hi,
today i was at a website of a dutch hairsaloon, and they said they used some spectacular/revolutinary way to cut your dead ends. They don't cut it put go fastly with a flame over your head! you guys have heard of this? is it safe (for yourself and your hair)?
Revolutionary? Well, maybe the French revolution. Many years ago, it used to be common practice to singe the ends of hair to "seal" it. Sorry, but this "new" method just sounds like a fresh way to separate Dutchmen from their guilders.

but is it better then just cut the split ends? or just a scam?
(cool you know the dutch curency by the way)
Well, a couple of days ago, I accidentally burned a couple of hairs with a soldering iron, heh.
whoa! Just a few days ago I got hit with a flaming sock and an 1/8 inch of my hair caught on fire. it seems fine(there's no point to this story
Ive heard that burning the ends forms a seal and is better for the hair. Native Americans used this practice. I sometimes burn my split ends off.
I don't think burning is any better for split ends than cutting them. One problem I see is that the torch is less precise and harder to control than a scissors. The danger is that you'll burn not just the ends, but the hair shaft, and not just split hair, but all of it. It also smells bad and looks funky (In My Opinion). Best regards,

I saw an article in a US newspaper about a 100 year old woman who had been raised by native Americans. Her waist-length hair had never been cut, throughout her life she occasionally burned a few inches off the end as she's been taught to do growing up.
The mechanics of the operation weren't discussed. I guess I would want a bucket of water and baking soda, a fire extinguisher and a hose nearby before trying this one myself!
