The archive index is working again. The problem was that I was running out of memory on the server when rebuilding the index. I solved the problem by changing a couple of parameters. Here is a chart of the changes:

All words 3 letters or larger are indexedAll words 4 letters or larger are indexed
A word in 60% or more of the pages is not indexedA word in 20% or more of the pages is not indexed
The result of these changes is that some searches that returned results previously will not return results now.
