Well I am most definitely in the heart of that wonderful point in every aspiring longhair's journey... the awkward stage. So let's see what I came up with...
I took this shortly after working out. I ran 4 miles (on the treadmill -- it's too cold outside) and did a ton of weights. I was very pleased to learn that I have lost over 30 lbs since last August, 15 of which have been since I was in Colorado last month.
Here's a frontal close-up...
And the back...
With my hair combed down as flat as it'll get...lol
How long should I grow it? Stomach? Butt? I don't know. I'll just let it go until it seems right. =)
There are a few more photos on my site (click on the avatar or go to the Links page -- thanks, Jason!). That's about it for now. Comments are welcome, as always. =)
-James
I realize I posted the same pic twice. The third one should be this:
lol... I'm too tired to be doing this stuff.
-James
Hello James! Your hair is starting to look better and better with each month, it'll be funny to see what it looks like in about 6 months more:)
How are you handling the awkward stage, do you comb it back or just leave it like this?
Simon
Thanks, Simon! I still just comb it back and let it dry, occasionally fingercombing it along the way. It's actually much easier to maintain now than it was 6 or 7 months ago.
Hey James,
This is one of those updates where I notice quite a difference in length, perhaps you've had a growth spurt in the last month.
Haha, welcome to the awkward stage! It never bothered me that much, in fact, I rather enjoyed it as it was proof positive that the journey is progressing well. Before you know it you'll be through and a longhair in every sense of the word.
Congrats too on the weight loss. You've motivated me!
Jason
Your hair is looking nice James.
Keep up the great progress!

...
Congratulations, James, on a great update and for the terrific weight loss of 30 pounds! You are looking VERY trim there, Bravo to you! Your hair is beginning to get some good length now, looking great, soon your bangs will be at chin length and a ponytail won't be far behind.
All the best, and keep up the great work,
David
Thank you very much, David! I finally came to a point where I told myself that I had to lose the weight and will continue to so... We'll see what next month's pictures bring. =)
-James
Looks nice, especially for the awkward stage. Even slightly curly hair tends to look better, IMO, than straight (what I have) when going through the awkward stage.
Thanks a lot, Dave! It seems we just have to play the hand we were dealt genetically, but that's probably for the best. =)
-James
congrats on losing 30 lbs!!that's quite a feat..I need to GAIN 30 lbs cause I'm skin and bones lol.and the hair is lookin ace,I see a difference in length!!!
dude, you are TALL!!I bet you would tower over me if I were right by your side lol...take care!!(oh..and please DO consider waist length!)
Haha, thanks CA! Being 6'8" has its ups and downs (literally!). I'll consider waist-length. I can't promise anything, as it'll take forever and a day to get there, but I'll consider it. =)
-James
Well, if this is the "heart" of the awkward stage for you I would consider it to be one of the nicest versions of it I have ever seen.
Your hair is doing tremendous. It looks fabulous! The colour is superb.
As to how far it will grow.......you will eventually know what you desire the best. With hair like that, I dare say you couldn't miss whatever you tried.
Good luck to you as your journey continues.
Thank you very much for the great comments, Justin! I really appreciate the support. =)
You are keeping and looking very healthy and the hair looks really great AND you look very happy in these pictures.
As you should!
Thanks, Dean! I'm feeling absolutely wonderful. =)
Hi, James
Your hair has definitelt made progress. I noticed right away because of your bangs. They seem much longer than before. Also , You have definitely lost weight. You look alot slimmer in that picture below. Keep up the great progress hairwise and weightwise! Good luck with your studies as well!!!
Hey, thanks Chris! I've definitely noticed my bangs getting longer, as I have to constantly brush them aside, lol! Thanks for the kind words. =)
-James
Those bangs just have such personality with their little twists and turns along your face. It doesn't look awkward at all, James, just really cool.
Mouse
Hehe... thanks, Mouse. I just have work with what I've got, I suppose. =)
It sure looks great now James the longer it gets the better it looks thats what I think anyway grow Terminal since you asked how long should you grow for !
Axel
Thanks for the kind words and the suggestion, Axel! I'm really considering it now... =D
Oi James Raymundo,
I am glad to see your update. Just keep sticking with it and you will reach the hair of your dreams. Wow, I just thought of this - for you to reach waist-length at your height, that means you will have at least three feet of hair or more! That will be awesome!
Boa sorte e tchau, Bragi
Oi Bragi! Como vai, eh? lol...
I guess I hadn't thought about it, but I just looked in the mirror and laughed, as it'd be about 3.5 feet... in other words, awesome. Anyway, thanks for the comments! Tchau. =)
I would say everything looks very under control, its all coming along really well. Keep it going James, it suits you!!
Thanks for the upbeat comments, Dave! I'm enjoying it more and more everyday.
Hey James, your hair is looking really cool and you're making some good progress as usual. Keep it growing, it's gonna be even more awesome!
-Mihnea
