This is my final guitar update. I finished all the clear coating, and its time to put the guitar away and let the paint cure for about 2 weeks to a month. Lacquer takes forever to fully harden (although not as bad as enamels.. they never harden) and if you assemble it too soon the finish can be ruined. Here is the guitar in detail
With flash (one coats of clear)
Without flash (many coats of clear)
On the last coat I had an accident, I touched the guitar before it dried by accident and it left a huge scar. I filled it with nail polish and will take care of them once the paint fully cures and I will sand it down and polish it.
I really like spray guns, not only I can spray anything but it sprays a lot better than spray paints. The burst was done with an airbrush and the clear coat was sprayed with a cheap spraygun. The final coat flowed so well that I could almost put this thing together without polishing it... Couldnt get that from a spray can...
Wow! That's really impressive. I can tell you've spent many hours crafting and laboring over this piece of art. I hope the finished product rewards you well.
Looks really cool. How long have you been working on this? I remember seeing pictures of it/ or another guitar a while back.
You've done a beautiful job on this....I am glad you shared your adventure with us.

Hi Tai Fu. Congratulations on the finished guitar, looks WAY cool! I remember the trials and tribulations you had getting the correct lacquer in an earlier update.

Hey, your guitar is looking really nice, congrats! Did you make it from scratch or are you restoring it from older parts? Sorry I don't know the whole story as I've only been around for 3 months:P. Either way good job and good luck with it in the future!

This guitar started out as a stock American Deluxe Strat, 2004 model. The finish on it was transparant amber. Body wood is alder. I sanded down the thick poly finish and decided to do a sunburst because it looks so much better, and the sunburst model that was available at the time was a Standard and they used crap wood...
Fantastic! You've really poured your heart and soul into this, and it shows in the results.
Congratulations,
Bruce
It looks really nice, Tai. Two thumbs up.
awesome man!!are you gonna sell this one back for a better price (profit),or are ya gonna keep it? :))
Hey Tai Fu looks great. I remember when you said in the chat that you touched it. Nevertheless, I don't see the damage it looks really good.
Hi Tai,
Your guitar looks fantastic, it obviously takes a lot of patience. Good job! I was wondering, do you know what hardware you intend to install into it?
