I have been growing my hair for 18 months now and have a few questions to ask
1. I use head and shoulders and was wondering if it is really what I should be using, as it is a 2in1 shampoo and conditioner, so is there any treatments or hair products that are better and keep my hair healthier?
2. My hair doesnt seem to grow as fast as it did (but that might all just be in my mind) and have been told every 6 - 8 weeks to get a trim and this will make it grow faster...is this truth or lies?
3. Someone told me that tying my hair back is bad for the hair and I frequently tie it back, so is this lies?
4. And finally what is this oil treatment I have heard about here?
Thanks a lot
and have been told every 6 - 8 weeks to get a trim and this will make it grow faster...is this truth or lies?
thats a lie
Frau Farbissia from Austin Powers movies,
"LIES - ALL LIES!!!!!!!!"
(in fake German accent, with particular emphasis placed on the last word, it being shouted the loudest)
Separate shampoo and conditioner are usually best, and I have heard that Head and Shoulders is harsh shampoo for you hair.
This is not true, trimming you hair just makes it shorter.
If your being rough with it, using elastics with metal in them, and tying it back tightly, yes, maybe some damage can occur, otherwise, probably OK to tie it back.
Oil treatments can vary from hot oil like V05 (directions on box) to just applying some type of plant based oil, like olive, jojoba, almond, or kukui, to the length of your hair when wet or dry.
No, thank YOU! See you later, Bragi

2in1 shampoos i DO NOT recommend. It is because shampooing and conditioning are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. It is like eating your dinner with desert all in one, it would taste disgusting, right?
What 2in1 does is layer your hair with a wax or wax like substance to give you the feel of smooth hair, when it is infact just covering your hair.
Best thing is to use seperate shampoo and conditioner right for your hair.
2. My hair doesnt seem to grow as fast as it did (but that might all just be in my mind) and have been told every 6 - 8 weeks to get a trim and this will make it grow faster...is this truth or lies?
This is a myth. How can cutting the ends of your hair make it grow faster at the root? It is like saying cutting grass will make it grow back quicker.
3. Someone told me that tying my hair back is bad for the hair and I frequently tie it back, so is this lies?
It is only BAD for your hair if you tie it back skin tight to your head. If you wear it in a loose bundle it will not damage your hair.
4. And finally what is this oil treatment I have heard about here?
Not sure what you mean :P
Answer: Don't use head and shoulders!! That brand, as for being a treatment for dandruff, is really harsh on the hair and may dry it out!! Also, using a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner is silly, because shampoo is meant to clean oil and conditioner is meant to replace it, do what's the point?? I suggest you use shampoo and conditioner separated, what will work much better =) And only use dandruff treatment champoo's if you really need them!
Answer: Trims are useless if you're hair is not damaged. I hae been growing mine for almost 29 months and I just had a trim once, at the 2 years mark, because of splits... Trimming hair to grow faster is a huge myth, so forget it =)
Answer: Every longair ties their hair back... there are long haired ladies that always wear it up in buns and updos... it won't cause damage =) Actually, if you tie it gently, you are even protecting it from weather and natural damage, which is good =) Don't worry about it =)
Answer: Oil treatment is when you apply oil to your hair. i do it twice a week and I love it. Tough it always depends on the hair lenght and type. My sister's hair is tail bone lenght and doesn't like oil. So I suggest that if you want, you can gie it a try. I use sweet almond oil, but you can also use coconut oil, olive oil, and lots of others! =)
Hope I helped =) See ya!
Hi Andrew,

As for your questions,
1. I would avoid 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioners, I would ALWAYS use separate shampoo and conditioner. With 2 in 1 products, the conditioner is not really effective, as it is washed out right away with the shampoo. You need to shampoo, apply conditioner, allow it to stay on the hair for a time to soak in, then rinse out. Also, if you have dry hair, you will want to shampoo less frequently the longer it gets. A lot of guys here don't like Head and Shoulders, it can be a rather harsh product, as it is a dandruff shampoo and those products tend to dry out hair more.
2. AVOID scissors, trims, ANYTHING of that nature! They will not help your hair grow faster. If someone is telling you to get trims, it may simply be their way of getting you to avoid growing your hair longer. ONLY if the ends are badly damaged, should a SMALL amount (1/2 inch) be trimmed off.
3. Tying back hair is not harmful, but I would avoid tying it back too tightly.
4. Some people have used various oils, etc. in their hair to moisten the ends.(jajoba oil, olive oil, etc.) There are also hot oil treatments that are available in any store. I tried a hot oil treatment, it may have made my hair slightly softer, but not hugely so.
Hope this helps,
David
Thanks for all the help, going to go buy some real shampoo and conditioner now and try out this oil treatment to see if its for me. Thanks again
