Hello:
I have a question for the non-layered (all-one-length) long hairs:
In April I'll be at my 2-year point and I'm considering getting my hair trimmed to all one length (no more layers) at that time. I'm imagining approximately 3 inches will be cut from the back.
This may seem like a silly question, but will a trim like this (3 inches from the back) have any immediate impact on my ability to wear a low pony tail? Obviously if the bangs are not cut, they'll still reach back there. Though my concern is they'll have less hair from the back area of my head to be tied to together with (in the tail). If that makes any sense.
My other question is (if you are an all one-length long hair) did you regret trimming your hair in this fashion? Also what do you like best about having it all one-length?
The thought of trimming 3 inches from the back of my head like this is a scary proposition for me, though I like I'd be happier with my hair this way.
Thanks for the help folks!
Vince
Cutting off three inches will have SOME effect on making a ponytail. I don't see why you need to trim that much off.
5 years ago when I started to grow out my hair, it was already several inches long but my hair was NOT all the same length.
The strange thing is that OVER TIME my hair became one length...or so it seems.
I don't know HOW it happened, but over a five year period my 'bangs, became as long as the back of my hair!
I just took some photos after showering which I will be posting soon. What
you will see is the result of growing my hair for five years with NO trims--not one. Or to put it another way, I haven't touched my hair since 5 Feb. 2002.
Perhaps trimming off three whole inches is not necessary so think about it first.
*To answer your other question: I have no doubt that all ONE LENGTH is the way to go, but in my case, I achieved it without any cuts or trims.
Good Luck!
You can't just go from having layers to all one length, unless you grow your layers out first.
You shouldn't have a problem with the ponytail as long as you're still leaving a decent amount of hair back there. That hair has so little distance to travel to reach the tie.
I don't regret having all-one-length hair at all. I just like how it looks. I like its bluntness. I like that from the side when I have my hair brushed straight down, it forms a wall of uniform length hair.
Jason,
Your all-one-length looks awesome. I am sure you are seeing a very good stylist that you can trust. I want to thank you for your support of my hair being all-one-length too. Glad to be a member of the club.

Actually, all one length hair really is not all one length. The front and top hairs are longer than the back and bottom of the scalp hairs. It's just that your hair is evenly trimmed across the bottom back. (Hope I said that so it made sense.) I like my hair all one length as I think in terms of getting the ends trimmed there is less likehood of errors, because in a more natural "V" shape one side might get trommed shorter than the other side and to correct it the other side gets trimmed even shorter - but too short - and then the original short side needs to be trimmed shorter - all can lead to disaster.
My advice is that if you are going for all-one-length that trimming the ends is OK ... if you want the more natural "V" shape DON"T TRIM!
Karsten
Thanks for all the advice guys. I appreciate it. I think I'll get a trim (in April) as Karsten suggests to even out the back, to have that uniform non-layered look.
It's funny how the thought of even touching my hair with scissors is such a frightening thought. When I had short hair, getting a trim was no big deal at all.
