Hi again everyone,
I have to say it's been an awesome couple of days on the MLHH. We have had some fantastic updates lately. In the course of a few short hours Sunday, we had a very trim and slim James giving us a taste of a great mane to come, followed by the long awaited return of ChrisG, blowing us away with the growth rate of his straight, flowing, mane. Karsten displayed his awesome THICK mane with his usual artistry, and we can NEVER forget another outstanding update from Jason, leaving us awestruck as always. Also, we have a LOT of new faces around here! (and all that was in a 5 hour span on Sunday alone!)
Forgive me if I have posted too many pictures lately (I REALLY don't want anyone saying I'm spamming the board or anything!), but it HAS been a really transitional month for me. In the last month, I grew the first ever beard in my 53 1/2 years. Also, I just made the switch to a centre part, from the side part I have worn my entire life. Somehow, I feel like a TRUE longhair now, rather than some wannabee, so I just felt I had to celebrate. Anyway, enough gabbing, on to the pictures! (34 months hair, 1 month beard)
My centre part (I had thought it was, looking in the mirror, but it still seems SLIGHTLY left of centre). How do you think my hairline looks, do I carry off a middle part OK? (I have some recession at the temples, that was part of the reason for me hesitating to switch to centre part before)
Here's a picture of the back, there is still some damage showing on the right from where I used to straighten, stopped 5 months ago, think the damage is growing out.
Side picture (can see where hair is little thin around temples, hope it doesn't look too bad)
got too close to the camera on this one! (I use a 10 second delay, then make a dash to get in the picture, kind of blew this one, but it DOES show lots of hair!)
And one with hair thrown over the shoulders, shows beard better.
Well that's all for now, sorry for the losng post, but I just wanted to celebrate a couple of milestones!
Any and all comments, suggestions, etc. are ALWAYS welcome!
David
Whoa David! That first pic especially blew me away. It makes any recession you might have totally disappear! Your mane looks full and thick. And with your beard, what a totally cool look you have going.
In the second frontal pic, the part does look more off center but maybe your hair will take a bit of time adjusting to it given how long you've been having the side part. Once again, the center part looks great!
You're not the spamming the board, dude! You're posting inspirational pics and also offering helpful advice given your experience with growing long hair.
Thanks so much Jason, for the enthusiatic compliments! You have always been an inspiration to me and knowing I can be an inspiration to a few guys is great! I am LOVING the new look, I plan to have Oren change my avatar (again)! I am praying that I am far enough from terminal length to keep up the growing for a while yet, hopefully to belt length, and even beyond!
Keep up the great growth with your mane, onwards to belt length!
David
Wow !
You look really nice with your new beard and with center part !
your hair where you used straightener doesnt look damaged, and all your hair look very healthy.
i think your beard fit your really well keep it growing as your hair
Cya :)
My hair Journal
Thanks so much, Angel! I have to say it has been a fun month, totally changing my look, I love it!
I just wanted to add that I think your journal is awesome! Not many people would have the patience to post daily front and back pictures, with comments, every day. It's a great inspiration to everyone growing out their hair. Keep it up!
Keep it growing,
David
Wow! The centre part fits you really well in my opinion, and your beard looks awesome! I'd say the centre part fits you better. And as Jason said, it makes all recession dissappear! It looks really good, keep it growing David!
-Mihnea
Thanks so much, Mihnea for the compliments! I am really looking forward to your future updates, you have great quality, thick hair, that can only get better the longer it gets.
All the best,
David
Thats a lot of great pictures David. I am glad we got a good look all around that terrific mane of yours. There is no doubt you are truly a longhair and it looks great on you. I really like the different colors in your hair (hey, gray can be a great color as I have learned too )
I really like the beard, it really does change your look. Keep on growing it out. I seem stuck on just a little bit of stubble myself but beards can be quite a strong characteristic.
I like the slightly off center part actually, it looks perfectly natural that way, you ought to keep it like that.
Thanks so much Chris, for the kind words, I have to say I love the new look, somehow, with my original avatar, I didn't feel like a true longhair. Now, with the part much closer to centre and the beard, I feel much more like one. (I had intended the part to be dead centre, it seemed that way in the mirror, but the camera doesn't lie)
I certainly can't come anything near to your growth rate, but I definitely plan to grow it as long as terminal lets me, hopefully at least belt length. (Hopefully you'll grow yours at least that length!)
Welcome back, and hope your health continues to improve,
David
(P.S. I got your reply to my email, I replied with some answers to your questions about my COOL job, I DO hope you get to Nova Scotia some day!)
WOW DUDE!!YOU ARE ROCKIN!!
all the photos were great.the side ones show your length really well, and there's definitely lots of shinyness to your hair!!the front pics show that awesome thick beard of yours, and I can already see the neck getting shorter!!:PI wouldn't worry about the temple area, that's very mild if any recession, hopefully the propecia will stop it dead at it's tracks!!!like I said before, the beard totally suits you..you look badass!!
as Jason said, the center part is toward the left a little bit but it would probably have to get used to the center part first, well take care DAVE!! :)
Thanks so much Jacob! I have to say the "badass" looks is one that I am liking more each day! Everything is a keeper! I think the reason the part is a bit off centre is because I think the hair, after being parted on the side for so long, is "fighting" a bit to be pushed to the middle, I think the hair will gradually shift with time. Its great that Oren is so patient, my previous avatar will have a total lifespan of two weeks before my next one kicks in!
