Hey, guys. As you've probably noticed, I hardly post anymore. It's nothing to do with my hair; in fact, I love my hair more the longer it gets. I guess one reason I don't post as often is something that I believe Sorted pointed out once - when you get used to having long hair and the idea of there being a board just for us longhairs, the novelty wears off. Right now, my hair is simply a part of me, a fifth limb, as I think Polamalu once said. Cutting my hair would be like cutting something else off - what's up with that? I no longer see my hair as anything special; it's simply a natural part of me, and we don't often look at our arms or legs and think of them as anything special or forum-worthy. Of course, I still love having my hair; it's just not an issue all its own anymore; it's not a separate entity.
Anyway...here are a bunch of random pics of me. My bangs are like chin-length when curly and go to nearly my nipples when stretched.
I apologize if these pics take a while to load for some people; I tried to upload higher-quality (thus larger) images for once.
Oh, and heavy metal for life.
Haha, I look so drunk. And I don't even drink....
Contemplation. Tams (the hat) do that to you.
When my hair comes out of a ponytail/being tied up, it becomes a lot straighter; if I leave it tied up for a long time, it can become totally straight, as if I've straightened my hair with an iron.
I forgot to mention that the other reason I barely post is that, cliched as it sounds, I have a lot of work to do. This is my toughest semester at college so far.
A bit of a joke pic, but I had to show it. :P This is me in my yukata or summer kimono. The slippers are called zori, and the belt is an obi. I love clothing from other cultures, and I love Japanese culture, history, and mythology, so it was a must-buy. My roommate keeps calling me a geisha, lol. He should never have been allowed to see Memoirs of a Geisha.
If theres a dress called wan then you can wear the obi and the wan and you will become Obi Wan.... get a lightsaber for additional effect.
lol. May the force be with you.
Another example of how long my hair can appear when out of a ponytail. If only it was this long curly....
This is a better representation of my normal (unstretched) hair length. The back never seems to grow. :(
This is my favorite pic. I like thinking how different it would look without the hair, how differently people would see it. I mean, it's just hair, but it's more, at the same time.
great hair man, about how differently people would see it without the hair, is it just but when i see a long-hair walkin down the street i always think of them differently (personality-wise) even though i don't know them, compared to if i saw someone with short hair walking down the street, it's hard to explain it properly lol
Thanks, man. I get what you're saying. It doesn't always turn out true (there are close-minded longhaired jerks out there), but yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
Peace
WOW! That's a really impressive head of shiny curls you have growing there! You are certainly creative with the multitude of ways you wear your hair. It's interesting your hair gets so much straighter after a ponytail, I don't have the same effect myself. You have come a LONG ways from your avatar photo, I think you're overdue for an avatar change! I am really looking forward to what another two years of growth will bring.
Keep it growing,
David
Thank you! Yes, curly hair behaves in quite the opposite way of straight hair sometimes. Sometimes the ponytail thing is actually pretty annoying, as I can see the length I don't have (when my hair is unstretched), and I know that it's sort of like an illusion. Nevertheless, my hair HAS grown since my avatar, and I really need to fix that, lol. I'm hoping and praying and praying some more that another two years will bring me to mid-back or even waist-length.
Oh, I plan to. :P
That is some of the best curly hair I've seen in a long time. I can definitely understand your frustrations with school, as I'm pretty much in the same boat right now. Nevertheless, keep it growing! =)
-James
Thanks a lot, man. Appreciated. I think a tough semester is one of the reasons my hair has become such a natural part of me, as I don't have the time to fuss about my hair anymore. I just treat it like another part of my body.
Peace
Your hair looks amazing, man.
I have to agree with you on the whole "novelty wearing off" thing. In a few weeks I'll be hitting 18 months, and my hair has just become a normal part of me. I don't really think about my hair as much I did a year or so ago, which is really nice. It makes the months fly by quicker =P Plus, like you, I am loaded down this semester with college classes.
Your hair looks phenomenal, and I hope you keep it growing for a long time. It can only get better. Although my hair may not be as curly as yours, it's really nice to see that even curly ringlet type hair such as your falls victim to gravity eventually =)
Thanks!
Yes, exactly. It also makes negative hair comments seem absolutely absurd, as if someone had suggested you hack off your leg because they don't like how it looks. I don't really get negative comments from anyone but my parents (and even that's just occasional), which seems to "confirm" that my hair is now a natural part of me that people have come to expect and accept.
Thanks again, and I really hope the victimization continues (were this written in a police forum, it might come across differently, lol)!
