Hi,
I have heard somewhere that Omega 3 fish oil is good if you're growing your hair. Is that true? Any ideas?
Thanks
Shyam
I have been taking Omega 3 in the form of Flax Seed Oil for over two years. I suppose it is heart healthy, but I can't really tell if it makes a difference regarding my hair. I still believe that Knox Gelatine is the best single supplement for hair and nails, although I'm not really into the nail thing. Gelatine definitely makes my nails grow stronger and more quickly, therefore, I feel it is very likely to have the same effect on my hair.

Hi Jeffrey, I saw your reference to Know's gelatin in a post below, and have started putting some into my morning orange juice. I wonder where you first heard about this? (Do you just stir the Knox's right into your juice or do you dissolve it in warm water and then stir into juice?) Thanks for any pointers.

Hi there David! I hope the beard is coming along well.
Knox makes a form of gelatin that will not gel and it is made to be put in juice, etc. It is sold at Walgreens pharmacy and other such places. It is called |Knox for nails|.
Gelatin is not a very good source of protein and for the most part there really isn't anything very special about it. I realize that the subject of gelatin for nails and hair is a very controversial one, but I firmly believe that it strengthens the nails and may make the hair grow faster and perhaps even stronger, eg; less likely to break, etc. When I take gelatin for about a month I have to start trimming my nails more often and that is a fact(this could be proven scientifically). There is no other supplement that I take that has such a significant effect. I guess I'm a little different than most, because, I just open the package and drink it down with Soy milk. I just take the regular gelatin. My Grandmother is the first person that I ever heard mention gelatin as a hair and nail supplement. Perhaps it is just an old Southern myth, but some myths do have some credibility attached to them. Knox has made such claims for over 100 years. It certainly isn't a miracle product, but I do think that it helps a little. Well, I better get to bed. I'll probably have some ice and snow to deal with tomorrow in Texas.

My mother, back in the 60's always claimed that Knox gelatin was great for nails. It stands to reason that whats' good for the nails is good for the hair.

If your body suffers from lack of natural body oils, you should consume more oils in your diet. I personally take Omega 3 gel capsules rather than pure oil. 2-3 capsules a day helps keep my scalp well moisturized.
although now i'm looking into using mineral oil for oil treatments so that my hair will look shinier. lol
Well i've head that it's supposed to be good for the hair, and that lack of Omega-3 may cause hairloss in some cases.
I take them everyday.
It is good for your hair, and especially for your heart and circulatory system; loaded with anti-oxidants.
The Omega 3's derived from fish is much better for you than the plant derived oils; there is some controversy over whether or not the plant derived oils have the same benefits.
Two to three servings of fish per week will supply you with all of the Omega 3 oils needed without additional supplements.

I'd not heard that but it's good for my creaking old bones!
