While I am waiting for my hair to grow long, and of course ignoring the colour, what would be the easiest way to get my hair to look and stay like the hair in the above pics?

I think you should not try , jaymz didnt really took care about this hair last years...
anyway i think you should get a bit longer hair and use somee gel or any hair fixing thing to keep it in place like him

I think they probably used a hairspray or gel or moose to keep hair that way. I hate those things and only use it if the suituation demands it. Otherwise I wear an alice band to keep hair off my face. I think another site suggested putting hair on a curl while the hair is wet and let it dry out in that state, thus the hair will become curly once you release it and it might make it easier to keep it off your face...
Maybe you do not need gel and it works if you only comb your hair back (it should fall to the left and right then, like on the picture) and then from time to time go through your hair with your hand (I cannot explain it that good) at the side of your head, to get that wave.
Just try, in my opinion it is no look that you get by fixing your hair with any tools (like gel), but a look that just appears after a certain time.
Thinking about it I just had this idea, that you do not even have to go through your hair with your hand, you may already get this look by combing the hair back like I said, maybe when the hair is still wet (though this is a bad idea if you want to have long hair, because coming wet hair is evil ;-) you could also comb the hair back and then make it wet). Depending on if your hair has this structure that it is becoming a little bit wavy (I think it has, looking at your photo), it might look like that when it is getting dry and falling to the left and right.

By the way, if it does not work, do not be frustrated or something. You are an individual, and you do not have to look like someone else. This is also why I do not recommend to use gel, it makes you look unnatural. Just be yourself, do not care about a special look, and it will be best. This is possibly what James does, too :-)
