So, here was my situation yesterday.
I was just about out of conditioner, and I've really been wanting to try a new kind anyway. I've been using Garnier conditioner for months now. Well, I went into the on campus store to see what they have. Of course they had Garnier, Pantene, Herbal Essences, etc. Well, then I saw some Suave Professional conditioner, which was cheaper than everything else by a dollar. I decided to give it a chance.
The results: Really really good =) The Garnier stuff made my hair feel nice, but this cheap stuff is even better. Plus, I was really getting sick of the Garnier smell after this many months =P
The moral of the story: DON'T KNOCK THE CHEAP STUFF UNTIL YOU TRY IT OUT!! haha
Different hair suites different things. You might of been using the wrong type with the more expensive brand.
BINGO!
It isn't necessarily the price, but how the products work in your hair. I mean, what I use to wash costs a fraction of a cent per gallon, but it very definitely doesn't work for everyone.
I used garnier before and hated it. At first it was great but afterwards it was making my hair look like a frizzball. I think that one day is not enough to judge a product. Perhaps after a weeks use you can judge better. I have uses matrix , Biosilk , Pantene , Garnier , aussie , ETC.... Right now i am using mane n tail and herbal essence(blue bottle). I really like em both. So yea you are basically right , Sometimes the cheap stuff works better than the expensive stuff. Afterall , They all contain the same/similar ingredients.
you can't judge a product based on one day of using it,you gotta give it a month at least.I've used VO5,garnier,and Pantene so far..and I gotta say my hair likes Pantene out of these 3 in the long run. When I was on the cone-free method,my hair was really greasy..now it's ok :))
Your right about the garnier stuff. It always was average at best for me. I'm using Aussie stuff right now and although its more expensive than garnier i like it. I used Herbal Essences before Garnier and where I live they are about the same price. It was very good but I couldnt stand the sickly smell after a while.
Neil
. It was very good but I couldnt stand the sickly smell after a while.
Yea Neil , I hear you.
It does smell quite strong. It smells very fruity and can become a nuisance after a while. I smell like a walking coconut after using the shampoo :-)
I find that to be true also. BUt recently I've been switching alot. I rotate on a daily basis with a basic shampoo, then the other day i use a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner.
This works great for me since i have to wash my hair due to my hair is extremely oily. I think alternating like this has something to do with the ph of my hair, but I'm not sure. The only thing i know is that it works wonders for me.
peace
i ment that i have to wash my hair every day or it gets really oily, and i still use conditioner when i use the all-in-one shampoo. Not using conditioner would be detrimental to my hair.

For the last 2 weeks I have been using Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner. Recommended by Jason. It was only $1.30 for 15oz. and works great, No silly-cones but I have to use a palm full.
I like mane and tails, its not too expensive, cone free and does the hair quite good. But then again I could wash my hair with straight soap with no ill effect to my hair so I dont know...
I think I would have to disagree. Maybe it is only because I am a swimmer and need deep conditioning to keep my hair nice because of the chlorine. I can definetly tell a difference from Sauve/cheap conditions and conditioners like Pantene Prov. The cheap stuff leaves my hair in knots and so ratty that I can literally, no joke, pull my hair out. I cut it all off at that point and would only use expensive conditions and I could see a world of difference.
You gave me a chuckle. Garnier, Pantene, Herbal Essences...they're all inexpensive products. None are professional quality.
By the way, there is little difference between professional brand shampoos and "drug-store" shampoos. BUT, there is A LOT of difference in the conditioners.
I was speaking in terms of drug-store products only, because I think it's safe to say that most guys don't buy their hair products from a salon =P
