My hair seems to do well with just a quick pat-down from the towel to remove excess moisture and then I let it air-dry. I work second shift, though, so I have plenty of time in the mornings.

I have the same problem.well,I've decided to let my hair airdry today, see if it looks better.also,I'm gonna do a hot-oil treatment one of thesse days(take olive oil and warm it up,that's it.then apply it to my hair, then shampoo)
well, now that my hair is dry,it seems a lot more curlier than it does than when i blow dry it...sometimes I like the curlier look, sometimes the straighter one.but I have a lot more frizz.:((
I rinse the conditioner out from back to front so when I'm done, my hair is hanging over my face. Then I put the towel on the back of my head, pull it around the hair hanging down, twist it fairly tight, and pull the twist up and over (just like the ladies have done for so long). Leave it like this for a few minutes, and it'll absorb most of the water without rubbing. I find it works great! ;)
I do a gentle towel dry, patting and GENTLE rubbing, to smooth out (along with GENTLE combing with wide tooth comb to get it fairly even, so that it will dry fairly smooth), so that hair is still very damp but not dripping, then air dry the rest of the way. (If I don't comb while hair is still damp it is more tangled when dry) Hope this helps.

Definitely air-dry. I pretty do the same as previous posters and towel-pat (or else your hair drips all over the place) and then let it dry...takes a while but the end result will be better long term quality.
Usually I rub it gently with a towel - but usually only so it doesn't drip so much. THen I just put it in a ponytail and leave it to dry - this I do because if I leavy it loose it will get a bit frizzy.
I squeeze my dreads while I'm still standing in the shower, then wrap a towel around my head, and let it sit while I finish drying the rest of me.
After that I take the towel off, squeeze a couple more times, wring the excess out, and do some head banging. Then I just make sure to spend some time out in the sun that day, lol.
Suddenly it's no wonder why I only wash my hair once every week to two weeks, haha.

Since I'm a student and have little time most mornings, I blow dry my hair after gently towel drying my hair. I'm really going to have to get a new hair dryer, since mine is a heat-only type, and can be quite damaging from what I've heard (I haven't seen any damage, but I don't want to risk it). However, over my Christmas break, I was able to gently towel dry and let it air dry all the way. It was wonderful and my hair looked and felt great. So hopefully, I'll pick one up some time that has a cool air setting.
