There is a rumor going around that a contestant was disqualified for refusing to cut his hair.
Article on American Idol
That is ironic. I remember in the first season (correct me if I'm wrong), there was a guy who nearly won the whole thing, I think his name was Bo Bice. (I think he finished second) He had an awesome mane of hair, think it was around mid back. I fail to see why a show that has a lot of music performers would be anti long hair, especially since society as a whole seems to be more receptive to long hair on guys than it was a few years ago. I DO know that the show has become much more mean spirited lately, the judges seem to take special pleasure in putting everyone down.

I watched it the other day when Simon kept commenting that people were exiting out the wrong door. Later in the same episode, Simon himself tried walking through the wrong door.
I think the criticisms, especially from Simon, are part of the draw to the show. And I'll give them this. It would be incredibly painful to hear thousands of people singing poorly, not all at once, but one after the other. They live in their own special kind of hell. I'm not surprised, then, if someone gets on their last nerve sometimes.
They replicate the "wrong door" situation in city after city. All I can figure is that it must be some sick sense of humor. If I designed the site here like that, you all would hate me. [grin]

I do remember Simon asking Bo Bice if he'd be willing to cut his hair, to which Bo said No.
You gotta realize Hollywood is never about talents. Its all about making money. They find someone with certain image, then gives them the money and promotes them, and they make all the money. They dont give a rat's ass about anyone's talents and thats why movies these days really are bad.
A picture for those, who don't know Bo Bice and his hair.
... and an annotation about his hair:
"... Bo Bice, why even bother having long hair if you don't take care of it? It's probably clogging up every drain in your house, and is difficult to keep untangled and clean. And it isn't doing anything for you. It's as limp and lifeless as your music career is (no Rock star will ever have credibility after going on American Idol). And because it's so thin, it makes your features look wider, and with your snout that isn't good.
It's not the 80s anymore, even Bon Jovi cut his hair. Please Bo, cut it off because it just makes you look ugly and outdated. ..."

It doesn't look badly taken care of to me. Any hair that falls out will eventually clog up a drain if enough comes out (sometimes it doesn't take long, depending on the length of hair and the person's shedding rate). It doesn't look tangled or dirty, either. Anyway, I thought the cool thing today was "retro." Maybe retro doesn't apply until at least thirty years have passed. Or maybe the whole retro thing is limited to furniture and clothing.

He looks so beautiful, he should be a model or something. I think Hollywood and American idol is just shallow. Although I can't blame them because they were only fulfilling what the general population demands, therefore it shows how shallow most people are today...
I saw them interview the guy. A brief conversation was had where he was asked about cutting his hair, he said "no", and they said his singing was good enough so they invited him to Hollywood anyway. Now it sounds like he is not going.
Keep in mind that the interviews you see have faced the "Santa Claus sees too many chimneys" problem, and their solution is "helpers". If ten thousand contestants have packed the stadium and they are there for two eight-hour days, Simon et al are not going to see all of them. Santa has lots of helpers, and the only ones we see on TV are either very good or very quirky. When they drag you off to see Simon et al the helpers probably gave you an "A" or an "F". We only got to see the guy because he was good and also in their eyes quirky.
The attitude in that business is that they own you, and that includes your body. On another similar show, Grease, they've had one guy who is the only one with even longish hair, and about a week ago one of the judges reached out, clawed at the man's hair, and said, "we gotta do something about this". If an employer did that to my hair, he'd end up in court and probably also sprawled out on the floor. But in that field the people doing the casting are accustomed to taking such liberties, probably because the applicants are so desperate that they generally let them get away with it.

He looks like Nicolas Cage in The Fidel Castro Story.
American Idol found that by letting people embarrase themselves on the air they gain more ratings. Thats why they never let talented people on American Idol anymore. They find someone they know can't sing or anything and put them on. Apprantly the audience likes it.
I heard that from the Walton and Johnson show, for what its worth...
the walton and johnson show is the best! :)
I am so surprised, there is more ten percenters here than I thought. I thought I was the only one...
What!!!!!
I listen to Walton and Johnson every day that it is on. Its amazing how only two guys fill up a room with 5+ voices.
peace
guy has a music myspace. Might be a good place to follow any developments. It's interesting because when it comes down to it the show is a popolarity contest with the public making the choices. This means that the best "artist" may not be the artist to win first place. This happened last year as it has in others.
