I just thought I would post a quick beard update, a few people have wanted me to post a beard picture. I'm 10 days into this new project, the FIRST time I have ever had a beard, so this is TOTALLY unexplored territory! I have to say it's a different look, but the vibes from family, co-workers have been positive so far, with a few VERY funny remarks. I DO look a little wild, lol! I think I will keep it, but have still not decided what type of beard is best for me, will let it grow and fill in more first before shaping.
Here's the 10 days of growth
< img src=" http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q97/DavidN_04/beard070122.jpg">
I also experimented with a centre part, I have always parted on side, so this is new, didn't really comb it all that much, so it's a little messy after just beimg side parted. As my hair isn't that thick I don't know how well I can pull off a centre part. (It also seems longer on one side than other)
< img src="http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q97/DavidN_04/centre070122.jpg">
I will probably stick with the side part, possibly a bit higher than I have been wearing it.
Lookin great Dave! Yeah i think a side part actually looks better on you, but it's always funny to experiment a little bit, and the beard is coming along nicely too, i would like to have a beard too but i cant seem to grow once, it's not thick enough, not yet anyway, after all i'm only 18:)
Simon
Hi Simon, thanks for the compliments. Don't worry, as you get older, you will find it easier to grow a beard.
As for the centre part, I admit it's a sloppy attempt, I had just had my hair parted on the side and attempted to bring to the centre, the hair, when dry, does fight a bit to be changed. It might look better if I parted down the middle right after washing, then it might fall into place better. My main focus here was the beard anyway, I just decided to throw the middle part picture in for fun.
David
The beard is coming along nicely. As the individual hairs grow, it will appear thicker.
As for the centre part, it doesn't look bad to me. I think the hair on your right side appears to be shorter because there is a curl at the end. I've had sections appear shorter than others because of waves and/or curls.
Thanks for the encouragement. It's probably a little early to be expecting much from the beard after only 10 days, I'm just happy it's not all gray lol!
As for the centre part, this was actually a rather sloppy attempt, as I had just had the hair parted on the side and shifted it over, my main focus here was the beard anyway. I think I might have a more successful attempt if I washed the hair, parted in the middle, and let it dry from that state.
All the best,
David
The beard looks great David! I don't like long beards but I think a short one on you adds a lot of character to your face.
To be honest, I like the center part better. I think it not only looks better but also makes your hair appear thicker and your hairline lower. It covers any minor recession on both sides rather than just the one that the side part covers.
Thanks Jason, for the encouragement! I'm actually pretty happy with my beard after only 10 days, my bowling league was quite impressed last night with how far I've come. A friend I met up with for lunch today nearly had a heart attack today, should have warned her ahead of time lol!--but she actually accepted it after a short time.
The centre part, I admit, was a sloppy attempt, attempting immediately after side parting with dry hair, the hair fought a bit to be changed. (My main focus here was on the beard anyway) I'll probably try again, this time, I'll wash first, part in the middle, then let it dry from that state to see how it comes out.
All the best,
David
The beard looks really great on you David and you it does add another layer of character to you're features. I myself don't do beards personally but appreciate seeing them on other people and your's is clearly the beginning of something really good and it does cover any minor recession on the temples which I think is looking very good anyway as you can't really make it out too clearly. Keep the fuzz growing strong!!!
Thanks a lot for the encouragement! I am kind of liking the beard and will definitely keep it for now, I will let it fill in before deciding on a final shape.
As for the centre part, I will make a (better) attempt with wet hair and decide from there.
All the best,
Dacid
Hello David !
It's really nice even if it's not very long but i think you are going to have an awesome beard when it will get longer !
i wish i could grow a beard too but im f*** to young ^^
keep it growing man :)
My hair Journal
Hi there, Angel.
Thanks so much for the kind words. After 10 days, I can't expect too much, but I am looking forward to seeing how it shapes up as it fills in (hopefully not too much grey, lol!), then I will decide how to shape it.
Keep it growing,
David
I think you are going to end up with a decently thick beard. If you are going to go with a full beard, you might could go ahead and shave a neat neck line to enhance the appearance while it is growing. I shave where the neck creases into the jaw area, but you may decide different. It's very easy to do, just tilt your head back in front of the mirror so you can get it even.
Thanks so much, Bragi, for the encouragement, from a real beard veteran like yourself. I have always been impressed with the thickness of your beard, even below the lips and on the sides, where many guys have thinner patches. I haven't decided on a final shape yet, just letting it thicken up for now. I have been shaving the lowest parts of the neck.
All the best,
David
hey Dave,
I was actually anticipating your beard update myself,I'd have to say it is looking great!!!If only I could grow a beard that fast and that quick..lol!!It's definitely a keeper.grow it out a bit more to see what length suits you best (for like a month or 2).
about the center part,meh..I'll be honest...I don't think it suits you.the side part suits you much better, because the center part makes your hair look "flatter" IMO.of course, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try a center part in the future-maybe it's a bad day to try a center part.I think you should let the hair dry first and then do the parting,it'll make the hair appear less flatter IMO
Thanks Jacob!
I'm kind of liking the beard myself, and am quite happy with the rapid growth, I plan to let it fill in and decide from there what shape it will take,
The centre part attempt was a very sloppy one, as the emphasis in this update was on the beard. I had just taken the beard picture with the side part and immediately attempted to shift the part to the middle with dry hair, not altogether successfully (I find it hard to style when dry). I may try again with wet hair (I can shape my hair better when wet), and after drying, see how it looks. I'm getting a fairly even split of people preferring one over the other.
