Hi Jeffrey,
Just wondering how your beard is coming along, do you still have it? You and I started about the same time, so you would be at about the 5 week mark by now, should be nice and thick by now. I think you posted a beard update at about the 3 weeks mark. I haven't seen you around much in the last two weeks, although you posted quite a bit yesterday. (Are you still fighting that nasty bug?) Perhaps you could get some pictures up if you still have the beard, would be great, and thanks)!
All the best,
David
P.S. I switched to a centre part, my current avatar reflects the centre part and shows 1 month beard growth, I also posted an update on the board last Tuesday.
Hi there David!
I feel great now. I have been gone a lot as we are getting very busy at work. I drive through the week and wash trucks on the weekend for extra $$$.
Well, I have found out that I need to colour my beard every 3 weeks, which isn't a big deal since it only takes about 4 minutes. My beard is getting thicker as hair that was in the rest cycle is now growing in and the hair is getting longer. I do like it a lot better with the beard.
David, have you noticed any unusual side FX since starting Propecia? I have been on anti-DHT meds for a while, (about 2.5 years), however, I have been doing a lot of heavy lifting at work and I am sure that I am getting more muscular than usual. This seems a bit strange since I am well over 40. I believe that the decrease in DHT and the increase in testosterone is responsible for the change, but , I have no concrete evidence.
I'll try to post a new pic this evening of the beard progress. I think I'll trim it down a bit too as it is getting a little wild.
Jeffrey.
Hi Jeffrey,
It's great to hear from you again, and that you still have the beard, looking forward to the update. It's great to hear you're feeling better! Have you had a chance to check out my centre part update which I posted below, what do you think, how do I carry out the centre part in your opinion (what do you think of my hairline?) and how does my one month beard look? My new avatar also show my centre part. (it is slightly off centre, but I am still training the hair to go to centre after so many years of side parting)
I haven't noticed any increased muscles, etc. from the propecia. I've only been on it for two months, so I'm not sure when I can expect to see benefits, positive or negative. I haven't noticed any really thickening of the crown area yet, not sure when/if this will happen.
All the best
Since you missed my update which I posted last Tuesday, here's a picture of my centre part and beard at one month. What do you think of the centre part and my current salt and pepper look, fortunately more pepper than salt, lol!
Also, Justin posted a few beard photos as well, I have to say his beard is looking GREAT! We DID start something a month back, didn't we!
David
Hi there!
Well, you started all this and I'm glad that you did.
Your hairline looks just fine. I really think that you look great with the facial hair. You don't have much gray at all. I am almost all gray, but, shhhh...don't tell anyone. Ha!
Also, I think that the centre part suits you very well. Keep up the good work. It's quite obvious that you are doing things right and you're getting there quickly, I might add.
I'll post a pic of my "chemically treated" facial hair in just a bit.
Thanks, Jeffrey, I am VERY happy with the centre part, so much so that I only had my previous avatar for two weeks before I got Oren to change it again! I also have to say Justin is doing great as well, and he's only been growing for around three weeks, and he plans to keep his. I really like Justin's new look as well as both of ours. I have to say it's been a great month, 3 of us growing beards in one month alone! (And I just joined the beard community today)
All the best,
David
I've decided to keep mine also. :-)
Justin~
CHEERS, Justin, looks GREAT!!! I'm SO glad you stuck with it, what a fantastic new look! (How many weeks is that?) I remember you saying that you were a "perfectionist", and that you were planning to have it the same as your hair colour, you look eternally young there. Keep up the good work, I hope you keep it!
Keep EVERYTHING growing,
David
(P.S.- I am REALLY looking forward to your next hair update, it must be well below your waist by now)
Hi David
Thanks so much for the compliment David. Thank you for your kind words. I rather like the "New Look" so plan on keeping it. (The beard hardly took any time at all.) Here is yet another new look with work jeans on and baggy sweatshirt covering the waist. That's the fun of having long hair. You can do so much with it and no matter what, and it always seems to look well. (The hair when in the front like this always looks shorter than when worn in the back.)
Justin~
Hi again, Justin
I have to say, again, you look really GREAT with a beard, how do you always look so YOUNG! I plan to keep my beard in its natural colour for now as I don't have a great deal of gray. I know you're not a great fan of gray in beards, but hopefully, my beard doesn't look TOO bad, I hope the look of my beard grows on you as it gets thicker.
David
No way David. Just look at Bill or Ken and some of the others who post to the board. They all look great! :-) I don't mind grey beards in the slighest and yours is looking terrific!!!!!!!!!!!
All this "grey stuff" is only my own personal problem aimed just at me............Never others. No way!
