I have been growing my hair out for sometime now and I really would like to dye a darker shade. Girls do it all the time and I love my hair just as much as them. What do you think?

Well Id never consider doing what you are asking about as dyes contain lots of chemicals that can harm your hair but if you love your hair so much why do you want to dye it for hair is better in its naturual colour !

A safer alternative to hair dye is henna/indigo. You may want to look into that.
I used to dye my hair and it really dried it out. It's really not worth it in the long run because of the damage, but an alternative is the henna dye if you really want to do it.
You have a great natural color though. Don't know why you'd want to abandon it. Best of luck nonetheless. =)

Forget about the possibility of damaging it (if just adding colour, how badly could one realyl fry it anyway?). I would suggest you do not dye it because:
A) Dyes, even the multi-tone dyes, or multiple hightlight-type dye jobs really aren't good at letting your hair's natural spectrum of colour variants shine through. Brown dyed hair is just brown. Real brown hair can have hints of copper, of chestnut, of gold hidden in the hair shaft and which only become visible from certain angles and with certain lighting conditions. One gives up that extra dimension of colour when dyeing.
B) Your hair colour is fantastic! It is blond, but also golden and sandy. I'd leave it if I were you.

Personally I'd just grow it longer and leave the colour be!!Anyway welcome and hope to see you as a regular.Mark
What about a semi-permanent dye? And where would you buy henna dye?
One reason I wish I was a white person is because whites can have a good variety of hair colors where any other race like Chinese is limited to either dark brown or black hair. I like blondes, because when wet it will appear kinda brown, and when dry it looks blonde, and when in sunlight it looks different. Its almost like color changing paint on a car...
Black hair seems to be just black... no color changes..
black hair doesn't get lighter in the sun????
I think you should keep it blonde my long haired friend. I sometimes want my hair to be a lighter shade, then come to realize that I am happy with what nature gave me. The choice is all up to you, man.
Be forewarned. Caveat. Most hair dyes involve using hydrogen peroxide as a fixative agent, and as the color fades, the hair has been bleached underneath. It is almost impossible to keep a constant color.
If you wish to color your hair, go to a full spectrum beauty supply store like Sally's and ask for colors which have no peroxide or amonia. These temp colors will fade after several weeks and multiple shampoos, and if you like them you can continue using them or changing shades, but underneath your hair has not been changed.
In addition there are hennas.
If you want to keep your long hair, avoid anything with peroxide, for you will very likely want in time to cut that off.

peroxides can do serious damage to the hair shaft... if your hair was shiny and managable before it will turn rough and harder to manage once bleached with peroxides. If your hair is already frizzy and prone to tangle, then DONT use peroxides because it will turn your hair into a mess of hairballs that must be cut off. This is especially true with dark hair because it must be bleached in order for it to take any color, and it looks fake when they do that.
I think the colour of your hair is awesome as it is, why not keep it the way it is. I would think seriously before dyeing it, as it can cause considerable damage, by drying out the hair.
All the best,
David
Best to use a temporary or semi-permanent colour to test it out first, because if you do not like a permanent colour, you will have to shave all of your hair off to get rid of it!#
I am a hairdresser by the way, so trust me :P
