I just started to notice a month or so ago that my hair started to smell really bad when it got wet; because now it's almost at my chin. My parents smoke probably 3 - 5 packs of cigarettes a day and I'm always home because I don't like to go out...If somebody could give me some ideas what to do, other than to make my parents stop smoking (they are ignorant and don't respect others' opinions)that would be great. Unless you do have some tips to make my parents stop smoking ;) Thanks!
Go out and do some exercise and eat healthily. These are the best ways to grow healthy hair. As well as treating it well.
You should at least convince them to go outside when smoking. Smoking inside when they have kids is, in my oppinion, extremely irresponsible. If I were you, I´d have a chat with them and tell them that it ruins your health. Sure, if they want to destroy themselves, go ahead, but they shouldn´t take you with them.
Try spraying a lot of strong-smelling air freshener frequently around the house, --- especially near the door to your room, and/or wherever they most frequently hang out and smoke and irritate you. Be subtle at first; then gradually increase your new habit of battling for your right to be free from living with heavy smoke odors. Most of the time, "Action speaks louder than words", --- so no need for you to have to say a thing, until they ask you why you are torturing them with Lysol and other flowery smelling sprays...
And while you're at it, have FUN (and even be a bit mischeivious about it)!

If they refuse to stop smoking inside the house, you could try an air filter - they're units that are around maybe a cubic foot or so and can filter the smoke out of the air - if you spend most of your time in your bedroom when you're at home (like what I used to do when living w/ my parents), that could work out well. I forget the cost, but you could probably pick up a good one on ebay for $50 or $100 or something - I would just research the particular model before you buy anything. Would be good for your general health as well as your hair.

I have heard that hair when wet will absorb more odors than when dry, not sure though. When your hair is wet just stay a good distance from smokers until it dries. Just a thought.
Show them pictures of black lungs and people who have to breathe through a hole in their throat because of smoking. I actually had a person like that come to my old schoolfor an anti smoking campaign, poor guy breathed through a hole the size of a nickel in his lower throat, and he could barely talk, and we could barely hear him even with the microphone. But yeah, back on topic, try wearing a hat, it works for me when I go to my friend's house, his mom smokes a lot and I usually come back smelling like smoke but not my hair since I wore a hat;). Good luck!
I heard that second hand smoke is even worse and the problem is that its impossible to avoid it now since more and more people smoke... I get alot of second hand smoke at work cause no one obeys the no smoking sign...
that's because second hand smokers inhale the unfiltered smoke, whereas the first hand smokers breathe filtered smoke...
