My ideal length is like the picture below. Heath Ledgers hair is really nice that length and i have a similar face shape, so should look good with it too.
I think it will take me about a year to get it to this length from now.
Will take a lot less than a year in my opinion.
Good luck tough =)
It is medium length hair then. But nevertheless, i still am here to share my growing story with you all.
I might want to grow it as long as it was in ten things i hate about you. Now that is long hair! Look at the pic.
Well, let's call it longish. :)
I'd call it the awkward phase
Yeah! What a nightmare!
Would look stunning in three years though. :D
Wow! I never intended to want to grow my hair half way down my back.
But i still do want it long and different to anyone else, i want to be my own person and stand out from the crowd.
I think something in this length would be cool, because many different styles can be achieved.
I still cannot wait to post my next picture on the 22nd of this month :D

Scale from the perspective of growing it out for the first time:
Above the ears: short
Ears: medium
Over the ears: long!
Bottom of ears: No wait, THIS is long.
Chin: Sorry, my mistake, THIS is long.
Chin and Beyond: Am I there yet?

You have a very narrow definition of what long hair is. The hair in that pic is anything but long.
That's about the average length I used to keep my hair for the last 20ish years. It's Ok except you will constantly be in the awkward stage.
Yes, I think form buttcut to that length about 6 or 8 months.
That's not long hair. It's early awkward stage. If you keep it at that length it's just long enough to get in your eyes and be a nuisance. The advantages are it takes less time to take care of.If you like the messy look, just wash and go.

I get told I look like Heath Ledger, but I get told I look like so many people that it gets kind of funny.
Anyway, I always figured that length would be kind of hard to deal with depending on what kind of hair you have. Finer hair would work much better in that style for sure, while thicker hair may get frizzy and out of control at that length.
This should be VERY EASY for you to optain. A mere "piece of cake" so to speak. I would think about 9 months would do it easy.
I think everyone is right. 1) you'll be there long before a year (good news!). 2) You'll be in perpetual awkward stage, but you can deal with that. 3) it's not really considered long hair, but it's longer than the norm and I think that's cool.
Good luck on your journey, may the hair gods be kind to you.
Keep on growin'

That's about 4 or 5 months growth. Here are a few things to know about hair this length.
Long? No
High maintenance? Yes
A good choice for a long-term hairstyle? Probably not, unless you don't mind having a lot of bad hair days and visiting a stylist all the time.
I don't think of THAT as long, it certainly won't take a year to get there, probably less than half a year at normal growth rates. That length looks like a high maintenance length, right at the "awkward stage" where hair gets in the eyes but can't be tucked behind the ears or tied in a tail. Everyone has their own tastes in how long they want their hair, personally, I would go for something MUCH longer!