And its AWESOME you're shooting for waist length!
Dave
David, you look absolutely wonderful with the beard and center-part. I'm glad you went ahead with an obviously very successful experiment. Keep it growing!
Mouse
Thanks so much, Mouse, for the kind words, it's been SUCH an interesting month, I never would have even considered these changes without being inspired by this AWESOME community, everyone is so supportive! I am REALLY looking forward to your next update, you have such gorgeous, thick, wavy hair that is going to be truly outstanding when REALLY long!
All the best,
David
The center part looks good on you David. I think it's a better look, actually! And the beard is a nice compliment to the whole picture. Congratulations!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks so much, Bruce! I am looking forward to your next update, hope you give the centre part a try! I am particularly happy in that the front view makes it looks as though I have almost no recession of the hairline at all.
Keep it growing,
David
Looking fantastic David!
The hair and beard are a winning combo. The centre part look is shaping up nicely, too.
- Oren
Thanks so much, Oren, for the kind words. I actually plan to make my centre part picture my new avatar, I REALLY appreciate your patience! I feel the centre part looks so much better than the picture I took 2 weeks ago, I feel I look more like an authentic longhair. (I sent you an email with the picture)
Keep everything growing,
David
Hi David,
I think the centre parting suits you really well. Have you decided wether you are going to make it a permanent look? The beard is great, really thick and its great new look.
Keep it growing!
Neil
Thanks so much, Neil, for the kind words. I DEFINITELY plan to keep the centre part, I LOVE the new look! It's strange I never even considered a beard until being inspired by the guys here just over a month ago, at which point I decided to give a shot at growing one. (first one in my entire life) The beard is a keeper as well.
I am REALLY looking forward to your next update of that awesome mass of curls you have!
David
It looks really cool. The beard and the center part make for a really stunning change in your aesthetic. I think the look fits very well with you!
Thanks so much, Gylfi! I do like the new look, I was inspired to try these new things by seeing other guys' updates as well as getting some useful suggestions as well.
I am really looking forward to your next update as well, hope it's coming REALLY soon, your look is so cool with those waves cascading onto your chest.
All the best,
David
Thanks so much, Gylfi! I really like the new look, I was inspired by the guys here to try these new things, one of the awesome things about the MLHH is getting ideas that I never would have tried otherwise.
I am really looking forward to your update, hope it's coming soon!
All the best,
David
All is looking so good David. Thanks for the update.
About the center part. This looks the best of all and is the NATURAL way the hair parts itself when long.
Continue on with your great success! Hey, isn't it fun!!!!! :-)
Justin
Thanks so much, Justin, those words from a long hair guru like yourself mean so much, and it is SUPER FUN! I have to say I love the centre part and the beard, I never would have tried these new things without the support and encouragement of this AWESOME community!
I am really looking forwrd to your beard update, hope you're still growing it! Your hair must be well past your waist by now (I first discovered the MLHH in September, you had just reached waist length then), I'm looking forward to your next hair update as well!
Keep everything growing, I just LOVE the MLHH!
David
Yes........it is really such a great place and the guys here are super terrifuc!
Ha ha ha...........my hair? Funny thing. At this point I don't even bother to check how much it has grown. The ends are still strong however and have yet to thin out hardly at all. Of course I have had 2 slight trims in all these years. And of the beard? Well, it sure is growing and at this point which is try #2 and the final at (1-1/2 weeks) is starting to look rather well with one exception: Too much salt! But, I won't give-up so easy as I plan on "cheating" and to try and colour it at the 2 week mark slightly lighter than my hair colour. It is a fun experiment however. Ha Ha ha. When I final come through with a pic of myself in less than 2 weeks scientists from all over the world will exclaim: "THERE'S THE MISSING LINK!"
Take care
Justin~
Hey Brother D',
That's a great set of pics. Everything is "working" for you! I like the middle part very much and the beard is really filling in. This being your first beard I'm sure you're enjoying every week that goes by. For me when I grow a beard I have what I call the "comb sticks in my beard all by itself stage." Ha! Seriously, I take a small fine tooth comb and slide it into my beard. If it stays (hangs, sticks, whatever)then I've reached a milestone and it means it is thickening up. Looks like yours is there man! Compared to some of the older pics you've posted from the lab (?) I think you defineately have a more unique (authentic) look now. Of course, the denim beats a lab coat anyday, right! Keep up the good work! Run Forrest (I mean David) Run!!! Bruce'ster
Thanks so much, Bruce! I have to say I am definitely liking the new look! I guess i'll be getting Oren to change my avatar (again!) god thing he's so patient. It's funny about the beard, I never would have thought about one until I joined the MLHH, its ceratinly a keeper for sure!
