Well, the last week i've been thinking alot about cutting my hair short, and that is due to the fact that i'm so tired of having this dark outgrowth of dark brown dye in my hair the whole time, even tough it's fading more and more with each month i don't think that i really want to wait that long for my natural haircolor to grow back, but i think that i'm gonna wait at least 1 month before i make any decision.
Sometimes i get so sick of my hair being this long, i just feel like i wanna try something new, a completely new hairstyle, because it's been soo long since i had short hair and even longer since i had my own natural haircolor.
But i do know that if i choose to buzz it short i will most likely grow it long again when i'm tired of having it short and when my natural haircolor has completely returned, so i won't abandon you in case i choose to buzz my hair off, of that you can be sure of:)
I hope you all can understand me and why i feel like this.

Dude don't worry it will grow back if you decide to cut it. Just think of all the cool hairstyles that you'll go through while you are growing it out again. You will also have your natural hair color back too.

How about using some a relatively harmless 'temporary' dye?
Thekind that washes out after maybe 8 shampoos? You could
use a very light color which might overcome your current dark shade.
Or maybe even go all out and get some permanent light coloring added to your hair?
Why suffer and why chop?
Good luck!
It's surely only three moenths since you last went throguh this debate with yourself?
My opinion: Don't cut.
Of course it's up to you, but if you do, then you'll be more and more tempted to do something else, and then another, and you'll never actually grow it out.
Of course, that won't necessarily happen, but something like it could. Just so you know, when I graduated in 2000 and stopped cutting, I had kind of a funny haircut, so as it grew out, it remained uneven, (you can see in my first couple of progress photos) and I had it mentioned that I should trim off the excess/uneven/back/whatever, but I thought it that was silly. I would just not cut it and not worry about it, just enjoy the feeling of what's there, and forget about the growth, and a few years later see how long it is. Sure enough, the unevenness became less noticeable, eventually disappeared, and it now looks the way I've always wanted, without any cutting or modification, just the occasional cleaning.
But if you do cut, I look forward to seeing your growing out photos. :)
I'm gonna have to think about this one, but i'll still make my next update in march, incase i change my mind or something.

It is your choice and if you are feeling sick of it - I mean if your hair just makes you go 'bleecch!' - then what are you growing it for....
on the other hand....
You could ask a stylist to dye your hair as a match your natural hair colour -- it would be quite a bit more expensive than buying a bottle of dye at the local pharmacy, but probably worth it. As far as damaging it goes, tell the stylist that it is a concern of yours and ask what she can do to help avoid it. If you aren't dyeing every other week, I can't imagine it will make you hair turn to straw -- many women dye their hair every time they go to the hairdresser and they don't all have bad hair (though admittedly a few whom I know do).
Also, your hair has been kept in a perpetual akward stage because of your having cut it earlier. Just stay the course until you make a goal (say the hair your bangs reaches your shoulders after going over the ears) and don't give too much worry to day to day concerns about its appearance.

Hi Simon,
You have been making some great progress with your hair growth and the health of your hair has improved a lot since your trim last fall. As to the colour, why not follow Luckskind's suggestion during the period when your natural colour is returning, if you feel the colour is what is causing you to want to cut. Again, the decision to cut has to be yours and yours alone, make sure you do give it the month you said you would before making that decision. Also, if you could post an update before you decide, that would be great.
All the best,
David
It's perfectly normal to feel desires to change one's appearance now and then. Some of us feel it more when it comes to changing our hair than others; while others might feel more the urge to change clothes styles, or wish to gain or lose weight, etc. My thoughts on the subject is that as long as you're still having fun and/or exploring what you'd most like to do that pleases YOU, then by all means pursue your dreams of what makes you feel most like yourself in expressing your own individuality and identity.
I think your hair is looking very good, BTW, --- and since I'm now an old "geezer", I feel I've earned the right to be able to say this to you "younguns": grow it while you're young, son (I wish I did when I was your age - lol)!!

Hi Simon,
I think you are wise in waiting a month or so to see how you feel then. It's one limitation of having long hair, trying new styles has to be new but with length that you can't get rid of unless you do cut it. I feel like you do sometimes, especially in summer when im hot and having a hard time doing my hair. Hang in there and see how you feel another day, because I know that there are also a lot of days when having long hair makes us feel great.