Looking forwatd to your next update!
David
You look a lot better with a side part=)
and nice beard to. =)
a.
Thanks Aleksander, for the beard compliment! I am a bit inclined to stick with the side part, but as the picture was a VERY sloppy attempt, I am going to make another, better, attempt (starting from wet hair), before totally ruling out a centre part.
Keep it growing,
David
David,
I'm glad you're getting positive feedback from you friends and family about the beard. I, of course, have no personal experience in the matter, but you seem to have put on quite a bit of growth in just 10 days. It looks great, and I'm sure that another ten days will only make it better.
Mouse
Thanks for the kind words, Mouse. Actually, I am totally new to this beard adventure myself, it will be most interesting to see how it turns out.
All the best,
David
It was a moderator test and nothing personal 2 u David. & it will be intersting 2 see how it turns out.
Now if you can get a little dry ice in a flask, point your eyes in different directions, and manage an evil grin you can have an awful lot of fun at parties!
Personally I like the center (centre for all you purists) part best, as it tends to hide my slightly receding hairline at the temples. I notice your hairline is similar to mine, just a suggestion.
Thanks for the laugh and the suggestion, George! I DO look the part of the mad scientist lol!
The part is actually an experiment changing from side to middle using dry hair. I will try again, a better effort hopefully, with wet hair, drying afterwards, hopefully it will be more successful.
All rhe best,
David
David, I think you wear both the side and center parts well.
The beard is looking good so far. It will look way better once it gets longer.
Enjoy the new journey!
- Oren
Thanks Oren, for the kind words! I have a LOOONGGG ways to go to reach the magnificence of your beard, I'm just enjoying my current journey to see where it takes me.
All the best, keep both growing,
David
Hi David,
I think the beard accents your face nicely. It'll look beautiful at full growth!
I used to part my hair in the center, when I had long hair in the 90's. I think it made my head look longer, but I don't have a descent picture to reflect back on.
I'll try it again on my next update, when ever that is.
Take care and keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks Bruce, it's certainly a new experience for me, as this is my first ever beard!
As for the centre part, this was a poor attempt, the hair didn't co-operate when I went from side to middle with dry hair. I plan to give it another try with wet hair and allowing to dry, to see how that turns out.
All the best,
David
It is off to a good start, and should look good when it reaches an inch long or more. A beard will hide wrinkles and make you look younger.
Absalom
Thanks Absalom, anything to make me look younger is definitely in my book, lol! I still haven't decided on a final length or shape, just letting it fill in for now.
Keep it growing,
David
Your beard is coming in good and thick! A blessing indeed! You should be able to trim it to have whatever shape you want, in your endeavor to minimize the "long vertical" look.
As for how you part your hair, both ways look fine, but parting in the center is the natural way for long hair because that is what gravity wants. The heavier your mane grows, the more you'll find it fighting to part in the center. I'd say "go for the center" unless there's a reason to favor parting on the side, because a center part is natural. After bouts with rain or wind, you're more apt to find your center part to still be there.
Bill
Thanks so much, Bill, for the words of encouragment! Those words from a beard veteran like yourself are HUGE praise, I had no idea how thick my beard would be, as I've never had one, I'm definitely encouraged by the growth so far.
I will definitely have another go at the middle part, the first attempt wasn't 100% successful but I will try again with wet hair.
Keep it growing,
David
It says click on a topic to begin a search.
Hi Absalom, I made a mistake first time I posted, I put in a space which caused the pictures not to be displayed.
I reposted when I realized I had made a mistake, under the thread "try again, one too many spaces". This one has the pictures, and is the thread to which most guys have been replying.
All the best,
David
thats a kickass beard man!
Thanks for the encouragement! I definitely plan to keep it growing.
All the best,
David
The beard is coming along quite well! The center part doesn't look bad either, but I'd say a side part suits you better but that's just my opinion. Keep it growing!
-Mihnea
Thanks Mihnea!
I plan to grow the beard long enough for it to fill in, then will decide on a shape.
The centre part was a sloppy attempt (working with dry hair immediately after a side part), I will try again, parting the hair when wet, allowing to dry, and see how it looks. I will then decide if I will make the switch.
All the best,
David
Looks like a good start to a full beard, has it started itching yet? If it does, don't scratch.. Lol. The itching wont last long though. My vote is for the center part, but both look great.
Later,
Chris
Hi Chris, thanks for the beard compliment! So far, I haven't had any itching problems. maybe I'm lucky at this point in time, lol!
I'll probably make a better attempt at a centre part from wet hair and see if it turns out better. The one in the picture was using dry hair after previously being side parted, the hair fought a bit to be changed, hence it was not totally successful. I still haven't ruled out a centre part.
All the best,
David
Well, first of all David, I think the centre part looks best, and your hair is longer than I expected.
The beard is coming on, just leave it a month before making any decisions on whether to keep it or not. I would think about shaving your neck or sculpting it (if that is your idea) now as it will look more purposeful rather than the 'just not got round to shaving' look.
Mine didn't look that good after 10 days!
Thanks, Dave, for the encouragement! I definitely plan to keep it, I will let it fill in and then decide on the best shape. I do plan to keep the neck trimmed while growing.
The centre part was a poor attempt from dry hair, I will try again using wet hair to see if it comes out better. It is true that my hair is growing faster lately.
All the best, and keep it growing,
David
