Ok, I'll try to cover several responses to my recent post about political views in one:
I never claimed to be a hippie. I happen to have long hair, because I like it that way. To assume that I'm a hippy because I have long hair is just as much stereotyping as expecting that everyone that has a shaved head is a neo-Nazi. As far as being a right-winger, I've never claimed that title either. Your opinion of my political beliefs is up to you, but seeing as I don't recall expressing them on this board, I'm not sure where that comes from.

I never stated whether I agreed or disagreed with those subjects. All I was doing was pointing out that in my opinion much of the political commentary had nothing to do with the general subject matter on the board, and could be offensive to some people. I didn't post how I felt on those subjects because this isn't the proper forum for those subjects.
Actually, I am a Bears fan, if that matters. However discussing sports, while as off-topic as most politics, is not near as likely to bother anyone.

The only doubt is whether he lied or was mistaken, or simply beleived what he wanted to. There never was any doubt in my mind from the very beginning that he was wrong about both these things.
Ok, Alun, you really wanna go there?? Fine. I'll agree with you that one of the above happened. Did he lie about it, was he misled, or did he just fool himself?? I don't know. But what does it have to do with long hair??
Lieing to start a war is certainly more heinous than lieing about one's own sex life. The first can leave hundreds of thousands dead, whereas in the second scenario no-one actually dies.
Ok, so you want to bring Clinton into this? I wasn't planning on it but that's also fine. We don't know, and probably never will, whether GW lied or was just wrong, but we've got documented proof that Clinton did. He lied under oath to Congress, and he lied on camera to the American people. And he didn't do it for any grand purpose, he did it because he'd gotten caught abusing his position to cheat on his wife and boink an intern. If that's what you want in a leader, fine. Me, I'd like one with a little more integrity. Did we get that with GW?? Maybe not. But if we couldn't impeach Clinton for documented lies, I doubt they'd pull it off with GW.
No
In this case, I mostly agree with you. It probably wasn't a good idea. But if you stop and think about it, by now why we're involved there has become fairly irrelevant. We are there, and the only thing that's truly important now is what we're going to do from here. A lot of people seem to think we should pull out. My opinion is that we made the mess, we ought to clean it up. After WW2 the Allies occupied the defeated countries until properly functioning governments could be set up. I really don't see much difference here.
Yes
You're entitled to your opinion. I happen to think you're wrong. You want to change it, fine. Talk to Congress.
Not so. Many have long hair because they are hippies, which is associated with radical politics and smoking weed. OTOH, this is not actually a hippie board.
Ok, let me see if I can follow your logic. Because some members of this board chose to grow their hair because they're hippies, and because hippies are associated with radical politics and drugs, that makes those subjects relevant to having long hair?? And then you follow this statement by acknowledging that the board isn't a hippy board.
The point I am really making is that the best way to avoid poltitical discussion is not to start a political thread!
I wasn't trying to start anything. I made what I thought was a fairly polite request to leave politics out.
Common subjects on this board have been about members being upset by sterotyping and the demand for conformity. And yet I see it on this board all too often. Well, there's just a few too many hypocrites on this board for my tastes, so this will be the last time I'll be posting here. To Bill, my apologies. You've done a marvelous job with the technical side of running this board, and you've always been a voice of reason. As I said before, if anyone cares to discuss/dispute any of this off the board, feel free to drop me a line. My email is linked above.

p.s. Oren, please remove me from the user's list.
OOOH, OOOH, the *drama*!!
JeffL
P.S., I'm not being insensitive on purpose.
You could've just as easily addressed your concerns in private, with any one of the moderators. Or do you enjoy a bit of grand-standing? Come on, admit it, I know you do.
;)
Hey
Jim
Why on earth do you want to be removed for ?????
Oren can removed any mods can remove you if it urgent enough to do so & if you so desire to be removed !!!
Axel
That's a shame! I don't think just because there are some that disagree with your point of view, that you feel unwelcome and and should feel you need to leave. In any group, political or otherwise, not everyone will agree 100%. Would you abandon your political party if someone had a different view on the right to life? Or the environment? Capital punishment? Or how about length of hair? You see that it is the differences that make us all the same!
Take care,
Bruce
Why are some people on this board such drama queens? Sheesh.
*Rolls eyes**
Jim,
Your over reacting, I just think of all longhairs as hippies as I think of myself as such. All longhairs that I know seem to be in a separate class than most, what I mean by that is men that choose to grow their hair out seem to have more compassion and tolerance than those who don't. I meant nothing degrading with the "hippie" statement, maybe my mindset is stuck in the 60's.
As far as the "right winger" statement, that was a slam and I apologise for it. I generally feel that when others try to silence people then they disagree with what's been posted.
There is no need for you to leave this board, I will try to curtail my viewpoints and comments which are off topic. I never start those type of discussions, but when I see them it is hard to refrain from commenting on them.
I just feel very strongly against the current leadership of our country, some would say that is my problem, but unfortunately if their policies continue to go as they are it will be all of our problems worldwide.
That is my final rant about American policies, and just to stay on topic I feel like pulling my hair out because of these policies.
Chris
I'm sorry your leaving. Best wishes with everything.
I really hope you don't make this your final post.
My whole point could have been reduced to this - don't mention things and say you don't want to talk about them in the same breath. Perhaps I should have just said that, but I don't think it would have made the point. You could have just said you think politics is OT and left it at that, and I wouldn't even have posted to the thread, but you just had to go into more detail.
Long hair is commonly found on tree hugging ant-war hippies, FTW supporters, bikers and heavy metal fans. For this reason I don't think these subjects are entirely OT.
.
I want to laugh, but I am not even sure what I am looking at. Is that a couple of pancakes on a rabbit's head? (What is the symbolism or meaning?)
