At work yesterday.
In training to drive the vintage cars in San Francisco, we started taking pics, and one of the other trainees didn't freak out at be asked not to cut my hair off (it is, after all SF) and got this rather nice shot.
(larger version of image)
Whoah, Dude, that's some long hair there!
That's a great shot. You've the coolest hair.
Not sure what your saying here -- did the trainee think you would have to cut your hair in order to pilot the classic trolleys? Or not? ?
...when taking pictures. Typically, non-longhair trained photographers cut off really long hair, but he took perfect pictures after a single comment.
Ah, Ok. That makes sense. I was hoping no one had dared say you should cut your hair - that's downright blaspheming.
Nice
I didnt knew your hair was that long!
a.
Thats is a nice casual shot. Nice hair!
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Cool to see the brown in your hair in that pic. Usually it seems closer to jet black.
I see you're on one of the Milan cars. Will you just be driving those, or might we see you driving PCCs, or some of the other vintage cars, too?
Bill
I'm signed up on the vintage cars, but I expect I'll end up on Milans and PCCs sometimes.
Hey Trolleypup.
Your hair is looking great. Great photo. I know the problem of photographers not getting ALL of your hair in the photo. They are used to photographing people with short hair.
It is cool that you are going to start driving the antique street cars too. They are a wonderful piece of history and it is good that they being preserved and put to good use. It would be a real sin to scrap them. Good luck with your streetcar driver training.
Absalom
Ain't that the truth!
Well, at this point, nothing is being scrapped...that all happened decades ago. Of course, we've been having collisions with them lately, which takes them off the road for a long while even though they aren't scrapped. :(
A trolley was the first motor vehicle that I drove - when I was a kid. We were living near a trolley barn, I established some friendships with the workers there and I was allowed one day to drive a trolley on a siding. Later, in my 20s, I worked as a locomotive engineer on Swedish-designed Rb1 and Rb2 electric locomotives.

Sweet! I have had a bit of "practice" on these types of cars in years gone by.
The Swedish Rb class locomotives were built by ASEA for mainline passenger and freight services in the 1960s and early 1970s. They were also produced under license in Romania (a 6-motor version of the Rb1) and in Yugoslavia (4-motor Rb2 in several variants). In Sweden they have been mostly retired from service in the 1980s and 1990s. The Rb class were the world's first electric locomotives equipped with silicon rectifiers.
In the late 60s ASEA began producing the Rc class, fitted with thyristor rectifiers. The Amtrak AEM-7 and NJ Transit ALP-44 locomotives are based on the Rc series.
Rb locomotives are still being used in large numbers in Romania (where they are being refurbished), Bulgaria and former Yugoslavia.
A picture of a Romanian Rb1 locomotive (of the type I worked on) can be seen at this link:

That is absolutely magnificent long hair!
Hey Trolleypup,
Cool pic! Cool trolley car!! And DEFINITELY cool hair!!!
That's funny about photographers always cutting off the hair of longhairs in pics, --- and so true! One of these days i hope to bump into you while you're operating your trolley car. My partner is still "learning the ropes" of getting around in SF, and I keep thretening to take him around on MUNI all day the next day off we have together (I took MUNI for 11 years before I owned a car, so it's familiar territory for me)... we'll see, but I think it would be fun.
Take care. And before I forget to say it, it was great meeting you in August!

I'm not even going to attempt false modesty here...I agree, much coolness in the situation.
It can be pretty fun, so long as you plan ahead a bit (avoid being out there when school gets out, etc, etc.).
Has it been that long already? We should do it again!
If you ever start with Kung Fu and braid your hair, you can get some serious whipping action going on. ;)
Very nice hair!
I have so say that is looking REALLY good, Trolleypup! Not only does the hair look A-one superb, but the natural, at work setting enhances it that much more.
Keep that glorious mane growing,
David
Thanks. It had been fully detangled and combed out earlier in the morning, so it was in good condition.
Beautiful hair, really great. You know i really love that picture aswell, its got a really cool contemplative feel about it, thanks for sharing.
Thanks. I was posing for the camera...well, I was posing my hair for the camera.
My first thought was "wow, what a dude!" I can imagine as people around would watch and envy.
Just be careful and don't drive a motorbike. And if, watch out the back wheel!
Thanks, and no, no motorbikes for me...not that I'd get on one without my hair up anyway.
Awesome picture, long hair seems made for the sunlight :)
Fantastic!
