Hello. I'm growin my hair out for the second time. The first time was 13 years ago and I had it long for 7 years. Unfortunately, I cut it 5 years ago. One of the reasons was that people were telling me that I was going bald (I still have a full head of hair) because I have 2 cowlicks on the back of my head right next to each other. These cowlicks don't look like bald spots when my hair is short. It seems like the weight of my hair pulls the cowlicks down so there is a thin area on the back of my head.
Now, these cowlicks are thinner hair areas on my 10 months of longhair head and people, once again, are telling me that I am going bald. Now, I'm wondering-do I need to wait till I can cover the back of my head with a pony tail or will this perceived bald spot go away with length?

I have the same problem, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going bald (not yet at least). I think it's just the way the hair parts in the back when it is longer. My hair is thin and straight, so that might be part of the reason it does that.
What exactly do you mean by these cowlicks at the back of your head? I think i have a similar problem to you with the bald spot thing, but i never remember it being so bad when i had shorter hair.
Well, I have two cowlicks right on the top-back portion of my head. If they get cut too short, then the hair on the back-top of my head sticks up-kinda like dennis the menace in those comic strips. So, hairdressers have always left that area longer so that it wouldn't stick up. I've noticed that when some guys go bald-it's there. When my hair was short-the cowlicks weren't very noticeable. Now that it's long-they look like bald spots. I know they aren't bald spots because I performed the unthinkable act of cutting it short 5 years ago and the bald spot went away. Now that my hair is long again, the bald spot is back-I hope it goes away soon!
That's odd. I've had some cowlick phenomenon lately, but it's right by the natural part, and I have guessed it's because I've been sleeping on that side of my head more to keep light out of eyes. I also have a scar in another spot, and my hair parts there sometimes.
