Hello Everyone,
Usually, when one sees four young men with long hair and one says they play music, it seems obvious to think "Heavy Metal", "Classic Rock'n'Roll".
There is a community in Ecuador, called Otavalo, where the men resisted haircuts since the Spanish conquest. Not only they resisted haircuts, but they held on to their traditional folk music. On this video, you will see four musicians, who are not all from Ecuador, but grew their hair like people from Otavalo, but unlike them (Otavalians usually wear their hair in a long braid), wear it loose like metalheads.
In Ecuador, men from Otavalo do not even have to cut their hair for military service.
Enjoy

Traditional folk music is definitely my favourite type of music - that includes Celtic, Norse, Baltic, Slavic; most Indo-European styles, and even Vedic or Thai folk music! In addition to traditional folk music, I'm also a big fan of the more extreme genres of heavy metal (black, doom, noise, etc) and even play in a few bands that cross traditional folk music genres with extreme metal genres. Believe it or not, I notice a lot more people with long hair in the folk music communities than in the heavy metal communities. I think the difference is only that there are more heavy metal fans in the world than there are folk music fans, but I think folk music fans have a larger longhair demographic. Their hair also seems better taken care of, most metal fans I run into are pretty careless when it comes to their hair, hehe.
The French (-Spanish) songwriter Laurent Quiros had in earlier times (about 15 years ago) very long hair (longer than hip-length); now his hair is shorter.
