And if so, who are you rooting for? I would rather see the Colts win, but they have fallen behind early on. I guess we'll see if they can make a comeback. My reason for rooting for the Colts is that I would love to see Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison win the big one. Not to mention, Manning is a Louisiana native =)
I'm going for the Colts, simply because they knocked the Patriots out. I'm a Jets fan, and we have a rivalry with NE. Although to be honest, I really watch it as an excuse to wat way too many nachos, chilidogs, and otherwise good food.
I don't care which team wins. Neither one is my home team, and I'm not particulary attached or offended by either one. I'm just enjoying the game. I was going to skip half-time, but when I got back from taking out the garbage Prince had started and his show was actually good. I just had to watch it. Yes. I'm not ashamed to admit that.
Lots of people here preferred watching the Queen Mary 2 sail into the bay over watching football. It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon here in San Francisco.
Bill
Ok, I'm confused. I hate football, but what's the big deal about the QM2?

Because just maybe she is a beautiful ship, and a feat of engineering?
Hey Bill, your beard looks great. It looked good when it was short, but it looks great now.

How do you even find out about something like that? Is there some kind of "ship spotter" mailing list? I'm sure some famous ships have sailed along the Potomac, but if they did I probably wouldn't find out about it until the TV news came on. Alas, the QM2 is almost certainly too big for our river, I think. Tall-masted ships require a draw-bridge raising. They are building the bridge higher, but it will still have a draw span. Yes, one of the busiest highways in the country is sometimes stopped for a drawbridge raising. I kind of like it. One time, I watched the old span raise on a warm summer evening, from Old Town Alexandria. I think it's great that in this ordinarily busy, obsessed, city people sometimes still have to stop for slow-moving boats. I'm sure the people sitting in traffic thought otherwise. It's too bad there was no desire for a suspension bridge here. There's the cost, and then there were people who thought it would distract from the historic character of Old Town. No kidding. Really. Some of those people didn't even want the bridge to go as high as it did.
It was all over the media. It would have been hard to miss.
Bill
Wow Bill..............absolutely a magnificent sight! Were you EVER lucky to see that. The other that I consider in their own way magnificent are the hugh (Almost Titanic-like)Ferry boats that carry one from WA. State out into the San Jaun Islands and up to Vancouver BC. It is just like something out of the past way before any Super Bowls were even thought of. Me? I got rid of the TV years ago. Spent the day mostly working on a Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. (Cadenza section.)
Justin~
hey Bill,
the beard is comin along great.and I don't blame you for choosing to watch that boat go by,the view is beautiful!!take care :))
Oh, how much I miss living in the bay area! What a gorgeous day on the bay. Glad you got out and enjoyed it, Bill! I've been completely homesick lately here in Nevada but your pictures brought a big smile to my face. Thanks for sharing!! Ah, my favorite city in the world...wish I was there.
I'm not into football or the television so my wife, kids and I just hung out and did our normal peaceful Sunday thing at home. I played music, read my book, played with the kids, took the family for a nice walk and spent the evening just chillin' to some good tunes and good conversation. :-)
And your beard does look GREAT, by the way!
Take care,
~G
Yeah, the weather was beautiful today, but what was really awesome was how huge that ship was. The Golden Gate Bridge is not a small bridge. The ship cleared it by about twenty feet. As you can see, people were out by the thousands to see it. Later we learned RickG from the board here was a mile further east taking videos of it. We met for dinner afterwards, and he said there were mobs of people over there, too. He got a different view since the ship for him appeared all of a sudden just beyond the bridge. We saw it coming from the ocean for what seemed forever.
Thanks! We've got more pics of the ship on line now - at the link below. --Bill
Queen Mary 2 arrives in San Francisco
Great photos Bill,
I spend time hovering around the Golden Gate area when I can. The size of the QM2 is staggering. Thanks for Sharing.
I was fortunate enough to sail on the O'Brian a few months back in San Diego. Quite a part of history.
Football game? What football game? HA!
Nice pics. Thanks Bill
Wish I had been there. Thanks for posting them!
Ed
Magnificent!
~G
Actually, Bill was on the bluffs West of the Golden Gate Bridge and I was East of the bridge. So he was able to get pics of the ship going under the bridge and I took some decent video of the ship passing under the bridge and into the bay. It just cleared the bridge by about 28 feet!

That is an awesome picture!
Jeffrey.
Wow, 2 feats of engineering in the same spot. I've always wanted to see the golden gate bridge. Judging by its size in that pic compared with the QM2 it must be huge! If I were in your shoes I'd have gone to see the ship too : ) Thanks for the pics Bill.
Neil
That is truly beautiful, you can really get the perspective of her magnificence next to the tiny looking sailboats next to her! And San Francisco harbour is so beautiful! It makes me want to get to California that much more, perhaps I can even meet some of the (many) members of the MLHH who live out there. I had mentioned that in a post earlier on, that I would like to visit when I retire.
David
Beautiful pictures Bill, I am from San Francisco, live in Phoenix now. Seeing those pics makes me homesick. Wish I could have there to see the QM2 glide under the Golden Gate. WOW!! that's better than any super bowl to me!!
That is so beautiful! I live in California too, just in the boring part.
Yay!! =)
Im not a big American football (in Taiwan we call it olive ball because the ball looks like an olive) fan but I listened on Walton and Johnson show how one of the DJ's there dreamed that the bear was gonna run... not sure what that means.
They also mentioned that it is illegal to say "Superbowl", NFL, or any team names in public because those names are trademarked and copyrighted....
so now on lets call it somethingbowl.
Tai Fu,
I live in Louisiana, USA and i listen to Walton and Johnson every single morning that they are on. Im guessing that since u live in Singapore that you must listen on-line.
Can you please tell me where you listen to it?
Clayton
I am in Taiwan... I listen online through the Bayou Station in New ORleans.
Thanks a bunch man.

As a Patriots fan I can't root for anything related to the Colts
or Peyton Manning. So I went into this rooting for the Bears.
I was dissappointed the Colts won, I've always been upset that
the Pats and Brady never got respect but the Colts did.
Brady one three super bowls. Someone remind me again how
many super bowls Peyton Manning has won.