All the best,
David
Hey ,David
Great looking mane and beard! I think the center part suits you very well. It looks better..(to me). Jacob is right , Your neck does look alot shortet with the beard and the hair. I wouldnt worry about the thinning around the temples , Im sure all is fine. I , Too , Have a bit of thinning around the temples and im MUCH younger than you are. Well thanks for the update David and good luck on your long hair journey!
~chris
Hi there Chris, thanks so much for your kind words and all your support! I am loving the new journey, this is a totally new look for me. I am really looking forward to your next update!
Keep it growing,
David
Wow David, I must say that your center part and beard are great looking! You have taken on a whole new look in the span of only a month and it suites you perfectly. I really like the center part. It may take a few weeks for your hair to be re-trained to easily part perfectly central because of it being used to the side part. That is what I noticed from my past experience of changing my part from the side.
Bravo!!!!!
Thanks so much Chris, I have to say I really like the "new me" !
I have definitely noticed the "training effect" you have mentioned, the hair has been parted on the side for so long (even back in the 1990's, when I last had it really long), that it is definitely fighting to be re-trained. Your avatar is looking great, I'm definitely looking forward to an update from you!
All the best,
David
Beards have an almost magical way of making us older folks look younger by hiding wrinkles and age lines that we all have in our faces at our age.
Beards also have an almost magical way of making younger people here to look older.
Long hair forever.
Absalom
Thanks so much, Absalom, it's great to know there is an "age equalizer" called a beard that can make an old geezer like me look a little younger! I am definitely liking the new look, and plan to keep both the beard and the centre part.
Keep everything growing,
David
looking good there, hope you keep it all growing
Thanks so much, Ron! I am really liking the new me, I think everything is a keeper for sure.
All the best,
David
Just great, David. I agree, you really look like a long-hair now and it is more about the look of peace on your face (the confident, self-assured look of a man following his own direction) that makes it so. I think the centre part is good for you and the beard is really a nice addition to the look.
Great work, David!
Shawn
Thanks so much, Shawn, I really appreciate your continuing support in my new journey. I have to say, without the support and encouragement of this AWESOME community, I would never have contemplated trying these new things!
Keep those manlocks growing,
David
Congratulations on a great look, David! In the past week your beard has filled in nicely, and the center part is attractive. Together they give you, if there is such a thing, a very "mainstream longhair" look!
Bill
Thanks so much, Bill, coming from a beard and longhair veteran like yourself, they mean a HUGE amount! I really do feel like a REAL longhair now, everything's a keeper for sure,
Keep it growing,
David
Well David, I truly think you have found a look that suits you perfectly. The beard has really come on and the hair looks very good indeed. Compared to the photo you posted with your work collegues this look you have now is so much better for you.
All the best. Dave
Thanks so much, Dave! I have to say I feel a total transformation has taken place in the last month, I could not have done it without the support and encouragemnet of everyone here.
All the best,
David
Hi David! You hair is starting to get some serious length now, and the center part suits you nicely too, i'm also experimenting with with having either a center or side part, but somehow i like the center better.
I'll make my next update in March so i can post a few pics then.
Also it's true that your beard really does hide your neck alot:)
Simon
Thanks so much, Simon, for the kind words. The beard and centre part are both new experiences for me, I have to say that I like them both! I am definitely looking forward to your March update, your hair has been looking so much healthier lately.
Keep it growing,
David
Woha, that beard is coming out really good! It looks really cool, especially with the grey spots. Keep growing! :)
Thanks so much, Erik! I have to say I am really liking my new look, salt and pepper included! And the centre part is a keeper for sure!
Keep it growing,
David
Hey David! That center part looks great on you, as does the beard. You'll make it to belt-length, I'm sure of it. Just be patient and one day you will wake up and finally realize that it's there. Keep it growing! =)
-James
Thanks so much, James! I have to say I am really enjoying the new journey. Hopefully, in another 3 years or so, I'll get to my goal of belt length if the hair doesn't reach terminal. Keep up the great work on your web site.
All the best,
David
Hey, you looks very cool with beard. I think it gives you a new style.
Peace Fellow
Thanks Fellow, for the compliments! I have to say I am really liking the new look, I'll be getting Oren to change my avatar.
Keep it growing,
David
The beard's looking great! Keep it up. As for the part, that's the good thing, you can mix it up to change your look.
Thanks, Bragi, I have to say I am liking the beard more with each passing day. I plan to keep the centre part, time for another avatar change!
All the best,
David
Hey
David
You got some awesome hair there looks great to me cant see the center parting picture though Im not a beard fan so i wont comment on them I prefer to be clean shaven there myself as it makes me itch like mad !
Axel
Hi Axel,
Thanks for the kind words about my hair! The centre part is actually in the second posting I made, I am definitely enjoying it. In this update, the centre part picture didn't show, so I made a second post, just below, titled "try again, centre part didn't show first time". (When I posted first time, I referred to a non existent picture in photobacket, so I posted again immediately, with the correct link.) Since so many guys responded to the first post rather the the second, the correct one got pushed down about 15 lines.
Keep it growing,
David