Peace, man.
Dude you are real inspiration. Not only do you have awesome hair but you always express yourself eloquently.
I've noticed that you don't post as much. I guess I understand what you're saying about taking long hair for granted but, you know, it does keep growing. At least until you hit terminal, this will always mean new territory to explore. Granted, the inches added after the awkward stage ends aren't perhaps as meaningful, at least in a practical sense, but they're still exciting. I hope you stick around as much as you can as I know we're all interested in watching your continuing progress.
Awesome pics. Your hair's health and added length are very apparent. I believe gravity is already exerting more of a pronounced influence on it.
LOL...I agree, heavy metal for life!
Thank you very much, and no, that's not an Elvis impression.
I agree, but I still wish the territories took less time to reach. I feel like I've been trudging around the same hair area for months. But when I look at my avatar, I see that a significant change has definitely occurred. It's a waiting game, a patience game, and, as with many such "games," the ulitmate rewards are more than worth the wait. I guess that's one thing that keeps me going, and I'll probably miss these curious days when/if my hair reaches its desired length.
Thanks again!
*headbangs*
Peace, dude.
Your hair is just so cool looking that is is ridiculous.
I bet you were expecting for me to say, "Ah, grasshopper, it verily said that he who has hair such as yours must be counted among the most fortunate and blessed indeed - that certain one loved most by the Aesir, for those who have tholed the journey and borne so great a travail as he who has curly hair so very tight and shiney surely and without doubt is one whose parching thirst has been slaked with the sweet taste of honesty to his inner self."
There's surely no hope in rivaling you for "Best Curls of 2007!"
I hope all is well and thanks for the update. Though I have less volume and tightness of curl, you are no less an inspiration!
LOL. The other Bragi would smile at this.
Actually, yes, I was. :P haha. The grasshopper/kimono connection is fun. And with the mention of the Aesir, Bragi (the aforementioned other) must REALLY be smiling now.
All these compliments will give me an ego problem one day, lol. Thank you! (But not for the ego problem.)
Yes, all is fairly well, thank you. I would beg to differ on the tightness of curl, however, at least in reference to your back curls/ringlets. They look very similar to mine, and I think it's possible that your hair, were it to undergo the same shampoo-less, finger-combing-only regime, would look a lot like mine. But I could be wrong. If I am, be thankful, for less tightness equals more length, and with our curls, we need all the length we can get.
Peace, friend.
Well, FA, as one of the first members on this forum that I received an email from --full of curl care wisdom, I might add -- I have always looked ahead to your growth as being somewhat indicative of my future hair. If my hair turns out anything like yours in another year and a half or so, I will be VERY pleased.
Thanks for the post and thanks for the past postings and advice.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
PS. I would love to see a timeline photo of your growth to see what the benchmarks would be for the curls to start coming down. (Just a hint)
(http://www.myspace.com/manlocks) - Mr.Crow's photo archive of growing hair
Heh. Though my PHd in prophecy is still being laminated, I can safely guess that your hair will be very similar to mine in about a year and a half. Your hair is very reminiscent of mine at that stage of growth, albeit healthier; I didn't discover my preferred method of haircare until months later, and my hair was abused during that time. So, your hair will likely look better than mine at this stage.
You're very welcome.
hehe. I actually don't really have any old pictures of me on my college laptop (well, my only laptop); the oldest pictures still show hair long enough for a ponytail. I was actually embarrassed by old pictures and deleted them, although they may still exist somewhere in cyberspace or, more reliably, on my home computer. I probably should've kept the pics for posterity (or just for kicks), but alas, they've gone the way of the dinosaurs. Some girls would say they've gone the way of the knights.
If you reallllly want to see a timeline of sorts, I could fish around for you, but I can tell you that until your hair hangs down to your nose and below, the hair at the side of your head may look disproportionate and puffy. It takes a long time to achieve anything, but after a year, things start to improve. My lowest back curls began brushing my shoulders after about a year, I think.
Peace
You have absolutely gorgeous hair! The curls are so full of shine and life.
Congrats on such a wonderful acomplishment...and on becoming one with your hair.
Mouse
Thanks a lot! What a wonderful compliment. If only my parents would say anything similar. :P
Peace.
Amen to that!!1 \m/
Well , Your hair looks great dude. It looks very healthy and shiny. It seems to suit you very well. You look like a natural.
It is great that you are honest and always post what you feel , I really like that. Thanks for sharing those update pics!
Wishing you joy in the journey,
Chris
Haha, I love the devil horns. Nice.
