This one was posted over at the Long Hair Community today:
At last some common sense - doubt we shall see it in many places though - bigots abound.
Good for him...the school district's "old" policy served no useful purpose. Glad it's gone.
Its a Great Victory to stand up to what you believe in !
Amazing this day in age when A kid would not be able to play basketball due to his hair length. Glad this one got rescended.
HELL YES!
I watched the video and was in awe of the whole hair peace thing, love it, and I just wish society could have such an awsome attitude towards long hair.
I loved seeing the superintendent's response when the reporter asked if it was fair that girls could have long hair and play basketball (among other sports). It's nice that such rules (which should never have been in the first place) are being thrown out.
I am so glad that this young man stood up for himself to the school board itself..........and won! Sometimes the only way to accomplish something is to go to the top and not mess around with the "nibby-minded."
His fellow players probally picked on him about his hair, but probally now have respect for him, he was a man about and would not back down. Coaches wish they had players like this who would not back down for nothing.
I seriously doubt that it was his fellow players. It was a "school policy" that was being enforced. In any case, he won. I think that this is part of a much larger trend--we will see.
No it was not his pears that wanted him to get his haircut but the school, reread my post.
In today's society no matter how wrong you are, if you stand up to something and you win, you get respect. That is what I was refferring to. NEVER EVER BACK DOWN FOR ANYBODY should be today's generation's attitude.
Thanks for this interesting story!
Finally a proof, that - sometimes - engagement is actually paying off....
I have deep respect for this boy and his success in this fight.
best regards
Victor and I chatted about this case when it first appeared in the media....
California law prohibits discrimination against longhaired students in public schools. In digging around in media reports we found out the boy's father is an attorney and is well-connected to members of the school board. Rather than his squishing this knat with an immediate legal swat, he chose to let junior himself carry the controversy onward while it grew, so junior could then make a name for himself by taking on the actually-friendly school board himself. The whole affair will look great on junior's college applications; however it was not in reality an adversarial confrontation, and it will carry no legal precedent of particular benefit to longhaired men.

Yes, I saw that over at the LHC. I thought it was AWESOME! Eventually, society's prejudices against long hair on guys will break down, and we will see a LOT more guys with long hair, hopefully, even in those jobs we never see long hair now. (Banking, lawyers, real estate etc.) (Although there may be long haired guys in these careers, I have never seen them)
