Today is 9month, 4days since my last haircut. Here are a few pics I just took.
Please note that I had my hair in a toque earlier (for sledding with my daughter) and have also started to experiment with parting my hair (in the attempt to help encourage the hair more downwards and less outwards). With these two happening at the same time, the hair is pushed a little more flatly on top than usual and the curls on top are a little less tightly curled than usual, too.
It feels like I am wearing a sweater on my head! LOL! The hair is soft and warm and rather wooly, now, and no two days have the same look. My hair is taking on a life of its own. Do you suppose the thick part will be hovering above the shoulders (rather than beside my ears) by Christmas?
Well, here's that middle-part:
And a close-up near the part:
And a close-up of the side curls:
Here I am pulling up a lock to show length without the curls:
And, finally, here I am pulling a lock down my face. It just gets to the tip of my nose:
Thanks for all the suport I've gotten over the months. There is no way I would have hair this long without the advice, encouragement and examples.
Cheers!
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hi there, Shawn,
Your hair just keeps getting better and better with every update, I can only imagine how great your manlocks will be a year from now. That's amazing progress for 9 months, it takes so much patience to grow curly hair. All the best to you and your lovely family.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks, DavidN.
I rally appreciate the ever-complimentive nature you've shown me. How's your beard coming in?

Hi again, Shawn, thanks for asking about the beard. The beard is filling in nicely, quite a bit thicker in the 5 days since my 10 day beard update. I think it will be a keeper. I am trimming the neckline as well as above the sideburns, I am planning a full, but not overly long, beard.
All the best,
David
Hi Shawn,
your (almost afroish) hair is looking superb, and, whatever it does, it suits you perfectly! Keep it growing, and it'll look even better. Plus, it's great to see how Sean and Eric (both at month 9 and a bit in need of support) can derive lots of encouragement from your experience (no, I'm not turning you into a "poster boy" ;-)
All the best!
Hans-Uwe
Danke, Hans-Uwe.
Ich habe das brief geschreibt weil Eric und Sean den Ruecken gebraucht.
Eric and Sean were my inspiration for posting a 9 month update. I know it is getting afroish and it is looking more like big hair than long hair at this point, but I am not deterred. I thought mybe hearing it from another at the same 9 month mark would encourage them a bit. While some of my colleagues and even (finally) it seems, my wife are accepting if not encouraging of my hair, others tell me it looks like I could be a clown's hair or that, since I have fine features (smallish nose, high cheekbones) that having big hair makes my face seem to disappear in contrast. I have selective hearing and I really only let sink in the words of encouragement I hear, ignoring the words I know are there to derail me. I have a vision of what my hair will be. I am not planning my hairstyle on the temporary state in which it is currently residing; I am planning my hairstyle a year in advance.
Thanks for the posting and compliments, Hans.

Hi Shawn,
I didn't know that you know German quite well - and yes, backing up someone or as we'd say "Strengthening the back for/of someone" (literal translation of "jemandem den Rücken stärken") is what we need from time to time, especially the new growers.
What else I'm saying: You're right in focussing on how you want to look a year from now, but nevertheless, the current look is great, too, (true in the case of Eric and Sean as well). As far as all that cr** about "facial proportions" goes, well, selective hearing IS a blessing. In any case, the current afroish look DOES fit your facial proportions, and the hair style(s) to come will fit even better.
All the best,
Hans-Uwe
Thanks, again, Hans. I have to believe I look good now, too, or it would be really hard to push through.
I appreciate your support. And if I'm ever again in BRD, I'll look you up. (I was last in Germany in 1997 for a band competetion near Fischach, in Bayern, where I stayed with the Rehberger family. A great trip. I'll have to take my daughter someday.

Hey , Shawn
That is what i call THICK!!CURLY!! hair :-)
Your hair is looking excellent. You have definitely made progress , Judging from your avatar pic. It is very hard to tell(at least for me) if it will be hovering above your shoulders by X-MAS. Curly hair is very unruly and unpredictable. I suppose it will keep gaining volume and by X-MAS it'll definitely be alot longer perhaps covering most of your neck. Well , Thanks for the update pictures , They were great! Good luck and hang in there!
`christopher
Thank you very much, Chris. It is rather crazy, but I really, really like it. Thanks for the kind words.

...and over the next several months you will notice dramatic changes. From now on every inch will show and make a big difference!
Congratulations! Soon it will be a whole year!
That is a very exciting thought for me! Thanks for posting!
Shawn
Wow! Is that EVER splendid-looking long hair in the making if there ever was. Just fabulous progress! And to think, only 9 months.
Stop it, I'm blushing.
But, seriously, I thank you for your comments.

Your hair looks great, Shawn, though I can see how it could cause some interesting mornings before work. :-) The texture is beautiful, and you've got wonderful, healthy shine.
And it certainly looks warm enough to keep some of the chill out!
Keep it growing!
Mouse
Hmm....they sure can. In fact, you've just inspired me to take a couple more pictures to start a thread on bed head!
(I will be expecting you to participate in it, too!)
Thanks for the compliments, Mouse.
Shawn
Ha, ha, ha! I could certainly take a picture or two to add! The biggest challenge will be cutting through the mental morning fog so I don't just go on autopilot and start showering. If I put the camera on the nightstand...
Mouse
Drats! You posted quick. I've already showered today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Mouse
Wow great curls! It's so thick which I'd never have and also I'm 8 and a half months of my progress and my bangs also reach the tip of my nose but my hair is really straight so you have great growth rate! :) It may get longer slowly because it's curly but you'll never have problems with volume.
Great hair!Keep on posting
It sure does grow fast.
Hard for me to tell, so I feel glad to hear it from others. Thanks.
Shawn
Hi Mr. Crow,
I am so glad that you have toughed it out so far. I know that you can continue. And, I predict that you will be well satisfied with what you have grown in about two years. You have so much to work with. Your hair is so thick and so tightly curled that you will be the envy and delight of all those other curly-haired brethren in years to come. If you have not seen Bodhi's picture in the directory of user, check it out. That is my prediction for you. Stay warm and keep it growing.
Bragi
Stay warm and keep it growing.
Will do, Bragi. Thanks for the coments!
Shawn