Thank you very much, man. I wish you much joy (and metal) in your journey as well.
Peace, man.
at how perfect those curls are. Those hanging ringlets are superb. There is only one other guy here with ringlets like yours. (Bodhi are you out there?) Keep growing your hair, the best is yet to come.
Absalom
(Bodhi are you out there?)
Yes Absalom, I am still here. I've been checking the board out alot more lately and will be posting some progress pics real soon( it was one of my New year's resolutions). I still haven't cut it and am still going for terminal length. I hope you are doing well. And to Fallen Angels, your hair is looking fantastic, thanks so much for posting the pics...Bodhi
Hey Bodhi, I am doing well. Your hair must be really long by now. Hanging ringlets are the most desirable curls to have. It is good that you have decided to grow it to terminal length. Take care.
Absalom
Thanks to both Bodhi and Absalom. Both of you have been major inspirations.
Peace
Your hair looks to be in excellent condition, among ALL of your updated pictures. Really looking great.
As for the hair appearing shorter at the back, I know that can be tough and annoying, but just think of it this way: it takes many years for muscles to grow bigger through bodybuilding - the same with your hair.
On that score I loved the way you put it as regards to why you don't post as often anymore...
Your reasoning is different to that of Sorted however as he simply got tired of the board and how it works, such as new members coming in and asking the 'same' questions etc. whereas you have a much more profound reasoning, one that I partially agree with myself to an extent (that said, it plays no part in why I have been posting less myself recently).
Anyway, long story short: looking great!
I couldn't agree more :)
Much appreciated. Thanks. :)
Yes. I see what you mean. Nice analogy.
lol! Thanks again, and mea culpa about mentioning Sorted. I had a feeling his reasoning was a bit different, but I figured, "what the hey." I guess I DO get tired sometimes of seeing the same questions over and over, but knowing that you've helped someone by answering them makes up for it. I'd hate if I'd asked something "back in the day" and gotten brushed off because nobody felt like answering the same dumb question again. Something vaguely karmic about it all.
Peace.
Thanks for the update. Your hair looks great! :-)
And yes, for so many, once they have achieved their goal of what they desire for themselves, the board may no longer be a priority as they have "arrived." (Kind of like they have graduated.)
Others stay on that have been through it all to help the newbies get off to a good start with encourgement and hair tips and just enjoy the fellowship of sharing experiences with other long haires.
Thanks. It certainly means something come from a longhair veteran like yourself.
Yes, although I still have a way to go before I get my diploma.
I understand this, and that's why I never plan to leave entirely. Rather, I'll be here when I can. It would be a crime to forget that I was once a newbie like a lot of first-time posters on the board and not to give the help to them that you guys gave to me. However, I can never help all of them. I can only do what I can in whatever situation I am.
Peace
Great to hear from you again dude. Your hair is superb, and whatever style you implement it always works really well.
The curls, shine and overall body is simply stunning.
Rock on !!! and take care!
Thanks, dude! Really appreciated.
Peace
Nice pics, you look great! I think you've reached the point where you no longer look like you're growing out your hair but you've grown out your hair. (Maybe a subtle difference in phrasing but a big difference in the way you live your life.) Your hair, beard, & tam gives the world a better idea of your true personality.
Thank you. Yes, this distinction is an important one, and though some mornings of particularly horrific bedhead tell me otherwise, I usually agree with you about having reached that new point. It's quite an accomplishment for me, but it only makes me want to go further and further (well, my hair :P). As to my beard, I often wonder whether to keep it or not, as it represents a sort of conflict in my beliefs, but then hey, it's just a beard, and girls like to touch it, so...lol.
Peace.
Hell yeah bro keep it metal! Your hair looks really cool and it's a lot longer than it is in your avatar but you already know that:P.
Let the metal flow
-Mihnea
lol, yeah. But it's good to hear people say it. :P Thanks a lot, dude.
Haha, right on!
Peace
You take great pride in your hair and it shows. Looking good! Very good!
Thanks a lot!
Peace
Those ringlets look fantastic!
Great pictures - Patience is paying off
- Oren
Thanks a lot, man! It means something coming from you.
Peace, dude.
Cool pictures man! I like the Kimono one :-) Good progress for only two years of growth!
Thanks. :) With garments like kimonos and kilts and all these things, I think long hair really adds to them, even if it's tied back. I consider this kind of ethnic clothing to be "human" clothing, not necessarily masculine or feminine, and long hair, too, is not a masculine or feminine thing, but a human thing, so the two naturally complement each other.
Peace.
