so you can see how it looks.
