Well I did it again, got it cut off to a short flat top and actually went to the barber I use to go to while I was in the Army Reserves. And the outcome is that I look like I'm back in the reserves. I've got to get a picture of this with my cell so the next time the bug hits to cut it I look at it and see how ridiculous this realy looks. Just thought I'd blow off some steam and vow once again to let it grow. Why does it seem so hard to leave it alone and not go to the extreme when I get it cut?
Only you can answer that. I TRUE Longhair does not do things like this.
Wow. How wonderfully supportive those words were (note the dripping sarcasm).
With posts like that, and others (see the posts about the lady with the extremely long hair), it's beginning to appear to me that a fair number of the members of this board are only supportive of what they feel is the proper way to grow one's hair. In other words, they're just as guilty of being intolerant of those that don't conform to their standard as the people they complain about.
I thought this place was about tolerance and support, but apparently that only works for those that fit in. Makes me wonder why I bother coming back to this site.
Jim
Hi Mr. Frodo (I love saying that, feel like Samwise Gamgee!),
To play the advocate, we are human and guilty (to risk the implications that go with that word!) of being human and reacting in certain ways. At times, our reactions are off the cuff, so to speak, and don't always reflect the inner feelings, and yet, sometimes they do. I would hate to beleive that there are those among us here who would not support anybody with his/her hair endeavors of whatever length he/she may so desire. If we don't do that, then as you stated, it is rather contradictory to the whole quest, as it were, peradventure, the "h" word (scathing, I know!). If one complains about this or that, sometimes, not always, but sometimes, it is a reflection of what the complainer does not like within himself and is oftentimes very telling. What you can't tolerate within manifests itself without in the form of intolerance, fear, and complaints, in some instances.
I have often heard that, "Tell me what you hate, and I'll tell you who you are." Whether or not it's always true is up for interpretation.
Maybe you bother coming here to post what you just posted. It is tremendoudly dangerous to subscribe to a single mode of thinking. There is nothing so refreshing, and yet painful at times, as to have one's belief system shaken up a little. By doing that, not only does it reinforce something worth keeping, but it helps clean out what's not worth keeping.
I think we have to be very careful sometimes not to make it seem like the pot is calling the kettle black. It's easy to point out someone else's problems and ignore your own. It's easy to give advice when you are doing well and safe. And it's easy to criticize without fear of reprisal. A fine line to walk really, one that demands a little thought at times.
As far as hair issues, there is little use in diving into that, but there are as many ways to to grow hair as there are hairs on the head. I for one can't forget for years I had short hair, then the bug bit to grow, but what really and truly makes that any better in a macro-sense? While I would never want to cut my hair now, I know moods and thoughts (for me at least) change like the wind. And who am I to say anybody shouldn't do anything they so please with their hair, just as I would not want anyone telling me the same. What's "TRUE" and what's not, well that is a pit of snakes too, but just about as clear as real or unreal or whatever depending on how you look at it. Some would say that there is the real, and then how one views it as a funtion of the mind, and then others, the variation of real. At any rate, the topic is moot. I can't for the life of me chide one who cuts his hair. It may make me sad, but that's me and not them.
I may have contradicted myself several times, but Oh, well!
Mr. Frodo, Thanks for your post.
Does this post belong on the "other board".
