Albeit a very small one, and not in public either. I finally broke down the other day and bought hair ties, just to be prepared for future growth. I first tried this the other night while shaving and decided to snap a couple pics tonight. It's kinda sad in a way since my bangs aren't nearly long enough yet, but oh well. =)
One of those little milestones we like to discuss, I suppose.
-James
well its a small one but it is one.
congratulations!!!
a.
So are you going to be the first longhaired politician to run for the Senate?
You should keep that little bit of hair beside your ear growing. Don't shave it!!!
Congrats! I've been wearing my hair back in a tail lately, albeit with a hat on normally, as it's still to short to keep back and my bangs are about 3-4 inches too short. It is a great milestone and it just keeps getting better with each one you hit.
I am still trying every couple weeks to see if a tail is passable for me. I think I have a bit longer (time and inches) to go.
Good for you!

Congrats! I play around with some hair ties and clips once in a while. Like you, nothing really feels like it looks good enough to wear in public, but it's fun to try. You should take a picture of it in a month to see the progress!

Congratulations James! Every little milestone is a big reminder that progress is being made.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Good Luck.
I am about 2 months ahead of you but growing it . I am working on getting a pic. I hope I can join you within a year as being the newest members of the long hair community.
Rich
Looks good on you... :D But it's hilarious...
I make a tail on the bottom of my head when i'm playing piano...
Great!!! That is definitely a milestone. MINI tail, but hey , Its a tail! Congrats!
Hey James,
True, it is a modest tail; but hey, it is indeed a tail, nonetheless! Many guys in the past who became regulars on this forum for awhile never even made it that far... So, in my opinion, you have every right to view this new landmark as definitely the milestone that it is, --- so, CONGRATS!!!

Hey James-
ALL guys in process of growing-out their can't wait for the day they can make a nice Ponytail. It seems to be objective #1 straight across the board for those never having long hair before.
You are doing very well in such a short time and I can hardly blame you for having a try at it. (Think we probably all do this to test the waters.)
In 6 months you will have 3" longer which really makes a difference. BUT.......in a year, 6" longer will give you a really great tail! And it only gets better and better after that. (The most difficult part to wait for is the to have the hair in front grow long enough to reach the back and not keep slipping-out of the ponyband.)
You are doing a great job of hanging in there and not giving-up. Guys like yourself ALWAYS have the greatest long hair of all and are the winners. You WILL make it!
Keep up the good (and patient) work. You are right now going through the most frustrating period of all.
Justin
Ps: Photo above shows length of my tail at the 4 year mark last Sept. when it had just made it to waist length from a beginning of about 1" when I fell for a stupid Buzz type cut thinking it would look better. Ha Ha Ha............you should have seen it. Had there been a photo taken it would have been good enough to hang in the Post Office as "wanted!" LOL
Justin, you're not being very "fair" to me right now, at least not in that pic...
I not only want to have a great-looking ponytail like you have in that pic; but, also... I WANT THOSE ANTIQUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- a "green with envy" Ken (lol)!!
Hey Ken-
I wanted that Edison Cylinder Phonograph I was looking at. (I only listen to acoustic recordings. Really, they are far superior to any CD! You have to listen into the recording.)
Alas, it was missing the stylus and the dealer had it priced 3 times its value. Well, good luck to him.
But the REAL antique in that photo was ME! LOL :-)
lol you have done one of the first mini milestone of the process of growing your hair :)
next is when you will be able to make a tail with all your hair include ^^

hey man, don't put yourself down,I'm at the 18-month mark and by bangs STILL aren't long enough to stay in the tie!!
anyway, great milestone!!everything should be able to fit in the pony in another year, and before you know it,you'll be experimenting with braids!!all the best,
-Jacob
Congratulations, James, you're well on the road to a FULL ponytail, and that will come sooner than you think. Your hair continues to improve with every update and has the perfect texture for being REALLY long, reasonably straight with just the right amount of wave to give it good body. I saw in another post that you were considering going to terminal length, GREAT NEWS! Hair like yours past your belt would be really awesome!
Keep it growing,
David
Looks good, man, almost there. I'm trying to recall when I had hair too short for a ponytail and I really can't very well, it must have been about 10 years ago.
...don't let it get to you! I remember being exactly where you are just a couple of years ago, but before you know it, you'll have hair down past your shoulders :). Sadly, it takes time, and even more sadly, a lot of time, but it's worth it in the end- just sit tight and try not to worry about it!
Thank you for the comments and the encouragement. Time seems to be flying for me now and it'll be in no time that I can pull off a real ponytail. =)
-James
Congratulations fella!! Great isn't it? I wear one on my bicycle just to keep it all out of the way, but not other times. I have got used to it now, and have been doing it for a couple of weeks, nobody really noticed but the first day I did it, it did feel great but I just kept the enjoyment to myself. I don't rhink others really understand like we do!!
Regards, Dave
What will change when you'll have the tail really long? You'll probably have problems with high collars, some kinds of caps or sleeping on your back, but that's nothing a man couldn't endure :) Except of the hair ties, you should buy some hairgrips, at least I had problems with longer front hair without them. If they'll be too edgy, use a grinding machine.
Congrats James!
Every day your getting closer :) Its good you are encouraging yourself by getting those hair ties and trying a tail. Better than waiting forever like I did until I was sure all my hair would fit in a tail before I tried it.
Hey
James
I bet you are happy with your progess i would as you have come along way to achieve that mini task on gaining a minature ponytail lol I had to really look to spot it as it was a dark tie back lol WELL DONE anyway
