Hey everybody... I find myself in an interesting position. I myself have long hair, but most (if not all) guys I with long hair... well, they generally do not dress "sharp" it's usually just earthy "granola" type clothes, or like a metal style with a leather jacket etc. I usually dress in slacks and a sportsjacket, and part my long hair on the side, with the left side slicked back, and the right side loose. It's kind of a wierd style, but it looks 'clean' and keeps some hair out of my eyes when I want to. Anyway, Am I the only one with this style? I have been trying to find pictures of other men with long hair, so I could get some fashion ideas from them, but honestly none of the other styles would suit me... Oh well, I'm sure I sound like a snob ... But after looking at this site and all of the pictures I was really suprised not to see more well dressed men with groomed long hair... Here is my style btw...
Your image is so small in the picture I can't really make out your hair style. Did you check out the old gallery pictures? There were a couple there that were "clean", as you put it. I'd also like to mention that I've seen more men with "clean" long styles in person than on the internet. I think these people generally don't have much motivation to get their picture on the net. This is just a guess.
Maybe this pic is a little better...
You are probably right... I didin't even think about that.. I have also, seen more well dressed styled long hair guys in person than on the net.. Anyway, it's cool when you see people that can make long hair on a guy look dignified or "clean" without being the cliche headbanger...

That one's much better. Here's one that's one of the nicest hair styles on a man I have ever seen. Sorry about the poor picture quality.
Yeah, WOW! Now that is MAINTENANCE! Very cool style.. I don't know if I could get away with that one, though..

Well, this isn't my best pic, but here's one of me wearing my wedding outfit (that's a black velvet tail coat and an ivory "shirt" with lace ruffles down the front and on the cuffs (the "shirt" was an altered design from a pattern for a women's blouse my wife and I found in a pattern book while looking for suitable Victorian-style designs to use to make my outfit. We couldn't find any lacey shirts for men, so we ripped off a feminine pattern).
Unfortunately, the pic is too dark to see my hair really well, but you can get a pretty good idea of how long it is.
Hi Aaron,
I drive a truck (18 wheeler) for a living, and see a lot of interesting things to say the least, but from your message here, I guess that one of us is living in a bubble. I havn't seen a lot of these "granola" types you are refering to.
It seems that the few "granola types" that I have seen were in Chicago,Los Angeles & New York City. Some of the sharpest long haired guys that I have seen, were in Milwaukee, Denver & Sacramento.
I am sorry that I don't have a scanner to put my picture on here. My hair is down to the small in my back, in a sprial perm, and washed daily (I am into renaissance faires). When I am at work, I wear my company's shirt & blue jeans. But I am probably a "granola" type to you, as I don't wear a suit coat, a double knit shirt & dress pants, these are probably functional for you, but not for me!
I am sorry that the rest of your "fellow longhaired guys" don't meat your standards! That's why we are all different looking in life, I am really glad that we don't all look the same, as my long red glory, would probably be some geeky super short-conservitive cut!!! Oh, Aaron, by the way, I will be 40 in March, so I guess that I am a '60's hippy holdover "granola type"!!
So Aaron, have a NICE Day, trying to decide if your "fellow longhaired dudes" are "granolas" or "sharpies"!!!!!!!
Hi... It's not that I have a problem with people not having my style... It's that I feel alone in that I don't really know any others with a similar style, and haven't seen any on the net. Since you get to see the whole country , I'm sure you have seen many more guys with this style.. But for me, I just feel like a misfit (which may be a good thing)... But it's like.. Sometimes, I feel like, The "Hippie" type of girls aren't attracted to me cuz I dress conservative, but then the conservative girls aren't cuz I have long hair ... Oh well, screw 'em... I like it.. And I really think other guys that have long hair (AND TAKE CARE OF IT!) are cool too.... Thanks for your post..

Aaron:
Do you have a pic of the back of your hair? From what I can see in this picture, your hair looks great.

Aaron (and everyone),
I've been on and-off reading this discussion group for a few months, and finally getting around to posting - I may introduce myself more fully in the near future, perhaps by submitting a collection of photos... my gf has quite a bit of background in photography, and we've been discussing the possibility of artistic semi-nudes which show off my hair - which is copper-red and well past my waist (root to tip about 3 1/2 ft).
Anyways, I do relate to this particular issue: women's reaction. It seems that the presumption upon seeing a man with hair my length is either that I'm a slob that never bothers getting a haircut (hippie?) or completely vain and obsessed with great hair (sharpie? odd reference, since to me that means a member of Skin-Heads Against Racial Prejudice - LOL)
However, my personal scene tends to be more towards fetish clubs, etc, at which point my hair becomes more a focus... however, as much as I often like looking my best, growing my hair long is the easiest haircut I've ever had - I don't get split ends, I don't get hair cuts, I don't colour, or perm, etc... So most women I encounter (even long-haired) think I'm completely full of myself ... the only people who seem to understand my desire to 1) grow my hair as long as I can and 2) put very little effort into it, are other long-haired men (which sometimes works out, being slightly bi).
anyways, the point of this ramble/babble is first to give you one of the compliments you said you haven't gotten in a bit - it looks good. and second, where's the middle ground? I don't own a single business suit or birkenstock...

How about this one?
i think he looks great, but the picture doesn't show how long his hair is!
YEAH! Cool style!
Hey your not alone! I style my hair the same way! I brush it to the right side and slick back the left side. I don't do this all the time cause it takes some time to do, but when I go out I get dressed up in slacks and a vest and style my hair and I think it looks great! The women seem to like it also. It set's off the slacker long hair stereotype I always get from people. When it's styled they don't know what to think!
Hey, Jared...
It's funny, because what you descibred is EXACTLY my style too! I like to get dressed up and go out dressed in slacks.. usually a dress jacket.. Nice shoes, clean shaven. I usually slick (cement) the left side back with a good amount of Aqua-net extra super hold... and then comb the right side down straight. What has been the response from people (girls?).. about your style.. I loved your comment about "they don't know what to think!" that is SO dead on.. They can't label you hippy, headbanger, or yuppie.. it's fun.. But latley so many of my friends are going baldie.. I have the temptation to cut.. I haven't had any 'nice hair' compliments in a LONG time...

What's that big triangle on the upper left of the picture?
I think it might be an attempt to make the pic look more "stylish". It worked for me.
Actually, it is because the pic was taken with the camera tilted.. So I rotated it in photoshop, so the upper left and lower right corners are cut off...
hey i think you look great combining slacks and long hair, i had never noticed that it looked so good. The onlu comment i would like to say is why do you put your hair on one said. i think you should let it all fall over your back or on your shoulders. try it, i'm sure you'll receive many compliments!!
