Guys,
How long does it take to pass through the awkward stage from beginning to end?
THANKS...
from the point that my hair began to get in my eyes until it all reached the ponytail- about 2 years.
I went from a crew cut, to the front down my nose and the back to almost my shoulders in one year. And I have curly hair! I do eat a lot of protein.
Don't give up! I've been tempted to cut it many times.
Guys,
Thanks to all of you for your help. I think I am beginning the awkward stage right now. My bangs are starting to get into my eyes so it is still early yet. I have straight hair and I am asian (filipino 2 b exact) and it looks like I have helmet hair! LOL! I have been wanting to grow my hair long for years now, but always gave in to cutting it. Now I have gotten this far there is no turning back. I was jumpin the gun when I said it would take six months for me to put it in a pony tail. I am waaaay off! More like a year from now before I at least start looking like I have long hair! Anyway, thanks to all for your support.
HAPPY GROWING!
HAPPY AWKWARD STAGE!
and VIVA LA LONGHAIRS!!!

This might be a stupid suggestion cause its way harder then it sounds:
if you can somehow have hair that is more than average length, before you "oficially" start growing it real long, its like a head-start. So maybe get it trimmed a few times while its in the awkward stage and then start growing it for real and i think youll be impressed even if it takes longer.
I kept mine around chin length all-around for a couple years , it was like a bowlcut that was too-long. But I really wanted super-long hair so I quit getting the trims . Its been 2 and 1/2 years with no trims at all and i think its grown fast, but if it wasnt at chin-length to start with it would be much shorter now.
Id like hair down to my butt or my knees and am willing to wait for it. No haircuts!
About 9 months, maybe less if you're not growing it from a buzz cut.
Keep growin it, man!
Expect about 6-7 months where its always either in your eyes or in your mouth...too short to pull back AND too long be anywhere but your face. Worth the aggravation, though.
