I thought wind turbines are small... until I saw one in person. Man that thing is HUGE!
Cool!
I hope the world will eventually be getting it's electricity exclusively from alternative sources (wind power, solar power etc.Although I've heard wind power COMES from solar energy lol),so there can be less pollution and greenhouse effects from power plants that use oil.I believe wind power accounts for 1% of electricity production worldwide.
those things HAVE to be huge so they can produce a decent amount of power-the larger the cross section of the wings, the more energy produced.and also, the taller they are,the better.(winds in higher altitudes are of a greater speed).
I have to say I wish my power company would use more wind power! We have one of the windiest climates in the world (Nova Scotia), yet my power company STILL manufactures its power by burning fossil fuels. Not only is this environmentally unfriendly, and depleting scarce resources, but the power company keeps asking for rate increses year after year because of rising oil prices. Although the initial capital outlay may be high for wind power, it would certainly pay off both environmentally and financially in the long run.

There are some big business interest behind fossil fuels...
here in france we have a lot of that... (sorry for you all american but i think France think more about environement than USA...)
but i think it's pretty ugly...
France also has a lot of nuclear power... some might think of them as not enviromental but they sure put out a lot less greenhouse gas compared to coal. Problem with wind power is that its expensive, and doesnt produce much power compared to nuclear or something...
in my opinion , but just mine , nuclear is good.
wind power is expensive , ugly and noisy... but yea , it's good for environement...
yea they are big. further out from where i am in long island, theyve been trying to get off of nuclear power and start using "wind farms". just building tons of these things along the coast; thing is no one wants to look out at the beach and see these massive mills.
I agree they're a good idea. I've looked into getting family sized ones, and they can pay off, but it takes years. Most of what I've read and priced adds up to 20-40 years, maybe less. (Please send me any links for economical ones if you find them.) Anyway, it's a big investment, but it would be a good one. If it was more common, I'm guessing it could be cheaper to manufacture.
I took a road trip recently and went through an area where for a few miles the landscape was packed with those huge ones. It was amazing driving through, like driving through a city with tall buildings all around me, except they were moving. Very cool. :)
They are beyond huge. It takes an extra long truck, to transport ONE wing!