Ha ha ha. At my age the Titanic is within 1/2 hour of sinking, and I am clinging to the top portion as it continues to assume its upward slant before it slides beneath the water. But I am giving a final try at stalling what is to come. So, I mask the truth. In my case I prefer that the Hair colour and beard match-up somewhat similar. Funny, but there is quite a bit of grey in the hair.........but it isn't noticed. I have never coloured my hair as long as I have lived. When a baby it was white. By 5 a very light brown. By 20 a medium brown. And through the years it got darker and darker until so dark brown it was on the verge of being black. Who knows why? My own mother,(Mommy Dearest) used to accuse me of colouring my hair! LOL :-)
Justin~
Thanks so much, Justin, I am SO glad you DO think my beard looks good on me after all, I wasn't sure about what you thought about the small amount of gray!
I DO have to say that your hair as always been a true dream of mine, I would DIE to have hair down to my waist and I am doing my utmost to get there! I am still a little concerned about my terminal length, I have been growing just under three years and am still a ways from mid back, although when wet and stretched it is close to mid back (I remember you reached waist length in 4 short years, that is FAST growing!). I think Jeffrey has a better shot at reaching waist length than I do, as he has been growing less time than I have and has apparently reached mid back. But I will NEVER give up, unless it is obvious that I have reached terminal length.
All the best,
David
Now there's one awesome groovy hippie dude! :-)
Looks great, Justin!
Bill
Thanks Bill! :-)
As an elderly hippie that will never grow-up and never got out of his 1st childhood that was a wonderful comment. I have always been "different," but I don't care and never have all of my life. It's fun to be your own person! In the past, (very rarely) people have said to me: "when are you going to grow-up" which only make me laugh inside. But this new beard thing? I just cannot believe the bunch of comments (all good) coming from people all over the town I live in. Unbelievable. And they are really sincere!!!!!!!!
Hope you're enjoying a nice evening.
Justin~
I like that! Wow! What a difference the beard makes.
I was in hopes that my hair would get to the same length as yours, but, that is questionable. The length of your hair is what my goal is.
Well, looking good Justin!
Thanks for the compliment Jeffrey, and yes.........what a difference it does make. I like very much. But, I DO think yours is much better. :-)
About the length of hair I have.........it is really nice.......at least I like it. I do hope you reach this goal. Funny, but the longer it gets, the less hair that is lost. Hardly any to be seen after washing. But shoulder length to mid back a wad seems to clog the drain. Please Jeffrey, don't give up hope...........growing long hair takes a long time.
Take care
Justin~
Justin, your beard looks absolutely fantastic, its suits you so well, and complements your hair perfectly. A wise choice indeed!!
Hi nuttidave and many thanks for your compliment. Actually, now that I think of it YOU are included in the decision I made. A long time ago you posted an update and the beard surprised me. I remember thinking: "Wow, what a difference, and for the better." (Sure wish if I were to ever have a beard again it would look as nice as that.)
Then Jeffreys and Davidn's postings "did it." I just HAD to give it a try.
Thanks so much for your kind compliment.
Justin~
Well, here is my progress. I have not trimmed it, as of yet. You and Justin are pulling ahead of me.
Jeffrey.
Thanks for posting the picture, Jeffrey, I was really looking forward to it! I have to say the beard is looking truly fabulous all the way, it appears to be growing in VERY neat considering you haven't trimmed it, and the dark colour suits you VERY well and really brings it out! The hair looks graet as well, looks healthy and shiny, how close are you to mid back? (Perhaps you could post a picture of the back sometime.) I saw in your reply to Justin that you are now considering growing to his length (waist length) rather than mid back as you had said earlier, that would be GREAT, and a true triumph of your battle against MPB!
David
Well, I'm not exactly sure what I want. Sometimes my hair seems longer than it usually does. I know that sounds strange. It's almost like my head sucks it back in at times, or, something. I like the length of hair that Justin has. I wouldn't want it any longer. I can't tell if it is still growing, or, not . I think it is, but, as it has become longer, it is hard to tell. It's about to the middle of my back now. I'll post a picture before too long. I can tell you this, it definitely looks longer if I get the tangles out and brush it really good.
Well, thanks for the kind words.
Jeffrey.
Doesn't sound strange to me at all. I understand these words perfectly. I have been through the whole thing.
And really, neither do I. I am quite sure that it is still growing and seem to remember Absalom saying waist lenght is considered "classic length" long length hair. At this length it is a dream to take care of, and for myself uses up very little time per day. (Much less than when it was shorter.) Longer than this (for myself at this point) would probably just be too much and I am presently 100% happy with my hair at this length. So much fun because one can do so many things with it at this length. I know it is still growing, but because by the time you get to this length (speaking for myself) measuring length isn't even thought of. The long hair is so much a part of yourself, feels great and seems so natural to have as if it has always that way.
