Hey guys, I found your website.....and I need help. :( I am a young guy....23 actually...and i want to grow my hair out. I am starting the "awkward" stage I believe. I haven't had a haircut since end of November I believe...and I usually "need" it at least every 4 weeks...seriously my hair grows that fast. lol. But anyway I want it long...not super super long...but just enough to have length. I have not had it cut at all....I wash it everyday and condition with "Dove" conditioner. My hair is nice and soft when wet but when it dries...its a fuzz ball for most of the day. It is still very dry and straw-like. And as the day goes on...it gets weighed down. I guess from the sweat and oils?? I think I have an oily scalp and I have tried shampoos that treat that but to no avail. I need help! You guys all have awesome long hair...and I want to know what I am doing wrong. I hate my hair right now..I am trying to baby it...but it is way too dry no matter what conditioner I use and never 'sways' or is 'free-flowing'. It just stays in its nasty jumble. haha. I dont have a pic right now but in a couple days I should. Any advice would be well worth it. Thanks a lot guys. :)
Hey and welcome! Don't worry, you're not yet in the awkward stage
but you said your hair grew very quickly. I used to have a haircut every month too.
Now for the oily scalp. I have the exact problem but my hair never dries out. After I shampoo and condition (something leave-in also) it looks incredible (at least to me:D) and the next day looks like a rag. It gets oily very quickly. So, I think you shouldn't wash it every day cuz it will make the scalp produce more oil to cope with the drought. Try washing it every other day for a week, then the next week go for 2 days without washing it. And if you're as oily as me I recommend not to co-wash only cuz it maakes it really greasy and oily (I guess it would be wonderful for dry hair)
And don't worry... Mine used to look worse a few months ago and it gets better and better (still looks like a rag lol) but I don't get discouraged. I'm sure it will turn out great :P
*******Thanks for the advice. I guess I could have been more specific....but my hair seems to be just like yours. It will look great...and then it gets really dry...but as I go out thru the day....it gets oily. At the end of it all...it comes down to it being super thick and oily...unmanageable by all accounts. But again thanks for the awesome advice. Also how long did it take you to have your grow out? Mine grows fast...but I hate the growing part...lol. I can't spike it like I did when it was shorter cuz it would take way too much gel.....and I hate leaving it cuz it looks like crap. lol. Thanks.
Well actually mine is not long yet. I started at May so I'm yet not even 9 months of growing out. It's bearable for me cuz it's really straight. When I had it short I had it spiky as well but even without gel because as I said it is so straight it stood upwards naturally lol.
Btw, mine doesn't get thick when it's oily, it looks like a gas that has been mown incorrectly. I guess it gets sticky. So, don't worry and enjoy the growing out because think of how long it is and that probably never it will be lthat long cuz it gets longer. So it's great throghout the whole process ;)
-have showers in the evening, not the morning.
-don't shampoo it every day.
looking forward to seeing some pictures
***** Thanks for the advice donjuan...I do take my showers at night..when I get up in the morning...its a mess so I just wet it under my faucet in the tub and re-condition it.....and still doesnt help. I did buy some leave-in conditioner this weekend and see if that helps.... Thanks for the advice of shampoo....seems to be the overall consensus :) And trust me..pics soon hopefully :)
