I have shoulder length hair now, and I usually have my sideburns and the hair around my ears trimmed about every two weeks. When I wear my hair in a ponytail, the area right above the ears looks thinned out. My sideburns never seem to be even on each side, and I'm afraid that some of the hairs that should stay long are getting trimmed as well (like the hairs that are along the hairline above the ear and toward the eyebrow). Do most hairdressers have a certain way to trim the area to ensure that only the right hairs are trimmed?
I'm concerned because it will take many months to grow the hair back out, if that's what I need to do to make the hair have a "fullness" to it when worn in a ponytail. My current hairdresser is female and doesn't seem to be quite as effective at trimming my sideburns as the back of my hair... would I be better off finding someone who gives more haircuts to long-haired men?