That length took me alot of work. 4 times more than at the lenght it is now. I know this doesn't make sense, but this was my experience. And lots (tons) of hair loss at this length which is no more at waist length. No more clogged drains.
And that's always the way it works. Did you ever try "Finger-conbing?" It is easiest of all, and in my case it is all I do. (Learned of this through EdG.) No brush or comb needed for me anymore. The photos show the results of finger-combing only.
You are entirely welcome. Thank you for the beard inspiration. Had it not been for you (and David) I NEVER would have considered it at my age. I have been told that the beard makes me look younger which I NEVER in a million years would have guessed. (Same thing as has happened to yourself.) I do believe a very long beard adds an a certain additional optical image of advanced age to someone no longer in their 30's. (Only my own thoughts and I am sure many would not agree which is ok.) Each to their own and what makes them happiest is what counts. Self expression=sheer heaven! :-)
I have been on this Hyperboard now for a goodly number of years and have tried to help and encourage guys when they were unsure or having doubts or problems. I enjoy this, and the Hyperboard is just the greatest place to come to for re-assurance which cannot be found anywhere else. The guys on here are just so great when it comes to support of each other. (Almost like a family........a superior supportive one.) And to my utmost astonishment, because of YOUR profound beard efforts and those of David I myself now know what it is like for tremendous inspiration. I cannot begin to thank you enough!
Justin~
Actually, I think you have a GREAT chance of reaching Justin's length, far more than I could ever dream of! You are at mid back after 2 1/2 years and your hair is still growing at a good clip and the ends seems in good shape, so you still have lots of growing left.
Lately, I have been VERY discouraged by my growth rate, closing in on 3 years and still at least 6 to 12 months from mid back, far behind the updates of most of the guys here. I DESPERATELY want hair as long as Justin, but it may indeed be only a dream, I suspect my terminal length is far shorter. I have to keep telling myself, DON'T GIVE UP, I can't give up hope as long as my hair still shows some signs of still growing.
David
David, I'm sure that you will reach your goal. I suppose within 2 more years, or, so, I will have a pretty good idea as to wheather, or, not, my hair will ever reach the length of Justin's hair.
Oh gezzz...It's all fun though, isn't it?
Well, I better get to bed. I have to leave in a few hours.
Best wishes.
Jeffrey.
Thanks Jeffrey! I AM happy that you are having a go at that length. I remember you saying earlier you weren't planning to go past mid back, it's great you changed your mind.
All the best,
David
Hey Jeffrey,
Your beard looks fantastic beyond words!!!!! And, it was YOU that gave me the final inspiration to try and grow a beard because it looked so fabulous! (I had not sported a beard since the age of 27.) Yes, I know, my 1st attempt failed because I didn't like (for myself) all the salt I was seeing. But using colour to hide the salt despite (cheating?) makes me very happy that I am nearly in the final days of how long I desire my beard to be. Just got a trimmer today. Probably about the 3-1/2 week mark will be the full length that I desire for myself. (This Wed.)
Justin~
Your words are so very kind. Thank you.
Like you, I prefer the short beard. I don't really know the length that I'm trying to achieve, so, I'll just play it by ear.
Your post below reminded me of something I was thinking of last week. You stated that "long hair takes a long time to grow".
Well, it certainly does and a lot of people don't understand that, especially employers. If I were an employer and a man with long, good looking hair approached me for a job, I would seriously consider the fact that this guy puts a lot of work into his appearance, therefore, if given a chance, he might work just as hard for me. If more employers thought of it that way I think that long hair would be much more acceptable in today's society. I have long hair and I am a very dedicated employee and have been with the same company for many years. After all, anyone can go to the barber shop and get a quick fix; That doesn't take much work, however, long beautiful hair will probably cost the individual a considerable amount of money over time and requires a lot of dedication, furthermore, considerable work is involved.
Sometimes I get too philosophical.
Well, thanks again, Justin. Keep us posted.
Jeffrey.
That beard is pretty sweet, I can grow the heck out of one but my stash barely connects, in fact this is the first time it has ever connected and it is pretty much pencil thin. Good luck with it!
Thanks, Pool Player.
Mine would have connected a little better if I had of brushed it first, but, I forgot to do it before I took the picture. My beard really isn't all that thick. The colour that I use makes it look thicker than it really is. BTW, I do have a little thin spot on one side where mine connects. I guess it's just genetics. Some guys that want a really good looking beard have thin areas filled in with transplants. A good surgeon can easily do this by using the FUE, (follicular unit extraction), technique.
Jeffrey.
I've actually grown to like the thin connection, the rest of my beard grows in full and thick and I think it's just grown on me a little. Kinda adds some character to it w/o me doing anything!
