Hello
I think that since smoking and exesive drinking is bad for health and that hair health depends of overall health , it must affect hair.

Just 10 minutes of cigarette smoking decreases the body's and skin's oxygen supply for almost an hour. Smoking robs the skin of collagen which keeps the skin elastic. Because of this, smokers are prone to premature thinning and graying of the hair. Men who smoke are twice as likely to become bald as are men who do not smoke, and premature graying is 3 to 6 times more common in smokers.
I smoked two packs a day for 2 years, before quitting 6 years ago. That was one reason why I quit.

Congratulations. I've never smoked, but something my grandfather said has impressed upon me the addictive qualities of smoking (physical and psychological). He hasn't smoked in over 50 years, doesn't like sitting in the smoking section of a restaurant, and thinks it's a bad habit...however, he still says that if he knew he was going to die tomorrow, he'd want to have one.
A couple longhairs I know quit as a New Year's Resolution. One has fallen off the wagon, but the other guy is hanging in there by munching raw veggies pretty much all day. As a side bonus, he's lost 20 pounds. :-)

Thanks.
Nicotine takes just 2 seconds to reach the brain, at which point it generates a chemical reaction that produces a strong feeling of euphoria. That feeling is what addicts people to smoking, and the effect is instantaneous. Unfortunately, it also dicipates over time, as the brain becomes numb to the presence of the drug. Smokers then have to smoke more and more frequently to maintain that feeling. Before they know it, they've gone from 1 cigarette per day, to up to a pack or more, within a matter of months.
The most addictive aspect of smoking is the ritual itself. Smokers love to smoke. The whole process is extremely alluring, and fun. Most smokers are aware of the harmful effects, but they're too in love with the process of smoking to really want to quit. They also haven't a clue what they would do with all the time they would get back from quitting. As such, the most difficult part of quitting is getting used to being a non-smoker again.
As for the niccotine addiction, the body actually only requires 3-4 days to cleanse itself of the niccotine. But that's also when ex-smokers are the most irritable, because they've got their body's thirst for the drug and their own desire to smoke working against them. Once their body's clean, the hard part of quitting really begins, and that can take weeks, months, or even years to overcome, depending how strong the ex-smoker's will to stay clean is.
I haven't had any interest in starting again since really educating myself about the facts. Now even the thought of holding a cigarette makes me nauseus.
I've actually gained 30 mounts, but that's because my metabolism took a hike when I turned 30.
LOL!
Well, i've heard that beer contains alot of B-vitamins so if you drink much of that your hair quality could probably get better:)

It is hard to say. My Great Grandfather had very thick hair when he died at 92 and he smoked 4 packs of Camels,non-filterd, per day for decades. The thickest head of hair that I have ever seen on a man was a guy that I knew many years ago. He was a heavy drinker and he had smoked all of his adult life. He was about 50 when I last saw him. Smoking and drinking are obviously bad for one's health and it is best to quit. I must admit that I do smoke, but only when I drink, which is about once per week, or, every other week. Genetics is the main cause of hairloss, but, genes can be triggered by many things. I firmly believe that smoking causes wrinkles.
