I've been growing my hair out for about 1.5 years now. I grew it from a normal 'short back and sides' style. Now it's past my mouth at the front, and past my shoulders at the back. Recently someone told me to get it cut to 'one layer'. What's the story here? Does it make your hair look much better?
it depends on what YOU like and what kind of hair you have. . .typically, those with straight hair may look better with their hair all one length. however, if your hair is wavy, curly or coarse, then you may prefer a layered cut to avoid big, poofy hair that makes you and your head look like a triangle. . .
I thought that poofy hair makes your head look ROUND, like an Afro. Is the triangle look the result of straight hair cut straight across like the base of a triangle?
That's before it's long enough to weigh itself down.
No, it's poofy/curly/whatever hair that's long enough to weigh itself down, but it spreads itself apart by its volume at the bottom. Straight hair can't really give you a triangle-head since it hangs straight down. (Unless you do something to it that would make it realllly poofy, somehow....)
Well, ALMOST straight down. Straight hair goes down at a slight angle, so that there is a slight flare-up as the hair gets to the bottom. A triangle has STRAIGHT sides. I thought that poofy hair is curly, so that the lines are ROUGH, rather than straight, giving you a ROUGH triangle.
I like the poofy hair in a triangle myself. By the way, does a layered cut cause the wavy hair to go straight down, like a shag?
