Hi,
I'm obviously new here, and I'm 17 years old. It seems to me that my hair grows slow. It's grown about 6 inches, which is average, but I still feel like it grows really slow. There's also something else I'm unhappy about; on the sides where my hair starts it doesn't grow. There it's like soft baby hair that doesn't grow any longer, so my hair looks shorter on the sides. I always think that it's me accidently cutting it off when I shave my sideburns, but it can't be. I'm always concerned about my hair falling out too. I hate to see hair in my hand when I shampoo or when I comb my hair, but I guess it's normal..
I plan to keep growing my hair, forever. Thanks!
Welcome!
Your hair looks great. I am currently at 13 months and have the same length. Dont worry about how fast it grows , It'll get long with given time. As for your side hair , I suppose you are referring to the hair around your temples. I think it is normal in some cases to have lighter and less hair around that area. Could be related to MPB but i am not sure. I , Too , Have that same issue. Overall , Your hair looks healthy and shiny. Well , Hang in there and keep it growing!
All The Best,
Christopher
Chris_H: Thank you! I'll try to stop making a bigger deal out of it than it really is. What is MPB?
Ronald
First of all, your hair looks great!
MPB(male pattern balding) does affect a lot of men, but it is more likely that you are developing a mature hairline. Only a qualified doctor can tell. The mature hairline frequently begins around your age. Usually from 17 to the late 20s. This is where the juvenile hairline moves back an inch, or, more. Anyway, it's all about genetics and any young man that loves his hair would be well advised to visit a doctor, preferably a dermatologist for a thorough evaluation. BTW, it is completely natural to loose 100 hairs per day.

Welcome, and I do hope you stay with us, you'll find a great community of very supportive people here. I think your hair looks awesome, shiny and in great condition. Your hair is going to look truly fabulous when grown really long, I really like the fact you plan to grow it forever. It is true that the hair near the temple area does grow slower than other areas for most guys, I certainly would not worry about that for now, I don't see any problems with thinning in your case. I was wondering how long your hair was when you started? I am definitely looking forward to your future updates.
Keep it growing,
David
David: I surely will stay. It's great to know that people here are supportive. I have already found split ends, and I had to cut the tips off to prevent further damage, so I don't think it's in great condition. I'm going to stop being so careless when I comb or brush it for now on. I'm also going to start using a leave-in conditioner. Yeah, I have no thinning problem (knocks on wood). I just was concerned about the hair near the temple area and down. It's not thinning at all, just doesn't grow anymore than 2 inches and is finer. Thank you.
Ronald
I forgot to answer your question. I started growing it when all my hair was about half an inch.
Ronald
Welcome! Your hair looks really cool and will look even better as it gets longer. As for the hair-in-your-hand-while-shampooing-or-showering, dont worry, it's not a problem, it's only the fact that it's more noticeable because it's longer. Keep it growing!
