Hello guys, I'm new here and seeking advice.
Basically, I decided to grow my hair long last September (I last got it cut around August). I haven't taken care of it due to ignorance (I wash it in hot water, scrub it like crazy in the shower, use dandruff shampoo on it every day, and then creme or pomade it down). After doing a bit of research, I found out that bad hair care can lead to ruin, so I'm wondering if I'm screwed this early in stage, or if I should just continue to grow it out and take better care.
I'd appreciate any advice.
I guess you've put a lot of stress on it but it's still only 4-5 months since you started gowing out and the damage must be minor. The best way to tell is simply look at it. You can tell the difference from healthy to damaged hair. :) So why don't post some pics?
Probably not...hair is pretty tough. And you've only done it for a few months. They say treat it like old lace, but honestly, unless you are going for exteme lengths (past waist), a routine that avoids the worst of heat or chemical treatment and treats it reasonably gently should serve you well (of course, if you find you have fragile hair...).
Washing your hair with hot water will not damage it.
A good tip is to use the best shampoo for your hair type and condition.
Use hotter water before applying shampoo to open up the hair and get all of the dirt out.
Then use colder water after conditioning to close the hair back up and lock in the moisture.
Using styling gels etc will not damage your hair either, unless you leave them in for months, which no one does.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice guys. My hair feels alive today for the first time in a long, long time.
