"MERMAN"
"Longhaired Fantasy" Series
Cool!!! Very VERY cool, in fact! I love the sea colors and corals as contrast and as a framing of the mane subject (pun definitely intended!), and I love love LOVE the fact that this merman has extremely looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong, flowing-all-over-the-ocean type hair!
Do you plan on printing this on a T-shirt for sale in the shoppe? I'll bet it will become a great seller!!
Thanks, Luckskind!

Thanks, Ken...equal time for Mermen!
You know, I can't imagine a "merman" with a looooong mane. Just wouldn't look right.
Long hair adds to the fantasy.
May add a few more things like seaweed, starfish, seashells, etc.
So far two requests for having this Merman on shirts! Guess it's a good idea!
Yes, it will be on shirts, mugs, mousepads, etc. A FUN item!
Thanks!
I have to say I REALLY like it, it would look awesome on a shirt, Luckskind! (Hope it will be on a shirt as well as a poster)
It's going to be tough to decide what to buy once you decide on what longhair quotes will be available, it's going to be hard to chose, there's going to be SO much good stuff in the gift shop!
David
Yes, David, I think it should go on shirts as well. What an attention-getter it would be too!
Thanks!
Hey Ladworth
When you sprung that one on me last night I cannot begin to tell you how much I liked it. It is truly magnificent and lets the guys on this board know even more just how creative you are with your mastery over the canvas. (And they know not of your museum works.) Nor do they know of the many comissions, art gallery shows and may not be aware of your stature as one of only a few of the top artists living today.
As for adding some fish............are they going to have long hair too? Cooked or "raw?" LOL :-)
THIS IS OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!! But everything you end-up doing falls into the same catagory.
Better call you about this one.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
I just have to say I am getting more and more impressed with the magnificent work Luckskind has done. I have seen his portrait of you on your page when I click on your avatar, and this latest work of Mermen blows me away. You also mention his museum workas well as art gallery shows. My knowledge of art is VERY minimal, but I was wondering where his work could be seen? Is it in your home state of Oregon, or can it been anywhere? I was wondering if you guys live in the same state? Perhaps, when I retire, I could get out to Oregon and see some of his work, and even visit you as well.
You also mentioned that you are an artist, I was wondering what kind, I hope you don't mind me asking? (My Mom was an artist, she used to paint fashion models for the Sears catalogues back in the 1950's, she also painted porcelain as a hobby in the 1980's before her health deteriorated) Being a scientist, I have NO art skills to speak of!
All the best,
David
It sounds like another board meetup! Always nice to share mutual interests with ones fellow members.

...I live on the east coast and Justin lives on the west coast!
When my websites are completed I will put up a link on the Hyperboard.
Thanks for all your nice compliments, David.
The iamges in the Gift Shoppe will be of MUCH higher quality showing detailed
brushwork, etc.
Thanks so much, Luckskind. I am really looking forward to your website link as well as your art in the gift shop. I love your animal portraits, I have also seen your pictures of Justin's dog on his photobucket page.
All the best,
David
Hey David
I have ALWAYS been impressed by his unique abilities when I learned of him around 3-1/2 years ago. We live 3,000 miles distance from ea. other (East Coast, West Coast) and I have never met him in person. Too bad, for once I lived in the East Coast in CT. But, am I ever glad to be out of there! (The climate.)Yuk!
Yikes! That's a hard one because of his many private sales as well as commissions. I DO KNOW that someplace RIGHT NOW, that an Art Gallery someplace in SF has works of his currently being represented. Too bad I didn't ask him about this today when we spoke on the phone about "Merman" which blows me away as well. I see things from him the likes that you would never believe through emails. Two recent ones: "THE LOOK" and "EXTASY" are simply fantastic paintings in the idiom he likes to work in the most of all. (His own artistic invention.)
No Problem David. My artistic bend is that of a composer. So far in my lifetime nearly 200 works were published. Unfortunately for the most part ignored by the Americans, but performed in Europe where classical music seems to still be appreciated more than where I am located. (France and Germany especially.) About 10 years ago, Monsieur Criton of the publishing firm of Leduc & Cie,Paris France (1842-) once told me that a man is never a profet (sp?) in his own land. Indeed, this has often been the case. Just look at Handles "Messiah." Handel, (1685-1759) was German but settled in England. The 1st performance took place there with no results or even aclaim. Just a "ho hum" attitude.......no big deal. But when next performed in Ireland it went over as a Hugh Success! (The English quickly jumped on the band-wagon to declare it the masterpiece that it was and declare Handel as their own.) It spread throughout the world like a forest fire as the English polished their badges. And yet, it was THEY that ignored this work in the beginning. Such is the world of the arts all too often. If the artist lives in your own town, then its nothing to be thrilled about. But if a name comes from half-way around the world, then it must be a fabulous artist. Had it not been for the efforts of Felix Mendelssohn in the mid 1800's, the works of J.S. Bach himself would most likely be unknown today. And yet, Bach is considered the father of modern music and the greatest composer who ever lived.
Each finds their own little nitch in life. You are a Scientist. That is certainly very inventive work...........in a way, akin to that of an artist working in an entirely different media I think. Always in search of perfection and always full of ideas.
Justin
Thanks so much for your answers, Justin.
I had NO idea you and Luckskind lived on opposite ends of the country! I had actually thought you lived in the same state, when I saw on your page his painting of your dog as well as the portrait of you, I thought you were almost next door neighbours, its amazing what modern technology (internet and email) can do to bring people from all over the world so much closer to each other. And I have to say East Coast weather in winter is NOT enviable, Halifax weather is even worse than northeasten US weather in the winter, I saw from your beard photo how GREEN everything is in Oregon in the winter!
I have to say the work you have done with music composition sounds MOST impressive, another member of my family (nephew) is currently studying Music Composition at Western in Chicago, he hopes to be a composer. Perhaps you will be revered in 200 years as Bach is now! I have a tin ear myself, but as you said, everyone has their own little niche in life.
All the best,
David
So this is on canvas and not digital? When I first looked at it i thought it was a digital manipulation but maybe its the quality of the photo?
Do you have a site where we can see your other works?
Hi! The quality looks a bit disappointing because I web optimized the pic to the extreme (the original was photographed at 7.2 megapixels).
Then it was reduced to 72 pixels per inch to discourage quality copying and for faster downloading.
Will put links to my galleries and web sites here when they are completed.

DETAILS FROM "NIGHT":
That's a great picture, like Triton, Neptune's son, swimming in the Aegean blue! It's very well done.
Thanks, and hope to see it on some merchandise soon.
Thanks. This picture will definitely be appearing on products (shirts, mousepads, etc.) in
the Gift Shoppe.
A bit of fantasy can be fun. We will also have a section on Historical Longhairs.
I am sure glad Daedalus asked about your other works cause they are really impressive, even compressed as they are. I am sure seeing them in person would be more impressive yet.
Fantastic, your works are so colorful!
they are really impressive, even compressed as they are.
I am sure seeing them in person would be more impressive yet.
THANKS!
