What's your thoughts on this?
I've noticed that the ends of my hair seem a little ratty recently, so tonight I parted my hair at the back in the middle, and flipped both sides onto my shoulders. Then I grabbed one bunch, wet it and smoothed it down right to the tip, so I could examine the very ends of my hair. Then I snipped off about an inch, so the end was very straight. I did the same with the other side.
I feel better after doing this, as the ends are neater.
Has anyone else done this? I can't help but think it's quite easy to do (another benefit of long hair.) Of course, if I wanted anything longer cut off, I'd have to go to a salon. But for just trimming the tips, this seems ideal.
Luke...yes, I trim my own hair about every six months...usually cutting off about an inch. I use a method I found on the Internet..."Feye's self-trim instructions for long hair"...of particular note is a choice of whether you want the back of your hair to have a V-shape (the look I prefer) or a straight-across look. Last time I looked, her instructions were at "community.livejournal.com". I'm sure your trim looks good but you may want to check out these instructions and tips before you trim again.
I have been thinking about that for a long time now but I think I'm too scared to try it lol =P
I've only had one trim along the way at the hairdresser, and axtually she didn't do EXACTLY what I wanted (my hair is layered from growing out naturally, and I wanted to trim the bottom layer only, but she trimmed all the layers, cutting more from the lower layer).
Anyways, I'd love to take full care of my hair, and trim it myself as well... I believe it's possible to have a good control over the amount you trim...
But oh well... I'm still too undecided to when I'll trim my hair again: I've trimed for the first time at the 24 months mark, and I have been thinkink of trimming from 6 to 6 months, but I still feel my ends are really nice so I might wait for the 36 months anyways =) I'll have advice from you guys later on hehe
Anyways, I congratulate you on your self trim =) I wonder if you could post some pictures from your results? That would be really nice =)
Thank's for sharing! See ya!

Hi Luke,
Whenever I've had a go at trimming my own hair I feel like I'm treading on a thin line between control and disaster. Fortunatley I'm quite patient so I trim little strands now and then that definatley need trimming. But otherwise I probably wouldnt recommend it. If all your hair needs a trim you should go to a trusted hair dresser.

Thanks all for your responses, but I've made an appointment anyway next week, for my own peace of mind.
In retrospect, it was more like half an inch anyway, and it's barely even noticeable. I'll feel better after I've gone next week, and had a proper trim done professionally.
